Iger reveals details about Solo movie

His born name is Rick Deckard. He spent years hunting droids masquerading as humans. When he realized the humanity in them he ran from his job as an Imperial Droid Hunter and became a smuggler, adopting the name of the last droid he was sent to kill, H4N-1

 

And then he hid out as an archaeology professor.

 

Now that Woody Harrelson has just revealed that his character Beckett is going to be both a criminal and mentor to HS, the idea of HS starting his own movie as a villain doesn't seem like a strange idea.

 

Ahhh, so that's why I thought he looked a lot like Han Gon Ginn.

Seriously, though- despite the fact that I wouldn't mind Rey having important parents, I really hope Han isn't made to be some already existing character's kid. I wouldn't mind him having a different name than Solo, since I always thought it was kind of silly how well his last name described him- but I can also understand how this is likely to be an extremely polarizing issue for a lot of fans.

If he did have to have another name, though- I don't know, it might be cool to draw something from Legends. Maybe he used to be a Rendar, or a Katarn?

 

Great news. I'm still pretty much worried about this standalone film. I hope its not Disney's first flop in terms of Star Wars films. I'm hoping for the best, and looking forward to it. But, do they have enough time in post to put together a good story let alone complete the VFX? I'm not going to believe its actually being released in May 25, 2018 until I see the first trailer, or when the marketing push starts in January/February of 2018. I still think it might be pushed to December 2018 for some reason, nothing concrete to base this on. Maybe I can't believe we're getting 2 SW films months apart. Wow I can't wait!

 

That is very interesting. It certainly would make more sense for freeing Chewie to winning the Millennium Falcon to be spaced out by a couple years. The whole earning his name thing is kind of weird though. Perhaps, he begins the film not knowing what his given name is and eventually he discovers it over the first part of the movie. Or it could mean that he makes a name for himself as a smuggler by making the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs.

 

This is definitely how I'm taking it, but I'd love to get his exact quote so we can get the context.

(I don't want to sit through that whole interview, though. )

 

I'm surprised that Iger said as much as he did about what is in the movie this early on. It doesn't seem like they are being as tight lipped with the anthology films. TLJ is very hush hush, but we knew a lot about R1 before it came out and it seems like they are not being too shy about letting details of HS out.
