I'm just saying Episode IX could be a Best Picture Nominee Theoretically speaking Black Panther has reopened the Doors for The Series to be Part of the Oscar Ceremony the last time Star Wars was part of the Oscar ceremony best picture was in 1977 when it lost to Annie Hall I also Think The Last Jedi shouldve gotten a Nomination for Best Picture along With Shape Of Water from a certain Point Of View

I have not cared about the academy awards since......never I guess. Return of the King already broke barriers down for the fantasy genre so I hope if they try to emulate a franchise I would much rather it be LOTR than Marvel. I am still skeptical that any move with as bad of a third act CGI (poorly at that) punching mess as Panther deserves to be in any sort of conversation. I think they are hoping Panther will keep their ratings out of the gutter.

That Black Panther was nominated in the first place is a farce in itself. Even further reason not to care about the Oscars.

I think if episode IX is decent enough it will could garner a nomination just as a way of honouring the franchise. However it will only be a token nomination to appeal to a larger demographic. To that point, even if it does get nominated, it wont win. It would have to be groundbreaking in the way it makes us look at the genre/film/the world. Maybe I could be wrong though. Don't get me wrong, I am looking so forward to this movie and I know it will be great, but in the bigger picture of awards and such, I think the academy is not interested in promoting or awarding a space opera an award like best picture.

Episode IX will win an oscar for its soundtrack, mainly because of John Williams. It's more of a honoring prize. But best picture? Never. It will get a nomination for its VFX. Will it win that though? I doubt that...

It won't because Black Panther wasn't nominated for being a good movie, and it's not, but because it carries a political message.

The only way EP IX gets nominated is to have an all-black cast who fights against threat from beyond which actually turns out is a gang of middle-aged white people. :D

The Black Panther nom, it being the final installment in the saga and the potential for there to be a weak field like this year may just be the perfect storm to increase the chances of a Best Picture nomination from 0.002% to 0.005%.

Yes, that's just the way I see it.

Black Panther has no acting nominations, no screenplay nominations, and what's most telling- it has no director nomination, imo Black Panther was nominated to prop up the ever declining Oscars ratings.

What if, and I'm just spitballing here, Black Panther was nominated because it's a damn fine movie?

I higly doubt it, as the only movie in the franchise that's been nominated for best picture is ANH. If TESB wasn't nominated for best picture, I don't think any future movie in the franchise ever will, no matter how good they turn out to be, unless there's a political reason behind it, which we all know it's the only reason Black Panther was nominated in the first place, so they would avoid another "Oscars so white" backlash and to increase their ratings. The Academy Awards are a joke now, I wouldn't put too much attention to it.
