He is full of fear and emotion, wishes to protect Rey. Grabs her hand etc... overly protective. He is like Anakin.

Possibly. But he has been trained as a soldier. Training is supposed to ground an individual to any set of respective roles, his being a soldier. Not that this cannot be a serious fault in the wrong individual, but I see him as a lion heart 'courageous' archetype.

I think it would undermine Finn's character if he switched to the Dark side, assuming he's force sensitive. (Which I do not think he is but who the hell knows.) Granted, a lot could happen in the next two episodes so we'll see.

Finn will absolutley not be force sensitive. I believe we are going to see a dynamic between Finn and Rey like with Luke and Leia. Remember the Star Wars movies follow the Joseph Campbell's Heroe's Journey structure. Rey will most likely become more distanced to Finn and the other characters during the movies. That being said, it is not entirely ruled out Finn is going to have somewhat of a effect on Rey's journey but I believe it will be minor. A perfect example is the scene in Return of the Jedi when Leia and Luke have the scene in the Ewok village disclosing the brother and sister relationship. Leia is tempting Luke to run away basically and not face Vader, that is a moment (pardon me but I forgot the exact terminology for the character description according to Campbell doing this) included in every Heroe's journey and somewhat important for the character relationship but not the entire story. I could see Finn potentially has a similar role but not as far as bringing redemption to Rey. I can absolutely see Rey has a lot of dark side in her, and they are going to use it in the second act which is always where the characters struggle in a story but remember we already have Kylo Ren fell for the dark side. So I believe it would overcharge the movie a lot if we had Kylo Ren having an internal battle between dark & light as his main theme, Rey struggling with the exact same and on top of that Finn who is force sensitive. I think that is very very unlikely, they could have done that if Finn was the main character - sort of like a Kyle Katarn but that would require him to be the lead.

you do realize he and rey are considered co-leads right? Not only does he share equal screen time but also has the biggest effect in moving the story. To think he would only play a minor part in her story is off base. Are you expecting the next movie to be all luke and rey?

Technically Harrison Ford as Han Solo is a co-lead as well in the OT, but the co-lead notion was only due to the strong characters, and as you mention screen time is a factor as well. You could make the same case with the Game of Thrones books where Jon Snow clearly follows the structure of the heroes journey while he shares the same attention as other characters. Those characters are the linchpin to the story as a hole and hold things together, the other characters are interchangeable- therefore Rey is absolutely the lead character period. I'm a 100% certain Episode 8 will go in a different direction than TFA. Remember Finn has to establish himself as his "own" character as well, there is much to do with him as a character away from his dynamics with Rey that were extremely forced in TFA. You had a rushed through script that told us who is connected with whom rather than showing it by good writing and directing. With Episode 8 there is a good chance they depart from that approach and give the single characters more room to breathe and establish themselves, which is usually what second acts are all about. And yes, I expect the next movie to center about Rey and Luke's dynamic and have Finn and Poe have their "adventures" separated from that, the screentime is absolutely secondary. The tie in with Rey and the rest of the crew won't happen before the third movie, maybe glimpse of it in the second act, but that's really it. You cannot have the characters stand on each other's feet all the time and have this grand epic of "and then happens and then and then and then and then"

Jon snow is tied to more than just aria, like luke us tied to more than just han.

Your idea suggest that the story is all rey. Yet she doesn't drive the narration. She is on a heroes journey but you can't say she is the only one.

Luke consumes the screen. If he is more than a teacher you don't care what rey can do you want to see what luke can do.

Rey and Finn needed to separate so they can both grow but to think she will get 70% screen time, and story focus is completely off base. You have a declared war, you have the KoR, you have snoke.

KK has said many times this is about the next generation. JJ and RJ have both said this is Rey and Finns tale not luke, leia or hans.

    He's the co-lead, so it's possible.

I like the idea of Finn going dark and having to be saved in IX by Rey as a cute little parallel to Finn obsessing over saving Rey in TFA .

Really hope Finn is revealed to be force sensitive since it would explain ALOT and probably help the writing overall of ep 7.

I really doubt Finn would go full on Dark Side. He's seen what the First Order does, and that's why he ran away. He's knows right from wrong. If he is Force sensitive and doesn't act according the the Jedi ways, he will at least be a grey Jedi, or Force user. Whichever term you prefer.
It simply does not make sense to write the character falling back into the evil he left, because we don't see much temptation for him go evil in TFA.

If anything, I think Finn would rather distance himself from both the FO and the Resistance and be like a bounty hunter of sorts, chipping away at the First Order as often as he can.

Why do you think Finn would leave the Resistance? We haven't seen anything that hints that what they are doing is morally ambiguous.

Not because of immorality, but because he never wanted to get caught up in the whole war anyway. He was afraid to fight the FO, but now that he's garnered the courage, he could possibly go away to "find himself" since he was programmed all his life. He might want to build some independence instead of being someone else's soldier. Also, Rey being gone to train could motivate him to become his own "man" so that when they inevitably meet again, he can stand his own and "protect" her.

Okay, I definitely see what you mean. I do think he would basically be fighting the same fight if does decide to do any hit and run skirmishes against the FO, so I don't see how fighting for the Resistance would be much different. I could see him being a commander or having some sort of authority, and that still gives him freedom to discover himself, but he still has a job and a goal to fight the evil he's witnessed.
I feel like because of his actions to rescue Rey in TFA shows that he is willing to do whatever is right, and working with the Resistance will actually allow him to discover himself.
