Is anyone actually hyped for this movie?

Lando was my motivation for even thinking about this movie, but apparently he isn't even in it long enough to keep my attention.

    Meanwhile in the fandom...

Actually, in the original draft of Star Wars, Han Solo had a girlfriend that was described as a cross between a brown bear and a guinea pig. There's lots of moments of interspecies flirting in the Star Wars series, so it's nothing new really.

This pains me to say, but this is the first SW movie I won't see in cinemas. The first movie I'm not hyped for, the first movie I don't care about at all. This apathy is soul crushing. Heart-wrenching. But after TLJ I just don't care. I don't wanna hate or love, I wanna ignore it. Just like with the Marvel movies. I don't even care if I get spoiled - and I totally will.

I don't even know why I'm on this forum. I love the forum, but am I a fan anymore? Of the old stuff, yes, but does anyone discuss the old stuff?

I envy you, who can still care for the new SW. God I'm melodramatic.

I'm happy you expressed this... asking yourself if you are still a Star Wars Fan( and yes there are forums for the old classic stuff go enjoy that i do every so often). I applaud you for being truthful other than whining like so-called star wars fans just sit here and spur hate. If you don't like TLJ thats fine maybe its over for you move along be an adult and let those that still enjoy it have fun and relive their childhoods over and over again. Bring on SOLO. I DON'T CARE WHAT HAPPENED BEHIND THE SCENES I'M READY TO SEE AND ENJOY THIS NEW STAR WARS FILM.

I was hyped for TLJ. Beyond hyped. Reading over the critics reviews, has confirmed what I thought beforehand about Solo. A fun ride. A popcorn flick. But nothing to be takin too seriously, or get too hyped about.

EP. 9, the countdown is on..

I wonder why Lucas' films never felt like popcorn movies to me? Even when little, I saw something more. A commentary. A different world. A myth. I don't know. Something big. Not a flick.

I think the sheer number of new numbers is destroying the importance, the weight. Every new movie pushed the boundaries of cinema, of special effects, of CGI. 'member when episodes were an event?

There's too much 12 and under books.

Then there was this Lost Stars (labelled as YA) -- A great book, but probably did more terrible damage than anything else to the Universe of PT & OT SW in my eyes.
I feel terrible for feeling for someone who serves evil.

Here's the thing. When the OT came out, is was what you might call the Age of craftsmen - everything was new, unique and "special": Aliens, Predator, Back to the Future, Robocop, etc. Now it's the Age of assembly lines - too much of everything is being made, so nothing is going to be "special" anymore. So, the question is - do you want more assembly line-produced Star Wars? Because it's the only kind of anything that is going to be made. I certainly want more. Do you?

Solo books for all ages: 3
    Solo books for adults: 1
Solo books for young adults/teenagers: 1
Solo books specifically for children: 3

dunno. seems like a fair distribution to me.

Absolutely not. Too much of a good thing is good for nothing. Too much of a bad thing is even worse.
We had fantastic original Planet of the Apes. It was madly popular. So they made more and more, worse and worse. Nothing's really changed. Lucas just didn't want to make a ton of movies. So when his movies did come out, they felt like an event.

The original Planet of the Apes series was made a long time ago, way before anyone new how to properly make a movie series. Nowadays we have Lord of the Rings+Hobbit, Harry Potter, MCU, Hunger Games, Maze Runner etc. with mostly consistent quality. That is why I called it the "age of assembly line".
As for George Lucas, he did make the Holiday Special and two Ewok movies (that people seem to conveniently forget about). And he actually stopped making SW movies because the crazy-obsessed fans kept harassing him.

Hype is a strong word because I've been worried about the production woes. Having said that, Han is my favorite Star Wars character, and I am anxious to see how the canon goes down...

By consistent you mean they are average at best. HP is good mostly because of the books. I don't understand the love for Marvel, I literally cannot distinguish one movie from another and remember anything about them. These are Saturday Morning Cartoons at best.

Some call it the age of the lack of creativity.

I don't think that's accurate. Lucas had lots of things to do. He honestly never though SW would've caught on. He was massively surprised by SW's popularity in the early 90s.

Totally agree on the lack of "event" feeling. Lots of good things are good, but they're less special.

And SW is a silly fantasy about space wizards. The point is, that unlike the original Planet of the Apes, people know how to prevent a movie series from constantly deteriorating.

There's plenty of creativity, it's just that nothing is truly "new" anymore. And besides, do SW fans actually want something new and creative? Because they seem to enjoy the highly derivative TFA, yet passionately hated the PT and TLJ, that did try to do new things.

I mean after the Prequels. Although, the crazy-obsessive hatred seems to have started around 1997 and the Special Editions.[/quote]
