In what form will Palpatine return?

Maybe it will be left ambiguous, like we won't know whether he's physical or spirit. Something between, like Yoda in The Last Jedi.

Places strong in light/dark side energy may allow spirits to become more physical.

 

Don't know, but I am eager to find out in any event. I suspect that what has been posted at MSW will ultimately prove correct. That is to say that Darth Sidious returns spirit intact but no physical form and seeking to obtain a physical body to possess/inhabit.

It harkens back to the partial story he used to seduce Anakin to the dark side. We will see just to what extent the dark side truly is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

I think that would fit while leaving the prophecy and Anakin's sacrifice intact.

 

The form of the destroyer:

 

Isn't it confirmed in the Aftermaths trilogy that he has seen many possible futures, but considered the one where he dies less probable but prepared for it nonetheless.
I'm not sure where my books are right now, but maybe I should read them again before December.

 

He will be reincarnated as one of @Meister Yoda (s) species.ironic.

 

I'm thinking they will take a page from Harry Potter and bring him back in a way similar to how Voldemort returned. The manner in which he returns could be somehow tied to Darth Plageuis' teachings. I would love there to be a Darth Plageuis reference in the movie.

After ROTS, everything about the Emperor has bugged me.... especially with the way that Palpatine introduced Darth Plagueis. Fifteen years later.... the idea that an Ancient Fear moves through the Star Wars SAGA; by body hopping, is intoxicating. Palpatine and Snoke seem like the same kind of puppet now.... I know I shouldn't, but I want more.



I've set myself up to live in Mehville with all of this, but it does not concern me.... I've been drunk on Plagueis since the PT.

 

I voted for other.
I believe that the plot point may in fact be to avoid his return.
Or something that he has left behind or that he has done in his lifetime that just like a wound still effects the correct events.

In short, I am not sure at all that we’re going to see him if not in a flashback/vision scene.

Recored holographic messages. They go back to the Death Star to find the recordings because they're looking for something from that timeframe. Now... perhaps something happens there and some Dark Force spirit takes someone over or someone is there watching over the database/library... they could. be "possessed" or someone gets corrupted there. Also could appear in a force vision/flashback.

I don't want a physical return of the Emperor because it kind of defeats the whole sacrifice of Anakin in ROTJ.

 

If Palpatine returns in the flesh and there is no appearance by or, even a mention of Anakin Skywalker..... how will THAT make you feel?

 

I'd like to see him appear in multiple forms.

• I'm still a fan of the Death Star being haunted by the residual darkness of the Emperor and for this darkness to be poisoning the surrounding planet
• I think we may run across one of Palpatine's sentinel droids along the way or at least the brain of one of those droids and that could be what C3PO is experiencing when his eyes turn red.
• And finally, I think we will encounter the reborn physical Sidious (Matt Smith) in a bacta tank in the hidden Sith ISD fleet

 

I'm becoming more and more convinced he's back physically if not possessing someone

 

In canon Yoda and Qui-Gon learned the secret of immortality in the Spring of Life in the Clone Wars that was the nexus for the light, likewise I think the dark, primordial energy Palpatine sensed in Aftermath is his version of that and he learned how to cheat death in that (if Palpatine is physically around). Gallius Rex knew the Emperor had a plan and would possibly return

 

Just putting it out there, there was a CLONE war. Kylo and Hux argued over the use of CLONE troopers. While we may not get a direct clone of Palps, i.e. a character played Ian Mc, I do believe that cloning tech is gonna be involved. :cough: Rey :cough: I think more story telling groundwork has been done for clones than possession.

Then again the Witches of Dathomir totally did dark side possession in Rebels...

I’m so freaking excited to learn either way!

 

I like the idea of Palpatine surviving ROTJ and now he is crippled and part machine but more evil and sinister than ever .

It's impossible to create a Force-sensitive clone in current SW Canon, so the only option available for Palpatine's return that would require Ian to play the character is, to be perfectly honest, the "he never actually died" route, which is more explainable than I think people realize given the existence of Dark Side Magic and the fact that other Sith have already previously survived things that should have killed them.

Also, before anyone goes there, no, Palpatine surviving doesn't cheapen Anakin's sacrifice because the fact that he turned his back on the Dark Side in order to save his son remains true regardless of whether that act also destroyed the galaxy's greatest evil.

 

I was thinking about a plot thread that could span all nine films. Basically you confirm that palpatine created Anakin and ever since then has been using some kind of dark side power to corrupt the family. Not a total cloud over them 24/7 but in crucial moments has been influencing their actions by filling them with the dark side to gain control over his creation. You then mitigate a lot of the bad things Anakin/Luke and Kylo did and create a focus on one person or creature that needs to be destroyed to wrap up this story for good.

I was thinking about this when i remembered Leia's description of being pregnant with Ben, basically feeling like a ball of light that occasionally flashes dark, that could be what palpatine has been doing to all of them since the start. It explains where Anakin's visions came from, why he goes against his instincts and feels immediate regret after Palpatine tells him to do something ie kill Dooku or Mace Windu, why Luke still struggles with the dark side, why he reacted the way he did in Ben's hut, why Kylo is constantly fighting against his pull to the light. Thinking back a lot of character actions could be explained, mitigated and made sense of by having Palpatine corrupting them.

You need a reason why this story ends for good in this episode. There will always be wars and dark force users popping up in the galaxy, reasons for the jedi and Skywalkers to join a fight etc, Snokes rising up etc You need a reason to close this out and retroactively redeem Ben and Anakin, this seems like the best way to do it. Have Palpatine reveal it in the movie, then after they take him out for good it puts a stop to the evil corrupting the Skywalkers.
