If Anakin had survived ROTJ, what do you think his fate would have been?

That's a good point. To anyone saying Vader doesn't deserve redemption... he was literally "forgiven" by the force.

 

He would have been executed beyond doubt. Luke's attempts of convincing the New Republic would be futile as even if he convinced the Republic's senators, leaders etc. about his father's redemption, Vader would still be a monster in the eyes of the public, and allowing him to live would be seen as a betrayal to the very foundation of the Republic. Not only was he near the top of the power structure of the Empire, but he also personally oversaw the destruction of Alderaan and the attempted destruction of Yavin 4.

 

He would have seriously changed his design to look less like the evil Darth Vader and more inconspicuous. He would hide away from the New Republic with Luke and help him build the New Jedi Order. His relationship with Leia would be rough but it would be mended over time. Then some angsty young Jedi who knows who Vader is will suicide-bomb him to Force Heaven.

 

He would've gotten a spiffy new white suit.

 

Exiled to Tatooine or executed would be my choices. Preferably exiled.

alright well if he was going to plan on surviving, what could we have done, to make sure, he'd have known, no one can kill a jedi, like, what like Quigonn figured out, says Yoda, but what, when he, told Anakin, that was true? for real?
I'd think, if he was alive, he'd want to kill Kylo Renn, and find his mother, probably before that, "You're from a desert, Anakin, you know darkness is evil, it's in your blood, shadow, never did any good for hiding from scorching agonies, and you certainly, don't use that to your, advantage, alright?" if he and Padmé hadn't gotten secret married, they'd have been accused of being secret related, which, they are, were? are. Lars sold her to the sand people because none of the kids around them, came near her, and they'd just break her into what she wanted to be, there among, so Anakin showed up, like some hero and she knew she couldn't do what she wanted, on Coruscant or something, and died...
So who stops chasing Anakin if Luke doesn't tell you he's dead and who doesn't stop chasing Padmé if she isn't said to be dead, at either call, for real? No secrets? No shadow?

Sadly Vader The White was accidentally killed by friendly fire from a Rebel who thought Vader was a stormtrooper.

 

He'd most likely go into exile.

 

He would set his sights on stopping even greater threats like Snoke. In secret though, with Luke helping him. He would also guide Luke in avoiding the old Jedi's mistakes. I'm sure Anakin's ghost did help Luke in this way too.

He would also reconnect with Leia. After that, his job is done and he would just willingly go into the Force as a ghost.

 

I can't imagine a universe where that happens really, the story needs him to die

 

He's probably going to be charged with multiple crimes against the New Republic, and definitely be executed.

I guess it depends, are we considering an Anakin who made the right choice before his son gave him a beat down? Or are we talking Anakin who's severely wounded?

Either case, we're looking at a Rebellion making a decision on him, assuming Luke doesn't whisk him away to be on the safe side. If the Rebellion does decide to whip up a quick trial for him, I don't know who'd volunteer to prosecute someone who can choke you out at a thought, much less who'd judge him. Would you really want to be on that jury? The guy could read minds and kill you over the phone or via Skype.

Beyond that, we'd be looking at plea bargains. Anakin would have a decent case of mind control and manipulation on the part of Palpatine. Beyond that there's the practical. The Rebellion didn't win the war at Endor, it was the victory that killed off the leadership and shifted the balance, but many lives would still be lost in the years of battle that would ensue. I can imagine Vader/Anakin being a great conduit to save lives on both sides by brokering a deal that ends the war without further blood shed since no one else would be in as good a place to take over the leadership of the Empire and hand over their surrender. Maybe a trade of peace for exile or something along those lines.

I don't think he'd take on a position of leadership within the New Republic, his personal life would be in shambles. I can see him hiding away on a remote planet somewhere, with possibly Luke as one of his only visitors. With his dependency on his tech, I can't imagine him having a long life living in isolation. I think he'd probably face many demons on his own, especially the temptation to turn back to the dark side. With so many mistakes made, and him hating himself for it, I think we'd probably see a very depressing story, something along the lines of what some of the more severe cases of veterans returning from war ashamed of some of the acts they committed.

Overall, I think it's better for him, Luke and the GFFA that he died on the 2nd DS. If he had survived, he probably would have been tracked down by haters, or people who wanted to get him back into the fray. He'd probably be forced to kill again and teeter perilously on the edge of the dark.
