Reading the minute amount about the new game coming out got me thinking. I played KOTR and SWOTR and enjoyed both immensely, and have always been a fan of MMO's/RPGs. What if we had another SWOTR style Character Building game, just based in a different Era? Would you guys pick it up? Would you want the different styles currently offered or maybe something crazy different like Skyrim style Star Wars where you could literally be anything?

Just some thoughts and hopes (which are too high for something like this).

Mass Effect Andromeda, but with Star Wars/ a good story/ and more planets would be amazing.

I've been thinking about it a lot lately.

I'd agree that I liked it quite a bit. Even the story starts out really strong, though I'd argue it fizzles out not long after that and rarely regains its momentum.

That's the problem with a LOT of open world games right now, though. Balancing scope with gameplay and then adding in the element of natural exploration is something few game developers have done yet.

For instance, there are like 5-6 explorable planets in Andromeda, and they're all really well done. To do even a decent amount of quests, though, you'll need to behive your way between them all dozens of times. Like, there's not really a great way to be economical about how you complete quests.

To me, that really hampers the sense of exploration, especially compared to something like Dragon Age Origins or the original Mass Effect. Sure, there's some backtracking, but far less. It just feels more like a journey, and less like a series of errands.

    So anyway...

If we got a Star Wars game, I'd love for players to have more agency on how they explore, as opposed to being constantly forced to backtrack. Think about something like the prequels- you have the "hub world" of Coruscant, the tutorial area of Naboo that is revisited a few times, and a fan favorite location of Tatooine that gets a couple of missions. Otherwise, places really aren't constantly revisited.

edit: And to be honest, the sense of narrative flow actually could even work better without a hub world. Think Lord of the Rings, or even the Original Trilogy. The Alliance was always on the move.

RDR2 kind of does this by making you uproot camp and move elsewhere often, bring missions to other parts of the map, and I think it's helped immensely with the problem of narrative flow in huge games like it. You're still free to explore, but the story feels less like a jumbled mess, even with its pretty impressive length and scope.
