As Han Solo has said..."I have a bad feeling about this!" Sometimes the last voyage of an endearing ship that has seen a lot of action and adventure can be just as disheartening as losing a beloved character. I have heard rumors that this could be it for the legendary spacecraft. If so, would Chewie go down with the ship? Could it be replaced by the snazzy ship that the new character DJ pilots that I have also heard rumors about? Just some thoughts about this. What do you think?

It would not surprise me if they do write off the MF. It has a lot of nostalgic value for older fans, for younger fans, it probably has no resonance. Things change, your favorite characters get old, and die. It wouldn't surprise me if they got rid of some of Star Wars older land marks and icons the same way.

Yes, sadly, I feel the same way. I do have that feeling that Chewie will go down with it, since he is somewhat tied to it. If he would, it would probably be in the most heroic way possible that would probably save the lives of many.

I think many of the older characters will get this type of send off, it'll still be a little sad when it happens though

Actually, I don't see it happening. I'll be surprised if they do away with the Falcon.

It is time for the old characters....to end.

Han's death was probably the most impressive and dramatic scene of the entire saga. JJ created such a memorable momment. Our beloved characters must have an end, maybe in TLJ or IX.

Never thought about it. It could bite the dust, but if it does please don't be with Chewie in it. But I hope it doesn't happen. I love that old fossil.

They may do away with it but I think they will "pass it down". When Han was asking Rey to join him and ChewieI, he referenced wanting someone that appreciates the Falcon. Rey and Chewie took it to find Luke. I could see it being passed down to Rey. My bigger question is Chewie. He had a life debt to Han. Now that Han is gone, what will Chewie do. Will he stay with the Resistance? Go back to his family? or since he accompanied Rey to Luke, will he stay with her? Or will he get the Falcon?

I'd rather IX end with Ben flying the Falcon with Rey (as co-pilot) and the others with him, heading off to some new adventure, then the credits role.

    Nooooo its not possible!

Seriously you have to preserve the Falcon. If it didn't go down with Han it shouldn't go down. And no ship can replace it. The smartest move they have made so far is picking a villain trying to embody Vader because no villain can. So the wrote it into Kylo Ren that he is trying to take up Vader's place. Similarly the falcon is the defining space ship of SW.

In the films the Falcon has either been entrusted to Rey or belongs to Chewie and he drove her to Luke. It still has purpose and I think needs to go on.

Outside of the film the Falcon is going to be featured at Disneyworld/land it is going to be one of the crowing experiences of the new SW experience. I would be surprised if they stop telling stories about it.

Great point. I hadn't thought about that but with the Falcon being featured at Galaxy's Edge in Disney World/Land there is no way they will do away with the Falcon in the movies.

Excellent point! I hadn't paid too much attention to the upcoming Disneyworld attractions. It's good for some things to endure as a reminder of where things came from. Just like Luke. I don't see him dying off in the next film at least. His character has seen too much and is still yet to experience even greater things that we haven't seen yet. Sometimes an old character is refreshed with new experiences. I think we will be surprised in the next film.

To me, the Falcon is among the top iconic, if not the most iconic of Star Wars ships.

I believe it should not be dispensed with carelessly, least of all simply to make way for newer things.

There are hundreds of ships and numerous variants in the Star Wars saga, but the Falcon stands out as the most unique when considering all the other transportation.

It's also that uniqueness that goes toward both the strength and recognizable nature of the Falcon, legendary for its speed and instantly recognized by friends and foes alike -- certainly something to be reckoned with and respected, especially given its history and role in helping to shape the events of the Star Wars galaxy.

Chewie, Finn, Rey, and others could still probably put it to plenty of good use as they extend the generational legends of the Falcon.

I think the Falcon will be Rey and Chewie's ship. I don't see it biting the dust.

No, The Falcon is there to stay... even maybe in the next trilogy.
    Rey's heritage...

Some things will survive this trilogy. Actors are getting older and maybe need to have a send off... not the robots, not the Falcon. Too iconic.

I thought about this and it would be a mistake IMO. There's just no reason for it, the ship can live forever and be a part of many stories to come. Destroying it could end up feeling like a cheap trick for shock value. TFA already suggest that the Falcon is now Rey's. First we see she can fly it perfectly well, she knows the mechanics, Han offers her a job, she takes it to get to Ahch-To... Yup, it's hers now and I'm cool with it. But I would prefer it if it became Ben's after his potential redemption.

There was a similar discussion in another thread and I wrote:
Same thing applies to the Falcon.

I seriously doubt it. Maybe, MAYBE at the end of Episode IX- but I'd still doubt it. The ship is too iconic. I wouldn't mind a new ship at some point for the heroes, but that probably won't happen until the 4th trilogy (assuming there is a 4th trilogy). Or maybe a new, iconic ship for one of the spin-offs.

I have my doubts. In The Force Awakens novel, when Rey and Chewie leave for Ahch-To, he makes a point of sitting in the co-pilot's seat and motioning for her to sit in Han's seat, and when she gets choked up and tries to get Chewie to pilot it, he refuses and insists that she pilot the ship. I think Rey has kind of inherited the ship now, and because of how iconic the Falcon is, I really can't see them doing away with it.

Plus, it really would make Rey a total badass if she inherited Han's ship, Luke's lightsaber, and something from Leia, too. Like, through Rey, we'd always have a part of all of the Original Trilogy characters, regardless of their fates.

I agree that the death of the Falcon would have an emotional impact equal to the death of a main character, but within a multigenerational saga it functions (like Luke's lightsaber) as an artifact of continuity. Ships don't have to die. Like old cars (cf. Lucas' American Graffiti), they can be refurbished and kept going, and passed down to each generation. It can function as an axis of familiarity while new characters are born, live and pass away.

I think you could probably make an argument that the Falcon is Lucas' favorite character and if he were still in charge, would outlive even the droids.
