If Luke had listened to Leia's warning on back on Bespin

He'd still have a hand! Maybe a wife?! Couple of kids?! Also a better relationship with Ben!

 

He would never has escaped, Vader would've used the force to call him out of hiding, he could'nt have run from the past forever.

 

It could have simply ended for the Rebelion. Luke would have walked away leaving Vader unoccupied while Lando was planning Leia and Chewie's escape. Vader would have dealt with them personally which would probably mean a dead Lando and Chewie and maybe a princess alive but missing a limb or two. Having Leia as his captive, Vader would have Luke right where he wanted him as Luke would do whatever had to be done to save Leia. If by any chance Leia had been to bothersome for Vader on Bespin, Vader would have offed her too and once Luke found out he could have been filled with rage and sought revenge. That would have taken him to the Dark Side and he would have walked right into Palpatine's clutches.

 

Luke would have never found out Vader was his Father. He would have never tried to convert him to the light. He would have tried to fight Vader one on one, and would have been slaughtered. Or Vader would have told him he was his father in Rotj making him more vunerable to joining the darkside. Who knows.

 

Honestly, I wonder if Luke would really have been any better prepared to learn about his father being Vader after finishing Jedi training. Learning from Ben & Yoda's own mouths that they'd been lying to him all along for years was hardly likely to go down well in any case.

Also, Luke would probably still have a hand.

The real question is, though, what would've happened to the Rebels? If Luke hadn't shown up at Jabba's palace in ROTJ, the rescue mission would've been a failure, Han would never have been freed, and several of the key Alliance members (Leia, Lando, Chewie) might have been lost into the bargain. If Luke had stayed behind with Yoda to train, possibly for years, any attempt to rescue Han without him might have gone equally badly.

Lucas originally wanted Luke to take Yoda's lesson to heart and return to Dagobah to train at the end of ESB. However, Irvin Kershner convinced him that Yoda was wrong and that Luke should go back out to rescue Han, because it was the right thing to do, Jedi or no.

 

If luke had listened, he wouldn't have been going anywhere anyway, his xwing was captured, his father would've been in his mind the whole time through the force so he would've had to face him eventually. No denying the wait for the ''I am your father'' moment.

 

I don't think there's much Luke could have done with the information if he'd wanted to. As Grand Master Galen Marek pointed out, Luke had already put himself in the trap when he landed on Cloud City. Leia's warning was too little too late and probably didn't tell Luke much he didn't already know. She just said "It's a trap", when what she was really trying to say is that the trap was specifically for Luke and they had been the bait. That's the only information he didn't know, he knew Cloud City was a trap in general though. Not that it would have made much difference if she had said exactly what she meant. Luke couldn't just turn around and leave, nor would he just leave his friends like that and the novelization gives the impression that Luke had been determined to face off against Vader. He knew the route that was opening up for him was taking him to Vader and went willingly. But if he'd refused to go in he still would have been stuck on an Imperial controlled Cloud City. If he hadn't been keeping Vader occupied then Leia's group might not have gotten away as they did. And if they hadn't gotten away then Luke probably wouldn't have gotten away.

 

I have a better suggestion. What if it had been Admiral Akbar telling Luke,"It's a trap!" Would Luke have listened then?

 

He saw the trap unfold from here. I guess he still wouldn't have been convinced to leave.

 

Luke does something ... search the city? While Lando frees them and they try to save Han. Luke comes along and attempts to use the Force on Slave 1, remembering what Yoda told him. He actually brings it down and they battle Boba. They defeat/kill him and escape. Vader watches the Falcon leave. Vader calls to Luke, who is starting to develop his powers more. Because Han is freed early, Luke is not preoccupied and finishes his training with Yoda. Return of the Jedi takes place without having to free Han, leaving Jabba alive. Luke battles Vader aboard the Death Star but with his new training he does not go all-rage but still defeats him, refusing to kill him. The Emperor tickles Luke so Vader throws him off the edge. Han urges the Rebellion to help fight off the Hutt's since now the war's mostly over, so they kill Jabba and what-not. Essentially the same storyline.

 

Its possible Luke would have gone to Endor not knowing he was endangering the mission. Vader would have found him and the Rebel forces. Vader would have revealed himself to luke as his father. He would have given Luke an ultimatum to join him or watch his friends die. Then Vader would have probably turned over to the lightside. Or something. Yeah meybe same overall outcome.

 

Thus creating a plot hole regarding Luke's Jedi training. Thanks a lot, Mr. Kershner. And you too, Mr. Lucas.

 

I think with Leia in captivity, Vader would have the upper hand - it would simply delay the inevitable, but Vader would have the ultimate bargaining chip

 

I think the plot would more or less happen the same, just with an extra hand and one less knowledge of your dad.
