No it means shes doesn't see Luke as Ben's father. I think there is a good reason for that.

You mean the new movie might have new things to explain to the audience? I never considered that possibility..........this changes everything!

That could be a strong, beautiful story. And the story of a father finding a daughter he thought was dead and teaching her could be a strong and beautiful one as well. Rey would still be a new hero with new dynamics. We might have a related hero because these are the saga films and the saga films are about the Skywalkers, not the Skywalker legacy. You keep trying to change teh standing point even though its one of the few pieces of evidence/facts we have.

Is Snoke a completely new character? Yes.
Was Kenobi a main protagonist for large parts of the PT? Yes.

And if Leia senses Han's death wouldn't Luke sense his daughters death?

Says who? You're makinga huge leap there. PROVE that Luke wouldn't be ok with his students doing that. You can speculate, but your speculation isn't valid or fact or based on proof. All we KNOW is that Luke ignored parts of the code, therefore you can't argue he wouldn't do something because of it. He has shown a willingness to break it. If the PT era Jedi only allowed 1 apprentice per Jedi it was probably because multiple students would lead to competion, jealousy etc... and possibly produce Jedi massively susceptible to the dark side.

Sure, tell me where its published and I'll find it for you.

Until then, one of the new novels said that was the mantra, not the entire code. And lines FROM THE MOVIE make it unlikely that is the entire code since it doesn't mentioned teaching methods.

I'm not talking about the code. I'm talking about Luke's own wisdom and experience. It's not about following an old code but understanding what it is to be a Jedi.

Luke has one vital task - build the Jedi Order. You think he'd jeopardise that by promoting the kind of things that usually result in attachment?

Anyway I have more important things to do, like sleep. Twilight is upon me and soon night must fall.

"Han knew Rey was Luke's daughter"...

    Yes he is, so..........?

But not the entire thing. It was still centered on a Skywalker.

I don't know. I think it depends on how that works for a Jedi. Does a death simply ripple out and any/ever Jedi can feel it? If thats the case and Rey was feeling all the death in the galaxy the entire time with no training to keep it out, how did she function? Or does a Jedi need to tuned into someone to feel a death, do they need to be actively feeling for their death?

Anakin clearly didn't feel Padme's death or his childrens birth. He didn't feel his mothers pain, he got visions in his dreams. Obi-wan didn't feel Anakin falling to the Dark Side or allt he Jedi's deaths the way Yoda did (or at least didn't appear too).

Ultimately, I think the concept of Jedi feeling things like that is vague enough they can ignore it when they want too.

If you NEED an in-universe possibility. Lukes wife snuck Rey away any shielded them both so Luke didn't know. They put a force "cloak on her" so bad guys culdn't find her but it cut them off too. He was busy fighting people and couldn't focus on her then lost her etc....

So Luke is wise enough to think family ties, that saved his life multiple times, are dangerous but putting students in a possible to be jealous and in conflict was perfectly fine?

Doesn't the master/apprentice relationship itself result in attachment? Obi-wan was like Anakins father, then his brother. He loved thim. He refused to go kill him at first etc...

Whats funny is that Skyalker name = unoriginal.

Just a quick point about Luke and attachment vs the Jedi Code.

Luke has always shown attachment - it's a defining part of his character and a major reason why he doesn't fall to the darkside.

Throughout the 3 films, Luke shows a very strong attachment to the following: Obi-Wan, R2, Leia, Han, Biggs and, to the memory of, Anakin Skywalker.

Yoda thinks these attachments will be the end of him - but they're his strength! Of course, this was carried on into the old EU too, its what Luke does.

The point is that Luke became a jedi when he threw his lightsaber in the emperor's room and let go of everything. Just before that he went full anger on Vader because of his attachment to Leia.

My point was it didn't make sense to me personally, your misunderstanding my premise. It's just the way I've always seen Luke a guy who works best as an a celibate hero with friendships that are stronger than sexual relations. Which IS a matter of interpretation,it's fiction your view is just as helpful as mine don't be so dogmatic. here me out.

However as to your second point I am completely in favor with the Older ways of the Jedi being thrown away in the ST era. The whole point of the prequels from my point of view is the failure of the Jedi ORDER (besides the intentioned plot focusing on Anakin.) would prefer a return to something lile The Jed'aii order from legends which was made more sense from my perspective than the nonsense of 'there is no emotion there is the Force', just doesn't compute with my way seeing the Heroes in a great fictional work. Why does everybody assume the old Jedi Order was a good thing when they couldn't sense a Sith Master 2 feet in front of them and did pretty much NOTHING to prevent the blood shed of the Clone wars?....

With all due respect the level of light side Dogmatism is driving my Sith blood mad! MUHAHAHa! Seriously though I Love this forum but why can't people stomach the light side sometimes being bad? Grey Jedi please stand up and be counted! I'm out. LoL

But did he not decide not to kill Vader because of the love and pity he felt for his father too?

I don't think the Jedi Code will mean much going forwards - if the story group, and other directors, feel it'll get in the way of where they want the story to go they'll ignore it.

On the other hand, they'll use it if they feels it's important to their story - at this point it really is anyone's guess as to if it'll be important or not.

It's fun to speculate, though ;)

I think they considered it important because even if the PT was supposed to take place earlier, the movies were made after.

    So ...

Lol this Vader / Luke attachment always made me laugh. They tried to kill each other every time they met. They need a Jerry Springer special.

Luke or Rey's mom could have left Rey on Jakku to hide her from Snoke and even herself. Snoke may have already been influencing Ben by that time and Luke may have known or at least known about Snoke.

Snoke and Luke may have history before Ben and Rey so there could have easily been very good reason to "abandon" Rey.
I would think Darth Vader thought of Padme at the end and wanted to save her son out of love for her memory. Palpatine defeated Anakin in every way with the exception of his love of Padme.

    That could be a point.

I mean for Padme, I don't buy the Luke ( aka the most powerful being of the galaxy ) being afraid of Snoke and hiding a child alone to a slaver.

The movies take place after but Luke is not a pt era Jedi. He does not have to follow the the code they did. He has the freedom and ability to things differently.

For someone who wants originality so much you seem determined to see the Jedi stay the same

    And how did palpatin die?
    --- Double Post Merged, Jan 11, 2017 ---
Imagine the power of the threat that would scare Luke like that.

Mmmmm, I wonder if that could be a useful storytelling technique......naw.. maybe if they.......nah.

I want an original story with the existing lore.

BTW, you are changing standards every time you post. First, we didn't have to acknowledge the movies because of KK's quotes but now we have to acknowledge novels and movies. Then family was Ok if not attached for Luke, now, attachment is Ok. The jedi code wasn't the jedi code and when I found the jedi doctrine, it wasn't ok either.

There is no coherence in your talk. One time it's black, the other time it's white and now, it's gray. Lore is changing when you decide to. It's whatever please me is OK ...

    So be it.

You ignored the "going forwards" bit - there are no PT Jedi left. If this current story group don't want Luke to follow that Jedi Code, he won't. If they do, he will.

Look, there's a reason none of the new books have hardly touched on Luke yet - he's to be completely shrouded in mystery until EP8. Which is the way it should be.

I'm perfectly happy with them using or not using the code - whatever makes the most sense for the story they want to tell is good with me. The point is, don't think an old Jedi Code will stop them from writing Luke how they want to.

Well then an original story with a new skywalker is just what you're looking for.

I have never once said we dotnt have to acknowledge the movies. Fine - Luke benefited greatly from close familiar bonds and the idea that he'd see value of them within the Jedi is far from a crazy idea. Clear? I said there was clearly more to the code then discovered what you posted was the mantra. Your doctrine, from what I can tell, is just some guys website.

    It's really not that complicated
