Not only is it probable and highly likely that Rey is Luke daughter but I also believe she has a twin brother.

Lucas did not leave her legacy undefined. It was explicit. What I don't know is whether or not Lucasfilm itself made alterations to Rey's legacy after George stepped away completely.

There's simply too many politics and PR bull clouding the real message.

Either way, by the time Abrams was involved Lucasfilm had determined Rey's lineage, it's more a question of if that lineage was George's idea or changed afterward.

Rey's legacy determines the story of the entire trilogy. If they changed it, then they're not sticking with George's vision like they said they are.

I think what Lucas has in his treatments is some facts we will not learn for a while. It going to be interesting to see what his idea was and how much Lucasfilm kept and what they changed or even dropped. At the very least, we not know until after the ST is done. Probably be a while after it is done too but I think folks like Pablo will be more open to letting people know what was specific about his plans other than the central characters were teenagers.

I agree, which is why I'm apprehensive about this direction for the sequel trilogy.

My (uninformed) guess is it came down to whether she was a Solo or Skywalker. The Jedi Killer was not originally Han and Leia's son and I doubt they were childless at any point.

Edit: After the director resignation/firing from Han Solo, now we're hearing something completely different about how involved KK is in the movies:

Is it possible that the Story Group told Arndt & latter JJ & LK that Rey is a ***** & that's what you have to work with.......

But latter JJ says "RJ haves this great idea about Rey! Let's give the fans false clues & instead make Rey a ******! We'll top TESB's reveal!"

And the Story Group's like "Brillant!"

    Thoughts?

It's possible, but I doubt the Story Group would be 100% behind that.

She learned that name from Kylo's mind. She didn't have to know who Vader was before.

While we are talking.... the ST is alredy done.
So not only there's no need but no room to let things open.
8 is done, 9 is wrote (re-wrote really, becasue of Carrie).

Whit that beaing said, this is dated december 2015
    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/inside-star-wars-writers-room-846856

To me, they knew from the beginnin who Rey is, what this ST is and how it has to "complete" the saga.
The directors have been chosen accordingly to this idea, whatever it is.
They chose those ones who - they believed - can embrace "that" story and... improve it.
    Also dated december 2015 http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...star-wars-lawrence-kasdan-20151206-story.html

This is the freedom Rian was talking about.
And I personally believe that it was his pride, as a young director, speaking without thinking all the things we are thinking...
Imagine to be offered of a job like this, in a franchise like this, imagine you only did a couple of indie movies...
you'll think they are not going to give you "any" freedom.
And Rian is also someone who's "visual" style is not an usual one.

But if he was free to tell "that" story the way he wanted to, free to add something that felt right for him and LF, if he was free to use the camera as he wanted to.... he felt free and grateful.
So much so he believed it would have been nice to speak about his freedom in the very first big interview about the movie

Honestly, when you read the things he (and Pablo) said later on Twitter, things look quite different... less "wild"

Pablo has been very emphatic that the claim they threw out everything from Lucas isn't true and they're sticking with the spirit of his treatment.

Edit: Way too used to the reddit link format.

Spirit and Vision are two different things - Vision (at least I normally hear them used) is more specific while spirit..........is pretty vague.

And Lucas's comments on it - “They wanted to do a retro movie. I don’t like that,” he said. “They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway, but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that any more, and all I would do is muck everything up. And so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’” - Doesn't sound like they are sticking to his "vision" of the ST

Lucas made all those comments before he ever saw the movie. Kennedy and Abrams said they tried to get Lucas involved in seeing the movie early but he always refused.

First - article is dated after the movie came out
Second - who cares? It doesn't matter when he saw the movie and made the statements, the point still stands - his vision was X, and their was a "retro" direction.

George Lucas: “I want to clarify my interview on the Charlie Rose Show. It was for the Kennedy Center Honors and conducted prior to the premiere of the film. I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy [in the 'retro' interview] and for that I apologize. I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership. Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise. I rarely go out with statements to clarify my feelings but I feel it is important to make it clear that I am thrilled that Disney has the franchise and is moving it in such exciting directions in film, television and the parks. Most of all I’m blown away with the record breaking blockbuster success of the new movie and am very proud of JJ and Kathy.” (December 31, 2015)

That was him talking about his use of hte term white slavery. He didn't retract his statements about TFA being a retro movie and that he'd have gone in a different direction.

Also from the link I provided (reading for the win!) - Speaking to US television talk-show host and journalist Charlie Rose, Lucas quipped that he had sold his “kids … to the white slavers that take these things”..........
Lucas later apologised for criticising Disney, the studio behind the new film. In a statement issued late on Thursday, Lucas says he misspoke and used a “very inappropriate analogy”.

The film-maker, who oversaw both the groundbreaking original Star Wars trilogy, which hit cinemas between 1977 and 1983, and the much-maligned 1999-2005 prequel trilogy, confirmed to Rose on his PBS show that aired on 24 December that Disney had not wanted his involvement in the new instalment.

“They wanted to do a retro movie. I don’t like that,” he said. “They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway, but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that any more, and all I would do is muck everything up. And so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’”"

Even if he did appologize for the retro and different direction comments - he still made them, its how he feels. He wouldn't have made TFA the love letter to the OT that it was, and by changing that how do characters like Rey, Finn and Kylo change?

and if you need more evidence - https://www.polygon.com/2015/5/9/8577579/lucas-star-wars-teenagers
But at some point after that, Lucasfilm president Kennedy and Disney "decided they should consider other options," J.J. Abrams, the director of the upcoming movie Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, told Vanity Fair. For example, Lucasfilm told the publication that that Lucas' treatments centered around teenagers.

The saga of the movie's shifting storytellers didn't give any insight into the story, though. That didn't happen until George Lucas started talking about it. Like his treatments, The Force Awakens still takes place after Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. It will still include the principal cast from the original trilogy, actors Lucas recruited prior to the sale. But whatever the story of The Force Awakens and the numbered sequels that follow, they won't be based entirely on his treatments.

"The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn't really want to do those,"
he told Cinema Blend earlier this year. "So they made up their own. So it's not the ones that I originally wrote."

This idea that the ST is based on Lucas's notes or stories or still "his vision" of star wars or something like that is a myth.

His different direction would have been new spaceships and planets and less of a blatant homage to his self in the way that Episode I was to Episode IV. His plan was also to market the new Skywalker children before VII came out going by his comments about how it's not a secret. Instead Lucasfilm is taking the approach of one at a time and not revealing it in the marketing ahead of release.

Oh really? You've spoken to Lucas about the scope of the change have you? You're just making up what the difference would be in a way that backs up your mythical version of these events.
