Influence over Kylo Ren

Discussion in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' started by KyloRen1981, Jan 15, 2020.

?

How much control does Palps/Snoke have over Ben?

  1. Complete control. Kylo Ren is basically a puppet for Palps/Snoke.

  2. Augmented persuasion. Palps/Snoke speaks to Ben and there is some force mind trick going on.

I don't know if we still need to use Spoiler tags for threads now that the film has been out almost a month, but I figured better safe than sorry. Anyway...

I'm curious what people think the level of control over Ben Solo was. Please vote your choice!

What do you mean? They way he was written or do you mean his own actions vs influence from others?

Palpatine had zero control over Kylo Ren, he was in control of his actions the whole time.

He was commanded to execute Rey, yet despite locating her a few times, continually defied those orders. Ren sought to turn Rey to the dark side, kill the Emperor, and rule alongside her.
Palpatine even inquires as to why Ren is taking so long, and threatens to turn his fleet against the First Order if he's planning on betraying him at one point during the film.

Now that's what I would of loved to c. Kylo Ren orders the FO to fight the Final Order. Then the FO & Resistance sign a peace deal. Oh well. We just get ROTJ 2.0 again.

I think Kylo's "uncontrolled" saber was the visual answer (in addition to what the narrative conveys, which I would agree with Gingerbyte on that regard) - there was no controlling him. It was a wild energy always conveying the sense that at any moment there could be an uncontrolled explosion at hand.
