If TLJ disappointed you, what does JJ have to do in IX to get you back?

It literally says "It feels more like Marvel humor" At this point, I'm not even sure what you're trying to accomplish here. There is a very distinctive difference that you don't seem to be grasping so I'll just bow out of this conversation if you're going to cherry pick sentences out of context of my posts. If you aren't going to bother taking in the replies, no point in responding.

Hux is an over-the-top character. His speech on SKB is cartoonish. He is a bit buffoonish in that speech alone and in most of TLJ.

They absolutely are inferior. They never had control of the galaxy and still don't despite this destruction of the New Republic. Now, 9 could change a lot of this, but as of now, they are just as broken as the New Republic. Blowing up five planets doesn't make them superior. They have no control and no stability. The Empire reigned for 20 years unimpeded

HEY DUDES don't ruin celebration weekend! Let's all celebrate STAR WARS... who's the real buffoon?

My first viewing of TLJ, I was sitting while the credits were rolling pretending to listen to John Williams wonderful soundtrack, waiting for a post credit scene! Talk about MCU humor!!!:D Stan must laughing at me in heaven! I love you Stan, and I love you George!

Star Wars films needs to adopt post credit scenes... talk about MCU HUMOR...HAHA

The answer for me is simple, better, more satisfying resolution of the Rey and Snoke mystery boxes would fix things.

You realize you this thread for 'fans that were disappointed in TLJ....' so you don't need to scold us for following the topic when you obviously don't fit in that group.

Being an over-the-top villain and being a buffoon are 2 different things. That speech yielded thousands of Stromtroopers to essentially do the 'Heil Hitler', so I wouldn't say it was buffoonish as that showed respect or loyalty. TLJ made him look like an idiot, which you never see that once in TFA. Again, Rian Johnson changed things just fit his narrative not thinking about the big picture.

We just ended TLJ with the rebellion down to a dozen people left? The whole movie they are on the run and losing people by thousands and nobody came to help them either. And how do you know about The First Order control and stability as NONE of that is shown in the movie as everything you're saying is pure speculation and assumption.

There were references in the Plagueis novel and I can’t speak to those because I have not read it. However I’m pretty sure there is a reference in Tarkin as well

Maybe I need to reread it. I don’t remember that.

I know. I remember it vaguely because I was reading the Tarkin novel during the time when the Plagueis debate was at it’s highest on the Cantina leading up to TFA. The problem is the novel is so large trying to find it without rereading it is almost impossible.

I'm going to post here because as the fully formed adult I am today I overall really liked TLJ, but the nine year old boy in me was disappointed in a few things. Namely, I want to see Luke Skywalker back in action and not just a three minute Force Ghost moment. Whether that means he is interacting with the world like Yoda was able to or whether he is still alive, I don't care. Need more Luke to make this feel complete. Not that I think they can't make a great movie without this. It's just something that would make me ecstatic.

TLJ is a great movie - except Luke Skywalker. IMO, RJ got the character way wrong. I do have tremendous faith in JJ and this last one may very well be the best of them all.

Didn't like TLJ at all; thought it was all-around too bland. In fact, it's the only SW movie I haven't seen more than once (apart from that Clone Wars animated movie). Abrams really has nowhere to go but up, imo. The best way to approach Ep. 9 is to go in with no expectations. There hasn't been a Star Wars movie I refused to watch, so I'll still see Ep. 9.

I'm mostly hoping for fewer ill-placed gags than TLJ had (the ones that ruin the tone of a more serious scene for me), no filler scenes that make me want to skip them on repeat watches (Canto Bight for me), somehow making Luke Luke again without completely ignoring TLJ's Luke, meaningful and tactful inclusion of Leia, Rey not falling in love with Kylo, and some twist(s) that don't render the pre-TLJ mystery obsolete - and most of all a very satisfying end to the trilogy.

Then there are some things I would also love to see: more Finn and Rey; more Finn and Poe; Lando, Chewie, and Nien going on a ride in the Falcon; some epic battle scene involving the Knights of Ren; more 'established' alien species; a slightly bigger role for Artoo; and a little nod to fallen heroes.

That's quite an extensive wish-list, but really, if IX will be more like VII and far less like VIII, I'd be very happy.

Probably nothing, because JJ is directing it and TFA was a major disappointment. I don't think he's able to make anything that would satisfy my taste. I expect a flashy, but quite silly movie.

To answer the OP, a great Episode 9 teaser would be a step in the right direction. And that’s exactly what happened today! :)

The teaser is created to get people excited and may contain scenes that isnt in the final movie (TROS isnt completed yet) so i think you should stay calm and refuse to make any big conclusions about whats about to come. This is a very early stage.

You are very correct in that a Trailer has one goal and shouldn’t be taken as the law. But so far my gut feeling at each Disney Trailer has been right.

I loved TFA trailers and loved the movie. I was on the fence about R1 trailers and I liked the movie, but don’t love it. I NEVER felt good about the TLJ trailers as something felt off and I didn’t like it. I surprisingly liked the Solo trailers and enjoyed the movie.

I have faith in JJ simply cause I loved TFA. I would not have any faith if Rian Johnson were directing Episode 9.

I really liked that speech in E7. I thought it was presented/acted brilliantly because Gleeson pulls off megalomanical tyrant without being a cartoon villain. E7 Hux was a man to be feared. E8 Hux was a man to be laughed at.

Make a film with a decent story and relatable characters. Treat the source material with some respect and an awareness of what Star Wars means to fans. Leave off the excessive misfirings of comedy. Refrain from clumsy, preachy, and embarrassing social commentary. Some intrigue and mystery would be nice. Basically, just do the opposite of everything done in the last film. (Surely they've come to realize that Old Fossils are the ones that spend the most money on all this stuff.)
