We've been through this exercise before! Vader had never met his kids before. He hadn't made a connection. Leia would've made a connection with her daughter.

When Han tells Leia about Rey in the novel she promoptly forgets the girls name and then, as in TFA, shows little concern for her well being. And are we really to believe that Leia knew off screen that she was her mum, don't see her acknowledgement of that (my daughter is alive!!!) and then have to think she sends Rey off without telling her? And why the hell would Leia hide her daughter on Jakku? Makes no sense.

See above. And why keep something silent that would so clearly have impacted their sons fall to the dark side?!

Please explain to me why Leia doesn't leave her daughter in the care of Tekka then but instead with Unkar Plutt?! This is a bizarre theory. Leia was devastated that she lost her son and acknowledged that sending him away was a mistake!

Rey tells bb8 that she is waiting for her family and one day they will be back. Thus the whomever to Rey, right or wrong, is her family! And that is all Maz senses - what Rey feels deep down. So Maz is telling Rey that her family is never coming back whilst daddy is upstairs.

I think the wow effect is not going to be who are Rey's parents. Trying to top Vader's "I'm your father" would be a mistake, because you will never top that. They are very careful on that: they have already make a villain (Kylo Ren) that is inferior to him (and that's his grace).

Whether a Solo or a Skywalker (sorry, I don't believe she's a random) IMO the wow effect will be what exactly happened between Luke, Ben and Rey in the past. Imagine in TLJ, for instance, Luke in front of Kylo, about to fight, and Kylo tells him "You will fall as your dear wife did". This kind of stuff is what could make the next films dramatic.

It would imply that a good amount of the movie will be dedicated to flashbacks ... This isn't the way you make a story go forward.

There's a reason for her well spoken English accent too, right? Let's do more deducting! Who has these accents in the SW universe? I was randomly thinking she could be of Tarkin lineage, even though I don't know what happened to that family. The accent has got to be a clue...

Well, except, as we've seen with AOTC and TESB - as well as most other second entries in a trilogy - this is the time at which we will more than likely slow down, seeing our characters grow and develop, and react to the situations and events that unfold around them.

What we had in TFA regarding flashbacks was, as I see it, a tease as to the revelations that will be made in VIII and IX, whether it be the identity of Rey's parents (?), the destruction of Luke's academy - and more importantly to the story, perhaps, the why behind its destruction - or what caused Kylo to turn. I think that Luke telling Rey to "breathe. Just breathe" in the trailer is actually him trying to aid in the recovery of her memories regarding the Forceback vision from TFA, in an attempt to help her make sense of it all.

I agree with @perrymoon (great post btw): the reveal of Rey's parents more than likely isn't going to be one of the big twists in this movie, but could be a catalyst for more questions and hints to the past. She's a Skywalker? Who's the mother, and what happened to her? etc.

I don't understand why people are that obsessed by Rey's parents.

I think people are searching where there is nothing to find which is the best way for Disney to keep their story secret.

That's where I agree: someone recently suggested that, as we're on these forums, we're already 100% likely going to see these films and keep up to date with much of the subsidiary material, and such an attachment to the franchise could mean we come up with the most bizarre theories possible, meaning that we don't see the forest through the trees.

The reveal of Rey's parents is likely going to be something that can be explained easily in a film, meaning we've likely already gone over her parents in this thread before without realising, whilst making sense for the saga as a whole, and from the perspective of a casual fan. Sure, there will likely be some flashback sequences to explain what happened to us all, but some of the more likely options (Skywalker, (I don't believe this is likely at all, but it's much more so than the alternatives) Solo) simply make much more sense than alternatives (Kenobi, random, etc.).

Filoni said it best himself this past weekend at SWCO (paraphrasing here): we have to treat every story as if it's the first someone would encounter from the franchise, and we can't expect everyone to have watched all of the past films or TV series, or have read all of the comics or books, etc.

Exposition and long periods of dialogue is one of the fatal flaws of the PT (and this from someone who loves them for what they are): I'm positive that LFL will try to steer clear of having substantially more, vital information as to who Rey's parents are revealed in other media, whether a film, book, TV series, or otherwise.

For example, from a casual fan's point of view, Kenobi has been on Tatooine watching over Luke since the end of ROTS (and this is precisely the way in which Lucas set it up to be). Sure, as hardcore fans we may know a bit more about what he did during this time, but let's not go expecting the character to do a U-turn and have a child during a standalone film, who then goes off and has another child who just so happens to be Rey.

JJ has stated that Rian suggested changes and they accommodated his requests where they could.

We've discussed this quite a bit. Generally speaking her accent is more imperial and reflective of the core worlds. Daisy received coaching on her accent as well. There seems to be deliberate reason they gave her that accent.

I think we should push Lors San Tekka a little bit more.

What is this guy doing in Jakku?

    1. There's literally nothing in Jakku: BUT REY.

Therefore it's difficult to believe that San Tekka doesn't know Rey is in Jakku.

    2. He's a "force believer".
    3. He knows Luke well.
    4. He knows Ben well.
    5. He has a damn piece of a puzzle, the only damn piece that R2, Luke's droide, misses!

Therefore it's difficult to imagine that it isn't Luke who actually gave him such piece.

Therefore it's difficult to believe that Luke doesn't know who Rey is.

It could even be that San Tekka is Rey's grandpa (if Luke is the father).

By the way, about Rey's accent: if she's been alone learning languages from an AT-AT computer, probably he got the imperial accent there.

You raise a good point - for most of the people in the Galaxy Jakku is a hole, meaning that it is a great place to hide, if someone wants to remain unfound. Lor San Tekka owned the only piece of information that could have lead to Luke Skywalker, the only living Jedi, what made this information of a great value. Since he didn't want to be found, he moved himself to the middle of nowhere. I know it's compelling to think that EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED but so far based of what we know Lor was on Jakku because he considered it to be a great hiding spot.

I'm sure he's there just to hide. But if he knows Luke, and he knows Kylo, I don't think is a coincidence that Rey was hidden in the same planet than him. I mean "everything is connected" but come on: Rey, the Falcon and Luke's friend in a death planet is like too much isn't it? In the OT Obi and Luke where in the same planet for a reason, and R2D2 was seeking ObiWan. This is how they all ffound each other.

I can't find the source so I could be wrong, but it seems like when we've discussed the before we found out that there's no connection between LST and Rey. He doesn't know she's on Jakku or know who she is...

Unless Rey's family arrived on Jakku first and left the map there which Tekka found?

It strikes me that Rey has been on Jakku for 15years prior to tfa. And it also seems likely hat Tekka finds the map much closer to the events of tfa than this. Possibly even within the year/month.

What's more, if Tekka is looking over Rey, why on earth would he leave her in the hands of Plutt? It makes no sense. Rey survived day by day in that environment.

My feeling is that Rey has dark origins that connects to ahch to. Her parents had a map to that planet which ended up on Jakku. Her parents then had to leave her there or thought she was dead and left or she was taken from her parent at some stage and ditched there. Anyway, something happens that means she is left on Jakku and the map is there too (maybe smuggled in a ship or traded in for something. Her parents disappear and are potentially killed. Maybe even by Luke who discovers these are servants of the Empire looking to destroy the secrets of he fjt. Later in stuff goes down with Ren and Luke disappears - perhaps thinking he knows the au to the fjt (which Ren also wants to find so he can obliterate the ways of the Jedi). Tekka retires to Jakku because he discovers through his contacts that a map could be found there that could help him find the fjt and Luke. Eventually he does and the force of course influences events to bring Rey into the fold because of her special, dark side origin, talents.

Pretty good one! I like the idea that Rey is connected to the map rather than San Tekka.

Yeah, I think the LST theory probably doesn't hold water but it was good place to investigate given how far below the radar his character has flown. Lor San Tekka would have been my last guess as having anything to do with Rey.

But based on Daisy Ridley's comments, I am more confident that while we don't know who Daisy's parents are, we know who they aren't (the Solos or the Skywalkers). And initially I was thinking that all the allusions to a Skywalker lineage (especially Maz's dialogue) should've sealed the deal. Like why would a light saber that belonged to Anakin and Luke call out to Rey if she wasn't Luke's daughter? But it's the force we talking about here, that's the only thing central to all the Franchise vehicles (Movies, comics, animated series) not ancestral power. It's not necessarily the lineage that they have in common, it's their role in reaching Balance in the Force. (I suppose the two aren't mutually exclusive but truthfully she doesn't have to be Luke's daughter for this story line to hold up). Maybe they'll just do it as a fan service (which wouldn't bother me) they'll just need to explain why (which could be he was just trying to protect her).

A lot of parentheticals there but you get the picture LOL
