If you could ask JJ one question and he had to answer, what would it be?

TROS will be here before you know it. As that day approaches we see tons of interviews leading up to the film. Most of the time it's the same boring questions. So I thought it would be fun to see what you guys would ask JJ Abrams about TROS, or any of the films really.

To add some fun to this, feel free to answer another members post as if YOU are JJ Abrams!

Question: Why do you think The Last Jedi has become such a polarizing film?

JJ Abrams: Well any time you make a film for such a passionate fan base, you're not going to please everyone. You have to just tell the story that you want to tell. Blah blah blah.

Make sense? Here goes my question.

Question: Have you watched any of the animated series like SW Rebels of The Clone Wars and have you read any of the Novels like Aftermath or Bloodline?

Is there anything you wish you could have done different in TFA now?

What is your greatest memory of Carrie Fisher on film or just hanging out?

To go of the script for a little bit, I'd ask why he thinks (and if he still does) Uncharted 2 is one of the best openings of any film, tv or game.

For context, due note this article is from 2015:

"Ah Nolan North, you sure are showing up in gaming news a lot lately–more than usual anyways. Just this week the voice actor famous for playing Nathan Drake in PlayStation’s Uncharted series not only revealed that EA and Visceral’s upcoming Star Wars game was both inspired by Uncharted and “along the same lines” as 1313, but also possibly spilled the beans that a sequel to The Last of Us was already in the works. So what’s Naughty Dog’s (and all of gaming to be honest) golden boy saying now? Well, according to him, J.J. Abrams is quite fond of the opening sequence of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

During an interview for the latest issue of OPM UK, North discussed one of the reasons the famed director hired him for a small role in Star Trek: Into Darkness was because he liked his performance in the second Uncharted game.

“We talked about Uncharted. It was the reason he put me in Star Trek Into Darkness—a little part (USS Vengeance bridge officer) just for fun—and he said the opening of Uncharted 2 was the best opening of a game, television show or movie he’s ever seen.”"

    https://archive.nerdist.com/j-j-abrams-says-uncharted-2s-intro-is-the-best-hes-ever-seen/

Also, if Drake's image from Uncharted 3's desert sequence was inspiration for Poe's desert look.

Sadly I'm sure you're correct. It should be required of all writers and directors! Know your source material!

Wow. Great observation. What a total rip off.

Apparently the spirit of Emperor Palpatine!

I would also ask...will TROS begin with Luke's hand floating through space? :D

That's not a rip off. That's called "making a homage to something you love".

I wouldn't ask anything about TROS because the movie comes out in six months. I would ask him for help or tips regarding movie making.

I agree. It would be tough for a writer to read/watch everything but it would be really easy to get a summary from the Story Group. Even if nothing is drawn from the other sources it gives the writers a better understanding of the SW Universe.

JJ: "Well, I think what we really wanted to do is tell a story that's satisfying, and one that really ties everything together. Because ultimately, we're not just closing this trilogy, we're closing a nine part saga. And to answer your question about the floating hand, I don't want to get into specifics, but I will say it's something we discussed when we made episode 7, and there are some old ideas that we revisited when making episode 9, but whether or not this is one of those ideas is something you will find out in December. I'll just say that IF we did it, we would try to do it with practical effects. A real hand, floating through real space."

Okay, so it doesn't actually answer anything, but this is pretty much how it would be answered if you asked him ;)

Why didn't you show Luke's completed Jedi Academy in Episode 7?

Why didn't you have the original 3 share one scene together before the death of Han?

JJ: I'm pretty sure that both of them are capable of winning a fight. It mainly depends on what species their opponent is.

JJ: It would take away focus from the new characters, it's not the story that I want to tell and you had that moment with the ROTJ ending. How could I possibly top that?

    That first one especially.

I would ask him how he could have possibly watched Force Awakens, and not said “we have to push this out six months. We have a complete remake here.”

The Luke ending is kind of cool if you don’t know how what RJ does in TLJ, but it seems a right hand/left hand miscommunication to me.

I thought most of Maz stuff really good, and that’s lake battle scene is amazing. The Poe Finn and Rey Fin stuff is good. And when afford is on, he blows everyone down then catches them before the end of the take.

I just remember him doing an interview about doing a remake (like ST into D), BEFORE, TFA was even locked down.

I honestly want to know what he’s thinking about 9 versus a what’s on the page.

The source material has always been the films, the other ancillary material is written or filmed around what Lucas, JJ, Rian and the other writers have come up with in the films.

I disagree, Han said: "He was training a new generation of Jedi. There was nobody else left to do it, so he took the burden on himself. Everything was going great, until... one boy, an apprentice, turned against him and destroyed it all. Luke felt responsible. He just...walked away from everything. Finn: Do you know what happened to him? Han: There were a lot of rumors. Stories. People who knew him best, think he went looking for the first Jedi temple." We can argue the details, but I don't it's that far off from what RJ gave TLJ.

With the exception of Rogue One, which included character cameos of The Ghost, Chopper, Hera Syndulla over the loudspeaker and Saw Guerrera himself. It’s not unprecedented to weave characters into the story. It would be nice if more writers and directors knew the source material better. Hell, Lucas added Dash Rendars ship the Outrider into ANH:SE from Shadows of The Empire. I believe Crimson Dawn was first mentioned in TCW.

So it’s not a rule, it a choice from directors that just don’t know enough to include stuff.
