B-Wing all the way. Airspeeder second, X-Wing third.

Man, honestly I'd fly any of them.

I'd love to fly a B-wing and hammer some capitol ships.

T-65 X-Wing all the way. I'm too old fashioned for anything else. Though I have to admit the B-Wings look like a killer ride.

I definitely sport my own A-Wing. Although X-Wings are my favorite, S
speed and accuracy in a small fighter is more my style. Theres no doubt i would customize it too.

I can tell you that I immensely enjoyed flying X-Wings in the old X-Wing series of games, as well as in Star Wars Galaxies, and even in the recent X-Wing game (which was a bit too arcade for my taste). I'm sure that if I were there IRL, I would want to fly an X-wing. If I were flying Imperial, it would be the Imperial Guard (red) TIE Interceptor.

I loved that old X-Wing series, I think TIE Fighter (the game not the ship) was my favorite though. And I felt the same way about the latest X-Wing game, I think I gave up after one mission. Not just out of dislike but I'm so used to playing good flight and space simulators that I couldn't adjust to the simplified controls. The Battlefront games had better flight simulation than that.

I chose X-Wing as well, both out of nostalgia and aesthetics but it's also the one I think I'd have the best chance surviving in. It's the best all around fighter and the baseline from which the other fighters make tradeoffs from. You can go faster in a flying deathtrap or you can fly a much more armored ship but lose so much speed and maneuverability that the extra armor isn't much consolation. Just takes them a little longer to pick you apart at their leisure.

Always keep in mind that it was all just a big ode to WW2 style aerial combat, and it wouldn't be like that at all in a real outer-space battle, as the futurists with the scientific chops tell us. Can we really be sure how it would actually look? Probably not like anything we've imagined, and we've imagined space warfare quite a bit.

Speaking of space warfare, my best friend and I will be breaking open a copy of Federation Commander, the streamlined version of Star Fleet Battles (based on the Star Trek 'Star Fleet Technical Manual' by Franz Josef, 1975) this coming Friday. I used to play SFB incessantly in high school. Goes way back. Closest thing to RTS in a boardgame by my experience.

Well I've been playing Elite Dangerous for years and it has pretty realistic space combat as far as physics are concerned. The ships don't behave like airplanes in space, you can full stop, or flip around real quick and boost the opposite direction to slow yourself and then boost off the other direction and you have maneuvering thrusters all over your ship which does all your yawing and so forth. Or you can fly backwards or just be a turret in space with no momentum but changing your attitude with thrusters.

As far as the Star Wars ships the main thing they get wrong is just not having thrusters to maneuver, you'd have to have thrusters in various spots on the surface of the ships to get around the way they do. Even gimballed engines wouldn't give them the turns they do outside of an atmosphere. Also the lasers are kind of iffy, firing off little bursts instead of a beam of light. Elite Dangerous threw in beam lasers though and space battles look cool/crazy in that game.

I used to play Elite Dangerous and ran a Federation Corvette with turretted beam lasers (not gimballed). That was good, did a lot of antipiracy and landing work. I found that the new addition to the game allowing me to walk around in bases was unreasonably difficult in which to advance. They did have a great deal of flexibility with modification.
