Another important piece on Lor San Tekka: Max Von Sidow is credited in TLJ. His character is dead, therefore he must appear in Rey's force back. Therefore if they weren't related in any matter he wouldn't be in TLJ

ugh, quit the hair style crap! honestly, one of the worst arguments. Force powers may or may not be applicable, but hair? c'mon!

@perrymoon where did you see that MVS is credited in TLJ? i didn't realize that was the case!

Just like Nuke Skywalker is. :p IMDB until the film's premiere is a poor source of film scoops. Granted, he may appear in a flashback sequence regarding the destruction of Luke's Jedi school, but nothing more.

    Good question

I just looked for it and didn't find it, but I am convinced I saw it in an announcement in the official site when they started production, and thought "he's back too?? How?"

Anybody remembers this or I am crazy? It was accompained of a black and white photo of thw casting in a stage (probably taken from TFA event in December). Imdb doesn't cast him either.

@master_shaitan, I know the thread has moved on, but just to tie up a loose end...
The main reason I questioned your Rey Imperial theory as it related to lowly stormtroopers rather than Imperial higher-ups was this:

This was in response to my suggestion that Luke's motivations after ROTJ would have changed and focused more on Jedi lore rather than mopping up the Imperial remnants. You only mentioned killing stormtroopers in the context of suggesting Luke could have killed Rey's parents. Unless you have some information to suggest that Luke WAS more involved in hunting down Imperial higher-ups after ROTJ? I would be more than happy to hear it.

Otherwise, my thought still remains that unless he just happened across them in his quest for Jedi lore, I don't think Luke was actively engaged in the battles with the Imperial remnant. And if Rey comes from some Imperial origin, she had better be related to someone important, otherwise it is rather deflating, at least for me as a fan.

I find @Paladinryan's ideas about the hidden Solo daughter to be pretty compelling.

Quite the contrary, as we all tend to do (looking through the prism of our own prejudices and desires), I believe everything that has come out from SWCC (including the teaser) to be just as supportive of Rey Skywalker or Rey Solo, if not more so. The acceptance of change you reference is properly placed in "the end of the (PT era) Jedi." :p

Opinion. Nothing more. And also guided by your own bias. ;)

The poll is insignificant compared to the power of the Force.

But you are forgetting who Rey actually found at the end... Ben Solo... Leia... and finally, Luke.

    Well thought out.

At the end of the day, we all have our own opinions on who Rey should be. If I have said it once, I have said it a million times, TPTB are purposely leaving any origin possible and providing little tidbits that are suggestive of each of the possibilities... Rey Skywalker, Rey Solo, Rey Kenobi, Rey Palpatine, Rey Random Imperial... because it is the free hype engine they utilize to keep interest high.

... and they are good at what they do.

I've just read some info on starwars.wikia (is this real) that Lor San Tekka was an explorer and a member of the Church of the Force which is the group of people at the beginning of TFW. It mentiones that he searched for Jedi lore. Ancient Jedi lore that the Empire was trying to hide from him, and also helped Luke Skywalker in his own search for Jedi lore. Another interesting mention is that he lived for two years with the Crèche (a culture of individuals) on the planet Ovanis. Now check this out:

"We are the Crèche. This egg is our charge, our purpose, our salvation. We protect and nurture it, and in return we bathe in its radiance. Its presence guides our lives. It holds salvation itself—the savior unborn. Someday the egg will hatch, and we, or our descendants, shall receive our reward for keeping it safe these many generations.
    ~ A Crèche elder"

So it is possible that LST brought Rey to Jakku and that she has met him before, at a younger age, when she learned about the Jedi "myth" from the members of the Church of the Force.

And to conclude: No parents, she was always an Egg.

Afraid I'm on holiday and unable to reply in full to this. But two quick points:

    1. The reference to Luke killing storm troopers was in response to you saying he would be a pacifist and would unlikely kill Rey's parents, whoever they are. I simply pointed it out that post rotj he was killing people.

    2. Re Daisy saying Rey finding her family: you skipped the part where I said that she said both her and Finn find their family. Clearly Finn does not. Thus she is saying that they both see each other and he legacy characters as their surrogate family.

    One more for luck...

    3. I am not biased. I hoped for Rey Solo pre-tfa but that film made it nigh on impossible. Luke being dad is far more possible but for me goes against his character. Of course Hamill said that RJ wrote stuff that for Mark wasn't right - so you can take that how you like! However this notion that she is a Solo and was secretly hidden or lost by them is paper thin. It would require an explanation beyond anything I have seen anyone present over these 400 odd pages.

    @DarthPilkington

It's not just about the hair - it's her age, being an orphan, having great force power and a connection to the Skywalker legacy saber. Combined with having he same hairstyle from when she was 5 and it being canon that Leia senses people's deaths etc, it's just another piece of evidence that suggests it unlikely she is a Solo as she would've been recognised.

Accents aren't inherited they are completely environmental. A child learns how to speak and their native language from their parents, extended family, family friends and frequent caretakers. As they grow they develop their accent or speech patterns from the same environment. Rey, on the other hand, was abandoned on Jakku at the age of five so would only have developed the first two from her real family. The fact is that an American girl was cast to play young Rey indicating the accent she speaks with now is not the one she was born into. I know there is an argument that young Rey doesn't say enough to know if she is speaking in an American accent or a British one but, if we are going to say the Daisy being coached to speak in a posh British accent means something then it also must mean something that they chose to cast an American girl rather than a British girl to play young Rey. They are both production decisions that could have story implications. Either they both are potentially relevant to the story or neither are. It can't be one or the other since both are about Rey.

If both are relevant than the only logical conclusion is that Rey spoke with an American accent when she arrived on Jakku and learned/developed her British accent while growing up on Jakku. Rey only had two sources of audio communication while on Jakku. Plutt, who did speak with a bit of a British accent and the computer she salvaged and used to educate herself including learning many other languages. That computer would have spoken with the posh British accent and, given she spent virtually all of her spare time on that computer while growing up making it the biggest influence on her speech patterns/accent in her entire life, that computer would be the most likely source of her accent not long dead imperials or Jedi's that she never met.

Again, no one knows she is an orphan and only BB-8 knows she is waiting for her family. All anyone knows is that she wants to return to Jakku. Even Maz doesn't know. Maz only senses that she is waiting for something or someone but doesn't know what, who or why. I also don't remember anyone asking her age or Rey ever volunteering that information. We also don't know who gave her the hairstyle she had when she was abandoned at 5yrs old so we can't know for sure if it's something her real family would recognize or not. Rey keeping it because she thinks her family would recognize her isn't evidence for it either as the only thing Rey knows about her real family is the voice she dreams about every night and also heard in the Forceback telling her they will come back for her. I concur with @Dark Toilet and hope you are enjoying your holiday!:)

Okay cool lol. I haven't read the Aftermath novel either, but some Imperial person visits Maz's Castle in the story and also a New Republic person is there. Could these two persons be of parentage, since they had a significant others in the story? The castle is on ancient battle grounds, so it could be an area where the Force is sensitive. Maz is confirmed Force-sensitive. If Rey's bloodline is from this area, that would explain how she is a Force-user.

It could be Maz's Pirate ship that leaves Rey on Jakku, clarifying what she says about them "not coming back".

so Maz left Rey on Jakku? why does she ask Han who the girl is then? maybe she forgot who Rey was, despite remembering all sorts of different eyes?

or was it just someone using Maz's ship? seems like a weird connection...

I don't know, maybe she gathered many infants together and dotted them around the galaxy when she felt the Force was off balance. Or someone else using the ship. If Rey is from that area, it could pave a new storyline for her parentage/ancestors. They could then do a prehistory prequel about the Jedi and Sith war, including the Castle.

This is a fantasy series so we can probably throw all the "how accents are formed" out the window. What we do know is that the producers of the film deliberately gave Rey's character a core world accent. It was a deliberate choice. Maybe something changed while they were making the film and they'll blame it on an AT AT computer.

I believe the actress has been confirmed for The Last Jedi. Rian Johnson shared a photo of Maz a few months. ago.

Star Wars is a science fiction/fantasy series and not just strictly a fantasy series and even in fantasy worlds most sociological and anthropological norms are adhered to and accents fall squarely into those categories. Even in the GFFA the norms for accent development is adhered to or there wouldn't be any 'Core world accent' versus 'Rim world accent' as a means to determine a character's origins. Rey's accent is out of place for a rim world like Jakku but she has spent most of her life there. It was also a deliberate choice by the producers to cast an American girl as young Rey and an American girl playing young Rey indicates she likely didn't possess a core world accent before she arrived on Jakku and, therefore, must have developed it on Jakku. The only option for that would be the computer she salvage from a ship wreck that likely would have talked with a core world accent and would have been the biggest language and speech influence in her life.

A few things to comment on
    1. Just because people on social media are saying they here "I love you" on social media doesn't make it so. Many people are hearing many different things that are likely influenced by what they want to hear. I know personally I have heard "help me Obi Wan". I have listened to it numerous times and I have not heard anything different. When I first heard the "I love you" theory, I purposely went back to see if I could here it and I still could not. It seems to me most people are hearing "help me Obi Wan"

    2. For clarification, Ben did not likely turn at a
young age. He may have been taken to
train with Luke then but he did not go dark
then. In Bloodline, 6 years before TFA Ben
is 24 and still off with Luke somewhere.
Ben may have been showing some dark
tendencies at a young age but it appears
he did not turn until much later

The sheer size of this thread is amazing. Awesome discussions.

If Rey turns out to be a "nobody", then it's the BIGGEST "hahaha screw you" to fans in the history of cinema. If they try and cop out with a "we told you she was nobody", I'm calling BS. They could have easily added ONE LINE to make her 100% a random. They could have added a scene in the force back where she sees her parents die. A million other ways they could have ended this, but they didn't. If it turns out this was just JJ and his damn mystery box, I'm burning my LOST box set.

I'll take her being a damn spawn of the light side of the force over her being a "nobody".

Ok, rant over thanks for listening.

I wouldn't draw a conclusion from the casting of a one second flashback. It was probably a matter of convenience.
I didn't hear the girl speak enough to draw any real conclusions about her accent.

I think we've already discussed this topic... not sure why you're arguing with me again. I just was answering the question about the accent. There's not much here to go on, but the producers chose to give Rey a core world accent for a reason.
