To me is seems that Kylo Ren is the pivotal character in the Sequel Trilogy.

The story might be told from Rey's point of view and Kylo might not get all that much screen time, but the OT wasn't told from Vader's point of view and he didn't get the majority of the screen time either, yet it's hard to argue that Vader wasn't pivotal in the OT.

Anyway, children are first in line to inherit their parents' possessions. If Ben Solo had made different choices then the Millennium Falcon would be his ship and Chewbacca would be his copilot. Luke's final teachings would have been directed to him. The old Jedi books would be his. Vader's lightsaber would be his. He would have experienced Han and Leia's love for him.

Instead Rey ended up with the Falcon. Chewbacca is her copilot. She received Luke's final lessons. She's holding the ancient Jedi texts and Darth Vader's lightsaber - er, at least what's left of it. And Han and Leia's last parental affection went to Rey.

    Rey Nobody.

    Rey Random.

Rey "the girl I've heard so much about".

Kylo Ren ended up Supreme Leader of the FIrst Order. He let go of his past, all right, and of everything he might have inherited. But there's an emotional yank on his chain every time he sees the Falcon or his grandfather's lightsaber. He hasn't let go of the past in his heart. It still hurts.

And I doubt sitting in Snoke's old throne room is going to ease his pain.

If the PT was about ancient prophecies and bloodlines of destiny then the ST is about the choices people make. What choices will Kylo Ren make?

He thinks he let go of his past, but he was never more entrenched in it. Father's murder split him to the bone, his uncle promised him to never leave him and, as you say, everything he considers his is now with 'nobody' who refused him and who he swore to destroy.

As I said in another thread, the possibility of Renperor becomes stronger the more I think about it. If the Dark Side is known for anything, it's that exorcises anything that can supplant it. Anakin lost everything when he became Vader - his wife, his friends, his beliefs. Kylo was never more alone than he is now. He had two chances for redemption and he refused them - one when he wasn't under the control of Snoke anymore. I can see him going deeper in the dark, as he believes that is his only option and making all the wrong choices again.

Yet, while Leia says her son is no more (Han's death hurt her badly), she left those dice for him. Luke said that no one is ever truly gone and promised to see him around. He has/had Force connection with Rey. There is a sliver of chance for him, but he will have to take it and I am not sure that he is strong enough to do it.

I would like to add that Rey saw Han as a substitute Father and maybe Leia sees Rey as the daughter she never had. Also, we should not forget that Leia was adopted and never really accepted that she was Vader's daughter : she is Leia Organa first and foremost. Leia understands perfectly how bloodlines are not that important.

My point is the following : Luke is right, Ben Solo is not completely gone, because once you stack all the elements we are discussing here, Ben Solo is somehow alive.

    Because Rey is Ben Solo.

    I agree.

I suggested in a couple of other threads that, in IX, I think it's possible Kylo Ren will not find being "Supreme Leader" is truly "supreme" for him.

Leading a military organization -- a highly dysfunctional and incompetently run one at that -- seems to be more something for a Hux-level character than for Kylo Ren.

This is why I suggested he could very well leave the First Order and go on his own quest to rule the galaxy as he might have imagined Vader would have, right from Vader's castle on Mustafar perhaps, declaring himself Emperor/King of the galaxy.

From there he could simply use the Dark Side of the Force to subjugate anyone or any civilization failing to bow to his wishes and accepting his rule.

This would, in a way, make him an Emperor beyond Sidious-level proportions. Sidious needed the Death Star and entire Empire to exert rule over the galaxy. Kylo could do this on his own, without the First Order.

This would also put the First Order in a very interesting situation and might even compel them to have to work with the Resistence / Rebellion to counter Kylo's powers.

At the very least it would set up a new conflict / final battle along a higher plane of thought.

And, of course, this would elevate Rey's importance as possibly the only person who could either get through to him, confront him, or convince him to change (along with some well-timed help from Luke Skywalker).
