Early days yet. I haven't looked at many polls to be honest, certainly not on the cantina. I watched a tonne of reviews by the public on youtube and it would seem there is a lot of hate on there so I'm seeing what its like on the cantina. Maybe I'm more in the minority than I previously thought?

I watched movies of all of them and what I watched was mediocre. Except Adams for the first Star Trek.

There are plenty of people upset by it. Time will tell how it goes from here. Response to the PT was extreme but the fact they were the product of the original creator goes a long way. If TLJ is a light speed jump too far it will be far easier for fans to say Disney failed to capture SW.

The way I feel, Whether you love or hate the ST or TLJ, we have come this far. Are you really not going to watch the final one if you have seen the first 2.... even if you wait for a rental? .... I will be there.

Glad you enjoyed it. I only put this thread and poll up a short while ago and already it's looking like a complete travesty for people like me LOL. I'm racking my brains as to why so many people seem to be enjoying but I won't scoff at that. I think it's great that so many people are enjoying Star Wars. I just can't share the same enthusiasm for it, I really wish I could. Thanks for participating on my thread.

It's a good question and while I give all the tough talk because I'm feeling very raw from the spanking Rian gave me a few days ago (excuse the awful analogy) who knows the marketing and exciting trailers might yet again entice me back but I'd really like to say no and right now I really have no desire to. I think what is more likely is that I'll wait a week or two for the youtube non spoiler reviews and then make my mind up. But goddamn you Disney and Lucasfilm I'm so mad right now I can't tell you! Thank you for participating on my thread.

Lol... well we have two years to wait. That bum may be a little less sore by then and may have an eagerness you didn't think would be there. JJ is directing. It may be a safe wrap up or... you may need to turn the other cheek. I think it will be ok though, all the legacy characters are gone. I don't see as much shock and awe from it.. but I could be wrong.

Same here. I saw it in August 1977 (I was 2 months away from turning 7). I am, like you, happy with this golden age. I remember the dark days of the mid 80s when there was NOTHING and No Hope of anything else ever coming out. I've seen it twice, and will see it again tomorrow and again sometime later this week. I also am looking forward to Solo and IX.

I like what you did there with the turn the other cheek metaphor :) nice. I wish I shared your optimism. I mean I know Lucas made some stuff up as he went along with the original trilogy but Abrams and Johnson have taken that to whole new level. It seems clear to me JJ put a load of stuff out there with no idea how those questions were going to be answered and what Johnson did was simply not answer them at all and just threw up more... I don't think it was questions, I think he just threw up. Snoke seems out of the picture but who knows with more of those plot twists? Kylo is now the supreme leader and I guess he yet again has something to prove since Luke made him look like a complete idiot. Rey after two movies is still a blank canvas. Finn and Rose are possibly starting a romance that came out of nowhere but I couldn't care less. Poe learnt a lesson that being a hotheaded hero (which is what makes him a great character, we need those) isn't always the best solution, sometimes you need to run away from a fight. So yeah episode 9, can't wait!

I think there was bigger risk of people not spending money on Star Wars when Disney initially bought the franchise. Disney played it smart with The Force Awakens and kept most Star Wars fans even though Disney was very contrary to Lucas's initial vision and represents some of the resistance he faced trying to make A New Hope.

I see Star Wars movies multiple times in theaters. My like or dislike of a movie will impact how many times I plan see it and the next movie.

I immensely disliked Episode 2. But as much as I disliked it, I knew walking out of the theater that I would see Episode 3 no matter what. I was optimistic Episode 3 would be better and good. Plus I was already committed to see the Prequel Trilogy's conclusion even though we knew how it would end. I only saw Episode 2 two times in the theaters. I like Episode 1 more and saw it four times. I only planned t see Ep 3 once, but after liking it saw it two more times.

For me Episode 8 is similar. I liked Episode 7 so I planned to see it twice. (Opening night 3D was broken so saw it a 3rd time in 3D for free.)
I knew I would buy tickets for Episode 9 regardless if I loved it or not. Episode 8 is my least favorite movie but I'm optimistic Episode 9 will be better. Plus I'm committed to see how the Sequel Trilogy ends. I only plan to see Episode 9 once or twice.

I will not see Solo in theaters (I think the re-cast Solo is a poor choice), but I decided that long before Episode 8 came out.

I'm at a no right now for ep 9.

I can't say it's a hard no though. For the first time I'll probably wait for fan reviews and spoilers to decide if I'm going to watch it, not so much because I care what others think, but because I don't want to walk in full of enthusiasm like I did this time and walk out angry I spent 50+ on something that did not only leave me unsatisfied, but upset. The upset is going away and the disenchanted is taking it's place. It's almost like I'm going numb from the experience. What makes it easier is that my son has never been a big SW fan, so he won't be begging to go watch the next one.

I'm curious about the spin offs, and a little more open and optimistic about them. That said, as far as I'm concerned, Disney has a short leash to work with now.

Even as I write this I am coming to terms with many parts of the ST that has me upset, so he knows, 2 years is a while. I just feel the trilogy kind of ended in 8 with Luke's death, Snoke's death, there just doesn't seem to be the tension that ESB had. Kylo is obviously inferior to Rey, so ep 9 seems more like a dénouement than worth a full movie.

About the feminism angle. I'm not sold but I'm not disagreeing either. Rey maybe isn't a Mary Sue, but she's not far off. Leia Poppins seems to me as an active attempt to make a female character "uniquely powerful" with a "cool" moment. I wanted to see Leia kick ass with the Force, after TFA and she was a general, I thought they'd go on the angle that she uses the force as a leadership, command type power, improving coordination of her fleet and the performance of those around her. Maybe even show off a lightsaber, but admit to Luke or Rey that that isn't her forte. (if you liked it or are okay with it, all power to you, this isn't an attack, simply my take)

I guess it comes down to perception, but from the fans I've spoken to, a lot of them feel they've jumped the shark on this one. Maybe time and back story will remedy some of the issues. Time will tell.

Admittedly, I am surprised at the "Mad Lib" style story writing they are doing where one starts the story and the next just adds to it. I know they say they didn't have any arc planned. But JJ wrote the first one, he was a producer on VIII and I'm sure he knew the direction of VIII and what RJ was doing. Im sure they do have a plan of the overall arc. He has already submitted his story line for IX. RJ surprised us. Im confident JJ will to with the wrap up. After all, it seems loosely based in the direction that GL had pitched.

Someone that was there when it all started, that's great! I was born in 1977 so I got into Star Wars when I was five. I'd already seen Star Wars and Empire on VHS and I did get to see Return Of The Jedi when it was first released. I had all the toys. Wonderful memories. Well for someone who was there from day one so to speak and you love what they are doing now I have to respect you for that. That's brilliant, bless you! Thanks for participating on my thread.

Even though I hated TLJ, I will still watch IX, just to see how the trilogy ends. Maybe the next movie will have a better pacing (TFA-like), a rather entertaining plot and less anticlimactic cringeworthy humor. The sequel trilogy story may be ruined for me, but episode IX might still be a fun popcorn movie to watch. As for the Disney, I still have faith in Disney Star Wars. I think Gareth Edwards delivered a great Disney Star Wars movie, and Solo and a probable Kenobi movie have a chance of becoming a good addition to the Saga. I'm not particularly hyped for Solo and I don't really see a point in making a solo Han Solo "Solo" (lol) movie but a Kenobi film starring Ewan McGregor would be a must-watch for me. I no longer anticipate any future 'episodes' as the sequel trilogy made me really disappointed, but I'd like to watch some more non-episodic films that would expand the lore further. And maybe some Coruscant-based tv show, too. I think it'd be cool.

I'm undecided on Ep.9. I can't say I was insulted by TLJ, just let down and bit bored by the whole thing. I'll read the leaks in about two years then decide. If they sound as bad as the ones for TLJ (which were all true) then I may skip the theatre and Amazon fire stick Episode 9!

Hey! We're the same age. You sound like me, except my parents took me to see Empire in the theater haha. And I still remember it!!

And now my heart hurts that my fellow 1977 brother didn't like it. Sincerely. That sucks, man. I'm sorry. I really am. I loved it, but I know many others didn't. I wish there was some magic wand I could wave so everyone could enjoy it. It's posts like yours that make me wish, despite how much I loved the direction they took, that the film wasn't so devisive so fans could all enjoy something together. A pipe dream, I know, but I do wish it was like that.

Here's hoping you love 9. Cheers.
