    Well, for a general audience, the Skywalker origin still can be surprising, as TFA led us to think that she's not Luke's daughter. She knows Luke as a legend and she calls him by name. It all can be another 'rhyme' to the OT. In ANH the audience was told that Luke's father's dead. In the next movie: surprise, he's not. We can have it the same way in the Ep8. TFA: Luke's not her father. Ep8: surprise, he is. For hardcore fans it'd be obvious of course, for general audience - not. However, i don't know if i was happy if it were the case that's why i voted 'Undecided' in that poll.

    There's a few reasons why I don't believe she is Luke's daughter.

    First one being- Way too obvious. That kind of a lack of surprise element within this trilogy is not winning.

    2nd- I believe whomever left Rey with Unkar Plutt did so by selling her, since no one in their right mind would have left her with such a ruthless trader. She may have even been traded for the ship she saw in her force vision leave.

    Lastly, I believe that lightsaber (blue) 'calling' is not necessarily a family calling but more so to 'the chosen one', A.K.A- Anakin, then as Yoda and Obi wan discuss 'The last hope' Luke, Then Yoda says 'No, there is another'... Leia? Maybe. We do see in the trailer, from a now deleted scene in The Force Awakens, Leia receiving the Lightsaber from Maz Kanata.

    If not, then Yoda may have meant, while seeing a force vision from the future ... Rey.

    Agree with most of that except the Yoda seeing Rey as the other part. Rey is 19 in TFA. TESB was 35years or so before.

    If it was Luke's daughter, they would have let her with Lor San Tekka not Unkar Plutt. They're on the same planet.

    @Ammianus Marcellinus

    Quick question. What was your reaction to Rey and Luke's meeting? Is that how you would have expected Rey to react to seeing her father? And is Luke's reaction, the staring at the saber, the reaction of a father seeing his long lost daughter?

    I mean, I kind went in to TFA thinking she was his. After seeing it, I felt differently. I'd like to know what your reaction was to those scenes. And anyone else who'd like to chime in!

    Thanks.

    hahaha ~ surprised? no. irritated? probably. Rey's parentage has become like a bad rash.

    good luck with the #notthrawn. i got no pony in that race either and i'm staying out of the viii threads for the most part.

    i think i said this before, but i had the exact same experience:
    i was convinced she was Luke's daughter, but after watching the movie all those preconceptions fell apart.

    BDT will be Rey's dad. Already too many real villains. He'll be the semi-villainous father of Rey. A criminal gangster type. Likely served the Empire in some way. (boba fett)

    Sinjir would be too old. If he is middle aged in Aftermath, he would be 70+ years old in this era.

    This is getting ridiculous. Every time a character appears he had to be linked to somebody. Snoke, Plagueis. Finn, Lando, Rey, Luke, BDT, Thrawn. As if the galaxy ended 30 years ago.

    This is all IMHO of course, but the way I see it...

    While it is WAY too early to call it, I don't think Rey is Luke's daughter. There is NO plot twist material in a big reveal of Ray being Luke's daughter; at best that will spark a wave of shrugs - "ok, so what?" Obviously LFL/Disney is being ambigious and mysterious about Rey's background, but there is no reason why Rey has to be Luke's daughter. Actually, it is almost as if 'they' refrain from stating outright that she isn't just to leave the "she might be Luke's child" in as the "obvious" option, only to shockingly reveal she descends from someone else later.

    All the "ST continuing the Skywalker story" and "You have that power too" hints are, IMHO, directed at/realized by Ben Solo. HE is the descendent of Anakin, the chosen one with the force bacteria count off the scale.

    My guess is,
    either, a) Rey's backstory is completely unrelated to anything else, she's just some force sensitive girl that heard about/trained under Luke and has potential (although this is not very satisfying story-wise);
    or, b) she's a descendent of Obi-Wan <-- this is my guess, as to me Rey pushes ALL the Kenobi-in-ANH buttons in TFA;
    OR, c) she's someone elses child entierly - someone we don't suspect, like... I dunno... Palpatine or something. That would be VERY strange indeed, but good writers can make anything work. (Still, my money is definitelly on "Rey Kenobi").
