Sith cannot Canonically become Force Ghosts.[/QUOTE]

Right now. But all JJ has to do is decide that they found a way.

Would be a cool scene to see Kylo kneeling before a force image of Vader "it is time to show you the true nature of the dark side..." and then the image transforms into darth sidious when he reveals his true identity. Then Kylo gets full of rage swinging his blade through it while sidious laughs about his deception. Then the image changes to Han, to Luke, to Anakin, to his mother...all the while laughing at Kylo's impotence. He then decides he must team up with Rey to destroy Sidious.

Some rules can't really be broken. The reason Jedi can become Force Ghosts is because of their selflessness. Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Luke became one with the force. The Sith on the other hand are selfish. They want to live forever. Canon provides a way for a Sith to posses or haunt an object and perhaps be reborn by taking someone's body. JJ and RJ have both consulted with the Lucas and Johnson with the Lucas and the storygroup about what can and can't be done with the force. Kennedy said the idea to bring Palpatine back has been around for a long time. The only question was how they were going to do it and it sounds like they've been laying the ground work.

Wow, would JJ really get source material from a comic book? That Vader story arc was written by one the best comic writer of our day, Charles Soule. Loved the entire story arc with Momin, BUT, JJ isn't Kevin Feige, i don't think JJ would borrow from a comic book. I don't think Chris Terrio would borrow from a Marvel comic book to complete the sequel trilogy. but what do I know Disney owns Marvel so anything is possible.

Kathleen Kennedy said that his return in IX has been in the blueprint for a long time but i dont really buy that. Sure, it may have been in JJ Abrams blueprint but probably not in Kennedys blueprint. Rian Johnson has said that this trilogy doesnt have a blueprint as you know.

Well regardless of the Marvel connection, everything is canon. So, why not pull from the comics?

2015 Tip: when googling Momin, Google thinks you're typing Mormons. Fun fact: apparently Mormons are huge fans of Star Wars.

Okay, Fortress Vader was apparently published in november 2018. So the Momin thing was probably written when the TROS script was nearly or completely done. Maybe it was introduced in the comic book on the advice of the story group to create a canonical basis for Palpatines return? Charles Soule, the man behind Fortress Vader, has described his work with the story group like this:

"" "It's not like they are trying to step on stories or anything like that," Soule said of the experience of authors like him working with the story group. "They propose a spot in the timeline, then it's like, 'What would you like to do with the character?'"

Soule said it's a "back and forth" in the story group.

"There's lots of outlines, kicking ideas around and eventually it turns into a comic," he said.
    ""

"" Interviewer: Talk about the bit where Leia promotes Poe back to Commander, a rank she herself took from him in The Last Jedi.

Charles Soule: She was the one who demoted him, so it had to be her. That moment, doing in that moment right after he gives her that speech about why it’s important to save Black Squadron, was a que to Leia that Poe had learned what she had hoped he would.

Originally, that promotion was not in the script, it was something that came from the Lucasfilm story group which is rare, usually most of stuff in the scripts comes from me. So, whenever something like that happens it’s super cool because usually it’s the opposite where they’re telling me what I can’t use. ""

I'd be stunned if JJ ever reads the comics, but he would ask how this can be done and Lucusfilm would tell him here's the template. There's been a lot of canon groundwork over the last few years on relics, finding relics, the Vader helmet relic, and the Momin relic.

I don't know if it'll happen exactly like we've seen in these examples, but we know that it is possible for Palpatine to come back and take over another person's body. My guess he attempts to do that in this film and maybe does it for short time.
