IMDB TLJ Ratings Demographics give me hope

I'm almost 40 and would give TLJ 9 or 10 if I had a login at imdb.

Edit: Just logged in with facebook and gave it a 10. Didn't do much for the average score though.

 

I'm 47 and I give it a generous 4/10.

 

but most of these 30-50 years old have kids and families, so the younger generation.

 

Once again it's kids who don't know any better.

Young fools.

 

I haven't voted. And I'm unlikely to. If I did though, it would probably be a 2/10 (maybe a 3/10).

 

I am a IMDB member for 13 years. There are a lot of trolls there, of course. Most of the movies that I consider masterpieces have a low ranking in IMDB. But I like the site anyways.
TLJ for me is a masterpiece, and I have a lot of reasons why this movie its so great. I gave 10 stars.

As one of those people, you are absolutely correct. A lot of people in this age range are enjoying the movies based on the additional influence that their kids enjoy it. I enjoyed it as a movie and was delighted that my kids did too, but I can see how youngling might affect the perspective of these moviegoers. The other thing to consider is that this shows that the target audience for these movies seems to be younger fans and their parents. There seems to be less for fans of the OT to enjoy although I put a lot of this down to the fact that a lot of people HATED how Luke was portrayed.

 

That's not a bad spread of ratings by any margin.
Tossing the <18 crowd and focusing on the adult audiance, the 18-29ers who rated 5 or less is 7% of the total voters, 30-44 of the same category is 9%, and 44+ of the same category is 2%.
Combined, all of these ages (not counting the under 18 age) represent 18% of the total votes.

So (rounding up) roughly 20% of ~185,000 people voted 1-5 (unfavorable).

That's not a bad collection of ratings.
It's also not much of an age correlation because the two largest age brackets of reviewers is 18-29 and 30-44, constituting 89% of the total voter population; or, 165.5 thousand voters.
Of that volume, which is comprised of both millennials and x-geners, 16% gave it a 1-5 rating, and within their own bracket (as listed previously), they each carried less than 10% of their respective age bracket voting pool.

So there's definitely no strong correlation to the idea of age accounting for favor or disfavor in these ratings.
It's quite simply that of voters polled, a less than majority share voted 1-5 (unfavorable) for TLJ. 82% of the 18 to 44 range voted the film 6-10.
Within the 18-29, 84% gave it a rating of 6-10, and 80% of the 30-44 bracket did the same, so the same pattern imerges on the positive side.

In fact, they are almost identical results across both categories with the sharpest changed being a 26% decrease in voters rating 10, and a 30% and 60% increase in voters rating 3 and 2 respectively.
That's essentially the same opinion results across age demographics with these categories.


Whatever the trend is in reasons for disagreement over people liking and not liking this film, age isn't one of the causes for the differences in taste between the two largest voting demographics at IMDB.
