SPECULATION Is Leia Going to Be Killed in TLJ?

I am sure it will change how ep IX goes but the easiest way to manage it is a time gap between films. She will be mentioned and mourned.

 

Sounds good to me, nice way to tie everything together too. Maybe Anakin could say something akin to "your mother would be proud of you" or something, for a nod to Padme and the Skywalker lineage

 

"You're so much like your mother", would be touching.
Leia could ask about Padme and then perhaps the conversation could lead into what it was that turned Anakin (thus finding a way to prevent Ben's complete fall)...
I personally think this could be Anakin way of finding true atonement. Not only has he sacrificed his physical life, but now he can perhaps sacrifice his spiritual one too, for the sake of his children, grandchild and the galaxy?

 

Here's how I believe things will go down based on previous reports...

1. Leia's Capital ship is attacked (the one she's on in the trailer, looking at the star map).
2. Phasma and company lead the attack and board the ship (also in the trailer),
3. Poe, Rose, Finn and BB-8 escape the attack thanks to Leia.
4. She uses the force to save them but is badly injured and winds up in a coma.
5. TLJ ends with her unconscious in her coma state (similar to Han being frozen in carbonite).
6. Episode 9 will being with Leia's memorial service. The opening crawl will read PRINCESS LEIA HAS BECOME ONE WITH THE FORCE.

 

I voted no, I don't think she'll die in Episode IX... because I think she dies in The Last Jedi.
Kathleen Kennedy has pretty much said that she won't be in IX, and there's no way that Leia would be around in the galaxy and not be at the forefront of the war. that wouldn't be in her character.
There was a rumour a while back that Leia would be attacked at some point by an assassin and spend some time in a coma. If this turns out to be true in some way, I imagine they'll rewrite it where she passes from this.

 

Here's what keeps me up at night. Even Kasdan said that this film is going to dark places and Rian made some "weird thing" that may turn Star Wars on its head. I am worried that Leia will become one with the Force by using it in an uncontrolled manner against none other than Luke. I would envision that Luke has a chance to end Kylo's life and she steps in with a dangerous Force event... giving everything she has to give - including her life - to save her son.

 

Great post. The only (minor) issue that I have is that we start the movie with Finn in a coma and end the movie with Leia in a coma. Too many people in comas.

 

Maybe Finn is just taking a nap?

 

KK did not say Leia, however, she strongly implied Leia will not be in EP IX because she said the EP IX script had not been started at the time of Carrie's death. This fact would be irrelevant if Leia were still in EP IX.

So, they have already said no CGI of Leia in EP IX. If KK is saying Leia is not in EP IX then that takes re-casting the role out of the picture. Starting the crawl of EP IX with "General Organa has died" would be the worst possible thing they could do. I think we can reconcile Todd Fisher's comment and KK's statement. I believe they took footage from TFA and TLJ to have Leia die towards the end of TLJ. Todd was "confused" about which movie they were using this footage in. As was previously mentioned, there were rumors early that Leia was gravely injured towards the beginning of TLJ, so that could explain why they potentially have footage of Leia in peril. I truly believe this is the only play they have to do the character justice.

You have to pay attention to what KK says about the IX script. Strongly implies that Leia will not be in IX.

 

It's gonna be a offscreen i think.

 

The part you're missing is that Bob Iger said VIII will not be altered in any way regarding her death, "not changing (The Last Jedi) to deal with her passing. Her performance remains as it is."

And before she passed away Trevorrow said that Leia and Luke would be heavily featured in IX.

 

Not altered? So if Leia haves a line at the end of TLJ & says something like "I & Poe will meet you at the hidden NR base." It's gonna look superfluous with Poe there but no Leia at the start of 9.

 

Not if Trevorrow wanted Leia to have a bigger role in IX than VIII. Unless he lied to us, Leia does not die in episode VIII.

Exactly why I assume they will recast Leia. You either do that or go with an explanation in the scroll which I think would be a disservice to Leia and Fisher.

 

I really think she needs to die. Any other end wouldn't really work. We already know she won't be in 9, so this has to be it. Maybe Leia dying was part of the original plan all along. That'd be really fortunate. But a touching scene with Kylo/Ben would be nice, maybe a reunion with Luke.

 

I don't understand why people keep saying she won't be in 9. Again, Fisher and Leia are two different entities.
