In what form will Palpatine return?

It just occurred to me how Palpatine survived being thrown down the shaft. The shaft goes straight through the Death Star and exactly opposite to the tower and thrown room that he fell from is another thrown room! He built up enough velocity that he just went up the shaft on the other side and landed in his other thrown. He then jumped into an escape pod a la Space Balls and went into hiding. He foresaw that the DS2 was going to be destroyed and that Luke and Vader together would be too much for him so he chillaxes for a while while the galaxy sorts itself out. He goes fishing and enjoys a bunch of sunrises and sunsets and then brushes off his plan to take over the galaxy again, fully refreshed, after he feels through the force that Luke is dead. Don't want that jerk messing everything up a second time.

 

Watched ROTJ (the first time since learning the Emperor was returning in TROS). I’m starting to get cold feet now about his return as he is PERFECT in this movie. I just don’t know how you bring him back without diminishing ROTJ?

This has been my greatest concern.

Basically, that's where I'm at.... how do the Sequels end up making sense within the SAGA.


In 1985 if someone told me this ST outline:

- I would have laughed in their face. The first three, I've learned to deal with.... its the last one that I can't get over. Father Skywalker matters. To me at least.

 

I just hope they find a meaningful way to intergrate him in the current story. The details of how he returns (ghost, spirit, droid with his consciousness, force vision, whaterver), it doesn't really matter that much to me at this point. But regardless of the form, he needs to have a purpose for the story. That's my main concern.

 

My bet, the Emperor will return in Snoke's form. Heads will explode in theaters all over the world.

Agreed. I believe he's in some kind of mech-suit in the trailer.

 

And it still does. He still saves his son. At that point on ROTJ the Death Star is going to be destroyed with potentially Vader, Luke and Palpatine all in it. Vader's act allows Luke to escape and with or without Palpatine dying the Empire is defeated. Yes the Emperor and his evil schemes carry on, just not in power for 30 years. Even now the First Order does not have near the control that the Emperor had over the galaxy.

 

Flashback. All other ways would be lame. He died in ROTJ. To bring him back alive makes no sense.

 

I agree that it would be lame to bring him back from the dead (or he survived DS2 explosion). But how do you incorporate a flashback of Palpatine that is relevant to the TROS plot that deals with Rey and Kylo Ren?

While I would totally geek out again to see Palps alive and well on the silver screen....he's only coming back either as a recorded holocron or flashback.

TROS poster shows the Emperor as his disfigured (post Mace Windu) self. Palps would have looked like Senator/Chancellor Palpatine has he had been resurrected or cloned. Palpatine would also look like his old self as a force ghost since Anakin appeared whole and not disfigured at the end of ROTJ,

I get that he would look like his "pre-lightingface" self if it was a clone (which I don't think it is), but couldn't he still have his ROTJ look if he was resurrected? The last option is that he never died, like Maul survived TPM. Then he would also look the same, maybe older and weaker. I don't think physical Palpatine is completely ruled out yet.

 

I suspect we are going to get Palpatine in the flesh.

 

Or trying to return in the flesh. To have him simply survive the explosion isnt good. For his essence to be embedded in something and he slowly working to bring himself back and that concludes in TROS is what I want to see.

 

Not dying would mean he's be pushing 120 years old during TROS.
Dunno about the resurrecting his body either b/c the DS2 did blow up with him on it.

Question is.. who's flesh? I can see the resemblance of Matt Smith and a younger Palpatine.

 

My guess is that we will see a Voldemort-Sauron like Palpatine. He will probably be significanlty weak in his first scenes, maybe mechanicaly supported as seen in the trailer... His voice also sounds weak and slow in the trailers...

Probably his goal will be to find his old strength and maybe Kylo Ren or Rey or both will have something to do with it...

Now, about the two main arguments on him returning... The first I think is that Vader's sacrifice goes in vain.. It doesn't... Vader saved Luke and brought balance to the Force... But bringing balace to the Force and whatever that means wouldn't last forever in such a vast galaxy. New evil arises all the time...

The second argument is how did he manage to stay alive. I believe that if we indeed see him in flesh, we will get some form of proper explanation. But what I would like to say is that George Lucas created the OT without much thought on future projects. Three films and that's it... Even in the prequels made by himself, some of choices are questionable as to whether they stay true to the OT, for example having Qui Gon as Obi Wan's Master, when he says that he was trained by Yoda and doesn't mention him at all in the OT and having Padme die right after giving birth, when Leia tells Luke that she remembers her mother...

There are so many ways that Palpatine could have stayed alive, in fact, some of them are used in Legends comics and fans accept and even love them... I can't undestand how this is a problem now that Disney attempts it...
