In my mind (and I know another Sci-Fi franchise stole this, but I came up with it first :p) I always assumed we were in the same universe in a nearby galaxy and that the humans of the SW universe eventually migrated and a colony was settled on Earth resulting in the beginning of our civilization. For some reason or another they rejected or were without technology, and had to start from scratch. It explains why their specides looks like ours and allows for an interpretation where this all really did happen a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

I was both pissed and excited when I saw it used in that other show which I won’t name for spoiler purposes.

No no. I was just saying they stole my idea of having an invented sci-fi universe colonize earth and start our civilization, which is how I had always imagined SW ending up. Sorry if that was confusing.

Oh okay. Well you can still write a Star Wars fan fiction lol. Have you read Alien Exodus? It's the exact opposite of what you're describing, humans leaving Earth and starting the Star Wars galaxy. In it, George Lucas' other works, American Graffiti and THX-1138 lead into the "ancient history" of Star Wars.

Ha! No I haven’t, but that’s an interesting take. Although, then wouldn’t SW take place a long time in the future in a galaxy far far away? Or are we stuck in some sort of developmental loop of civilization where we repeat over and over with no end. We create them so they can create us so we can create them sort of a thing.

I think they time-traveled. I haven't read it, I only read the article about it on Wookieepedia.

I remember reading some speculation about the Journal of the Whills possibly being included in the sequel trilogy when Disney announced the purchase of Star Wars. From what I remember, The Journal of the Whills is the name Lucas gave rough treatments or early drafts written by Lucas, but people speculated that it could turn into an important Jedi artifact.

That does not seem likely to happen now, especially since the Whills were involved in TCW cartoon series. The journal is now considered a complete history of the Star Wars universe, or George's notes IRL. Inside the journal, one of the early drafts of Star Wars has Artoo and Threepio as the main characters of the films that recount their stories to Wookie children unable to sleep in the beginning of the saga. The joke by fans was, Lucas should end the Star Wars films by filming a scene of Lucas finding Artoo and the journal in the 1960's on Earth.

I am really fuzzy on all of the details, but your Battlestar Galactica reference reminded me of that :)

isn't the Silmarillion the first chapter in the Star Wars saga? (epic fail)

but really, it is in a galaxy far, far away, not to mention being a long time ago. the light we'd be seeing from their galaxy would take millions of years to even reach us.

wow... for the first time i'm truly seeing the wisdom of canceling out the EU. what a stupid, stupid idea.

hey, i've got an idea for a story! how about the Ewoks finally discover space travel, and when they "blindly" shoot off into hyperspace they end up on Earth, becoming the Care Bears. Unfortunately for them, the Andorians beat them to Earth and already staked the planet out as a Smurf colony; a long and bloody war ensues across the planet with the humans caught between the two sides. only when Pippi Longstocking arrives, having traveled through time and space via a wardrobe, does the fighting finally stop. everyone then peacefully agrees that the one true king is TinTin, who successfully destroyed the great rings of power. and they all lived happily ever after.

Agreed. I can imagine a fanboy dreaming that idea up, but I can't believe someone actually okayed spending corporate money on that project.

A long time ago in a city about 1300 miles from where I am now, I wrote a novel.

The idea? When enough people imagine something to be true, that belief manifests in an alternate universe. So during the time of the ancient Greeks, Zeus and the Titans were real, but as humanity moved on to other gods, the inhabitants of Olympus faded from their alternate existence.

The main characters in the novel are a couple people from Earth who end up in this alternate reality in the summer of 1977, when the whole Earth sat in movie theaters believing in George Lucas' galaxy far, far away.

Throw in a few comic scenes with Bigfoot and Santa and some really mind bending paradoxes and voila!

Yeah, it was probably bad, but I was young.

Yes our galaxy is within the Star Wars universe. Star Wars just takes place "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away".

In Episode 1: The Phantom Menace we can see "E.T.s" in the senate. And as we all know, many years later the "E.T.s" came to Earth to see if Mankind was ready to be entered into the Republic.
