I disagree with your definition of "attachment", but that's fine, it's semantics. What this discussion is truly about is relationships.

Vader had some semblance of a relationship with Luke. Good lord, you can even hear in Luke pleas of "Father, please" that this relationship is emphasized. It was a driving force in Vader's decision- had it been some nameless Rebel soldier or Ewok, would Vader still have done "the right thing?"

Then you disagree with George Lucas and the spiritual ideas of Buddhism on which a lot of the Force/Jedi stuff in based on. But ok, fine. Your call.

No. Nor have I said otherwise. Your kids can bring out the best in you. Luke awakened the love in Anakin.
But then we have to remember why Vader existed in the first place.

So you have no proof. So yoda could have a higher count then Luke. Got it.

WATCH THE MOVIE. It's very clear he never unconscious.

Why wouldn't he know he could do something he's already done? And you could make the argument you are for training multiple and older students, yet Luke did it. You can say you'd prefer him not to have, but this arrogant "it's impossible and bad story telling etc...." is bs

But who says the Jedi remain the same throughout?

Having "classmates" can lead all kinds of other negative feelings and emotions.

Then why take the risks and break the code at all? Because he sees benefits regardless of risk and/or he thinks the old Jedi were wrong. You can't have a job and be a father? Well it's certainly troubling news .......

And you finally seem to be getting it. I can see the character not seeing it as a risk , as it adding something to he Jedi order that it was missing or a risk worth taking - like having multiple students

First off, Mara Jade, I know she was never in the mix for lucas’ ideas, that doesn’t mean Luke can’t have a love interest or someone else he had a fling with.

There is nothing wrong with Jedi getting married, at least to me. Samurai can have children as can knights. Not being married is just a philosophy that certain Jedi order practiced. Lucas said so when a kid wrote a letter to Lucasfilm asking if its okay for the Jedi to get married.

Much of what the Jedi did during the Prequel era was under controversy. Luke would have to rebuild and learn from the mistakes from the previous Jedi. Because the previous Jedi were a bit stupid because they couldn’t see a Sith was duping them from the very beginning.

No, Kylo Ren knew about Rey. Abrams said so in an interview. He knows of the girl.

Rey is Luke’s kid. I will bet my money on it. Why? If Kylo Ren is the last generation of the skywalker clan that would be a pretty dour way to finish off the series.
Rey being a Skywalker adds to the legacy of Vader. One grandchild follows down his path while the other does the opposite.

Also Luke having a child would be a nice parallel with his father. He also breaks some of the old Jedi ways but doesn’t go down the same path.

Lucas said that the themes for 7,8,9 would deal with philosophical themes about right and wrong and the issues of justice. Luke having a daughter would bring up the issue of a Jedi doing the right or wrong thing.

Luke did more than "Bring out the best in him", though. His feelings for Luke literally led him back to the light. If your implication is that his romance with Padme led him to the dark, that point is now balanced by Luke bringing him back. Besides, have you ever considered that perhaps it wasn't Anakin's relationships, but rather his obsessive need for control that led him to the dark side? After all, it's canon that Obi Wan and Satine, at the very least had feelings. I never heard of a canon Darth Kenobi.

And again, this was in the EU. In one version of Star Wars, it's already happened. Not sure why we're even having this discussion at all, really.

So I think Rey is a Skywalker. I have a feeling that the ST will end with the Resistance bringing peace to the Galaxy, it will be the last trilogy scored by Williams and Luke will finally build a New Order (of some sort - not specifically Jedi, but rather, Force users). If we're ever going to get a final saga film, it would be IX.

However, if Rey isn't a Skywalker and the through line is Kylo...then I think we're in for a ride. Both Anakin and Luke had 6 movies each, with 3 crossing over (the OT), with Luke obviously the renowned farm boy and Anakin our dear Lord Vader. The ST would be Ben and Luke's crossing over, and will end - if Ben is the focus and Rey is not, what with being a Skywalker - with either Ben turning and helping his uncle rebuild the Jedi/build a New Order of Force users, or becoming darker, killing Snoke, Luke and possibly even Rey, and ruling the galaxy.

Which could present some beautiful artistic and philosophic symmetry: Ben would either mirror Anakin's journey to an extent (his lust for power transforming into love, which came pretty much the other way around for Anakin) and rebuilding the Order his grandfather destroyed, or potentially achieving his grandfather's dream of ruling the Galaxy (with a potential family in tow).

And that...is intriguing to me, to say the least. It certainly seems like the kind of story GL would have wanted to tell...

    That's puerile.

I don't have proof no. I wasn't able to test Luke's blood. But the movies adequately prove my point. But you won't respond to those points, of course...

    Prove it.
    Do you have kids?
Because I can tell you that I think about them more than anyone else. I know it would require more to let go of my attachment to them than anyone else.

I also didn't say it was impossible. I said it would be probable or risky amongst other things.
You need to quote properly. Don't know what this is in response to. x3

The Jedi Order survived for thousands of years and maintained peace this way. And are you saying that Luke would be ok with his students become attached? Not letting go of fear or jealousy or possessiveness? Are you saying Luke would think it a good idea for him to devote time to raising a family rather than serving the force?

    EU. Bye.

Sure. It's possible. But Luke is the last Jedi. He has the responsibility of keeping peace in the galaxy. You think he would jeopardise that by having a family and risking attachment or negligence?

Hard to see the Dark Side is.

No he didn't. You're wrong. And someone just posted a quote from JJ saying Ren didn't know her.

Or Ren is redeemed and it is a nice ending for the Skywalker's...

Remind me of that scene where Kenobi marries Satine...?
When Anakin returns, he does so by letting go of his attachments - to power, to possessions, to hate.
Yes, he shows that one can have a child and not be attached. But it is a pretty confined moment and a life and death situation.
We're talking about the general guidelines of being a Jedi and risks in attachment.

Lucas always dismissed the EU as being separate. It's a nonsense.

Kylo Ren is the perfect legacy of Vader or did I miss something ? Vader was for most of his life a total curse to the galaxy. Ren is finishing what Vader tried to do. It's not a last stand in the emperor's room that could wash the billions of liters of blood he had on his hands.

Stop acting like Vader was a cool dude to hang on with.

Or Ren is redeemed and saves the day (because of Rey's heroism and love)....

My feeling is that Lucas story had Rey and Ben as the twins. One light and one dark.
JJ and co came on board and wanted a different dynamic. Kept Ben as the Vader grandchild and made Rey someone new and unrelated:
In my view so we can have Ren develop feelings for Rey.
I mean it is highly doubtful that they are siblings now. And cousins is just weak.
Ren has compassion for Rey already. I think Rey will develop feelings for BEN too.

    No I am right,

I don’t think Lucas had Kylo Ren and Rey as twins. Pablo Hidalgo said that the idea of Jacen and Jaina were not in Lucas’ treatments.

Apparently the concept of Rey came from Lucas himself which is interesting

We can go in circles with this argument but I am convinced Rey is Luke’s kid. Perhaps you can tell me told you so in 11 months but we will just have to wait and see

It would work, but in doing so, that would bring the overarching character sagas (Anakin being I - VI and Luke being IV - IX) to an end, in my opinion, and could potentially do away with anything considered a continuation of the Skywalker Story in the next saga trilogy (in the event that there is one).

As I said above, that's one of the options. If Ren is our Skywalker - even if not directly by name - he could be doing a reverse of Vader in another way too: in terms of timeline, he would be transforming from the villain to the likely protagonist.

As for the statement that "cousins is just weak", I disagree. I'm not sure how it works in the SWU, but imagining that it follows here (which seems to be made evident by Luke being the seemingly more Force-tuned offspring of Anakin), Rey having the Skywalker legacy lightsaber would be somewhat inherited from her father (there are many cases where inheritance is paid forward to children during the parent's life, the most famous example being the Bible's Prodigal Son) and would definitely be another way to anger Ben. That lightsaber - and his thought that he has the right to rule the Galaxy (due to his family history) - would be thrown into contention if Rey was in any way related to him, and especially so if she was a daughter of Luke's. Not to mention that I can definitely see her holding onto that thing, and it wouldn't be much of a Skywalker Legacy lightsaber anymore if she wasn't a Skywalker... :p

But yeah, in relation to my points about Ben, I think I've walked myself into a trap. While I think it's possible - or somewhat much more likely - that Rey is Luke's daughter, from a narrative standpoint him being the villain of this trilogy and the protagonist of the next would, thematically, compliment GL's saga extremely well.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jan 11, 2017 ---
Was about to mention that: if Lucas was to have taken on the ST, I highly doubt that he'd do anything such as use Jacen and Jaina proxies. Especially after the critical backlash the prequels received and how they affected his willingness to move forward with any of the films. Do we really think GL would want to go down as, argued by many (but not myself), "ruining Star Wars" [with the prequels] and becoming a "copycat" [with the sequels]?

I have my doubts. Yes, Star Wars has drawn great influences from a great many things, and follows many myths and legends almost to a "T", but I'll be darned if GL isn't one of, if not, the most daring, innovative and original storytellers to turn up on our little planet. Ever.

Here, let me pick up that goalpost for you so you can move it back a few yards.

Seriously, all of a sudden "marriage" is suddenly the qualifier? Good lord, keep reaching.

Or, you know, you can go by what is actually in the film and see that it is specifically about hate. Which is why, of course, it's not at all inconceivable that Luke would see value in love.

Lucas isn't writing the ST, either, so your point is?

Seriously, man, your persistence in absolutely denying something that not only is possible, but has occurred within the franchise already, is baffling.

Potentially, and we have proof of it.

We know from the TPM novel that 1 was the he oldest the PT Jedi would take recruits. Part of the reason for this is to avoid attachments, the first time we hear yoda talk about loss and the dark side he's talking to anakin about his mother. And we see the pitfalls of that attachment. We also know from lines in TFA that Ben wa solder then 1 when he went to train with Luke.

We know Luke didn't view attachment in the same way as the pt era Jedi.

Fact is, Luke Was/is ok with his students being attached to others

I don't understand the Skywalker obsession but whatever ...

You make movies over a story not a name.

The thing I read is that people rather have a poor story with Rey Skywalker than an awesome story with Rey Posh or whatever her name is.

If they want to go both way, I rather her being Rey Solo. At least, it's compatible with the lore but I'm afraid people won't be happy with a Solo either ...

"Fact"? I didn't want to get involved, but seriously? I wouldn't say that anything in VII or other canon materials have suggested as much.

Leia sent Ben away with Luke, by choice, meaning that he likely wasn't removing them from families. I don't see Luke taking away his two year-old nephew from his sister, after all!

Fact is: we have no basis on which to build your argument, so unless VIII or new canon materials begin to support it, I wouldn't go calling it "fact". Especially in a place like this - we're all SW fans: MEGA SW FANS - and to say something is "fact" when there is nothing to support it isn't only likely to push some people the wrong way, you're more-or-less straight up lying to fellow fans. And that...isn't so artistically done.

No, you're wrong. That's JJ talking about what Ren says in the film. He hears about the girl who escaped Jakku with the droid. He says to her "you're the girl I have heard so much about". He's not talking about knowing her before the events of TFA, but within them. See the quote someone posted above. JJ states that Ren doesn't know her.

Because that is EU. Pablo is aaying that the stuff Zahn wrote was EU.

No, see I won't do that because I am not trying to claim I KNOW what will happen. I am stating my opinion of what I think should happen and what it looks like to me might happen. I know as much as the next guy.

My point is that Kenobi chose against being with Satine and didn't form an attachment to her. He let her get on with her life and she with his.

    Again, you're misquoting me.
Luke loves. All Jedi love. They just cannot be attached.

I hope they stay true to his story and its mythological and moral underpinnings. What is yours? That ANYTHING can happen? Deep.

You're ability to ignore the intentions of the author is greater.
Read my posts again. I am not saying Luke can't do X. I am not saying if he did X then he will become Y. I am saying that, going by the character and the promises he made previously, I'd be surprised if he chose a certain path.

Furthermore, my point about "Rey Skywalker" is that it continues the lineage for the sake of it. It doesn't add anything new. We've seen this story through Anakin and Luke. The only new continuation is being told through Ren. Rey being an outsider who can connect to the Skywalker's in a fresh way interests me. Another Skywalker father/child relationship seems pointless - and will then echo for an eternity into future trilogies.

But the story is about a family.

Literally no one has said a bad story with Rey skywalker is what they want

Re skywalker can be 100% compatible with existing lore

Honestly, I see no reason to continue. The above quote, I believe, demonstrates just how unwilling to see any other side than the narrow one you've already decided on. How one could possibly know that it doesn't add anything new after only seeing one film out of the trilogy is utterly beyond me, but best of luck to you.
