    I don't think so.

I think the likelihood is that she is a Skywalker/ Solo or a new unaligned character with no other Star Wars tie ins.

    Don't think so either.

I reckon LFL mentioned that the spin-offs are going to be stories that are not going to affect future episodes or something like that.

    Unlikely.

BTW, it could be a very interesting story without the bloodline thing.

No. This movie has nothing to do with Skywalker baby mama drama. I would hate that it would. Let it just be a fun movie. The galaxy could end up being very vast.

Rogue One is billed as a heist film with a gritty war film vibe. It doesn't have Jedi. It doesn't have any familiar characters in lead roles.

    Wow. That sounds terrific, but...

Disney spent $4 billion on Star Wars and they want to make $40 billion. Disney does not make bold choices or take creative risks. Disney does not support young filmmakers and their vision. By many accounts Disney is a horrible company to work outside of the paychecks, and there are numerous articles detailing directors in conflict with the studio in the recent Marvel films because of studio interference.

Disney could have made any Star Wars film they wanted. They chose this one. Then they shoehorned it between Episode 7 and Episode 8. WHY?

To confuse 'casual' Star Wars fans with a movie that has nothing to do with the sequel trilogy? That doesn't sound like Disney to me.

These films need to be $1 billion plus event films each year. They're not for us. They're for the friends and family we bring to the theater with us who looked at the Rogue One trailer and ended up looking like Forest Whittaker with a very confused look on their face.

No matter what they say publicly ... they have to connect. Don't they? So that when we walk into Episode 8 and Episode 9 and they reveal Rey's mother our friends and family can say, "Ohhhhhhh! The girl from that thing!" Right? So they can sell Jyn Erso figures and merchandise for 40 years? Right?

I look at this based solely on the marketing and financial motivations of a meddlesome studio and based on that I certainly expect Jyn to be Rey's mother. Because if she's not and they leave all that money on the table the stockholders should revolt.

HaHa yeah im with you here, i hate tie ins in movies linking them all together... I for one would love Rey to have 100% no connection to anyone we know BUT this is the movies and directors these days cant think outside the box.

    Jyn is not Rey's mother.

That was already confirmed in a way by Daisy Ridley's statement in the MTV award interview about two weeks ago. End of story.

Must likely is Jyn to die in Rogue One because we never heard of her in any of the further movies, therefore Jyn CAN'T be Rey's mother.

At first I thought she'd end up being Rey's mother but after much pondering I don't think she will be.

It's so hard to call where Rey's parentage is from but I think that Luke will end up telling her who her parents were. I for one think Luke is too obvious to be the father but we'll see.

One theory I've liked is that she's Poe Dameron's sister and that she is Force Sensitive because of a Force Tree she was born nearby [see Shattered Empire Comic series]. But even then it's a long shot... especially considering Poe and Rey didn't even speak to each other if TFA.

Dameron's mother died 3 years before Rey's born.

She doesn't. And Kathleen Kennedy has already said that the anthologies will be used to tell stories OUTSIDE of the Skywalker family saga (which is what the main films are for). Trying to blatantly crowbar in a connection that big/obvious, goes very much against that statement. And it'd feel REALLY forced (no pun intended) imo. Of course of all the women in the galaxy, Luke would just happen to fall for the one who was the star of the first spinoff film, what a freaking coincidence. Also it would reek of a lack of confidence on their part that the spinoffs can stand on their own.

It's not needed imo. Let Jyn be awesome in her own right.

Not exactly sure about agreeing with the 'Rey's mother or not' part, I can see both sides of the coin, but everything else you spoke of is 100% spot on. Disney did NOT spend $4B just to make artsy projects. This is about marketing, licensing, toys, apparel, etc... so much more than just the "film" portion

I have to ask, how does the Han Solo movie between 8 and 9 fit in your theory?

It's a standalone movie. Not "the super-secret backstory of character x".

People don't seem to get that Disney's format for their Star Wars franchise movies is meant to be distinct from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I feel as though that should have been apparent by the absence of a post-credits tag on The Force Awakens. Not everything has to tie in with everything.
