Not at hand and I'm too lazy to dig out the quotes...

    But we have had:

    • Daisy Ridley saying she knew who her parents were all along and that who they were wasn't important. She also said that it was JJ Abrams who told her during filming TFA and that "nothing changed".
    • JJ saying that Rey's parents were not in Episode VII (admittedly backtracking but I think we can all agree now he slipped up).
    • RJ and JJ admitting they discussed Rey's parentage (not that RJ wasn't free to go off in whatever direction he wanted). And this works in conjunction with:
    • JJ saying, "I really feel like the assumption that any character needs to have inherited a certain number of midi-chlorians or needs to be part of a bloodline, it’s not that I don’t believe that as part of the canon, I’m just saying that at 11 years old, that wasn’t where my heart was".
Now, when you consider all that and the endless discussions within this thread that explain why it wouldn't have really added up for Luke to be Rey's dad, I think that amounts to enough "evidence" to be confident in accepting this as the narrative behind what happened.

I'm with Pablo on this. It's great seeing Han but he dominated TFA when he was in it.

Imagine the alternative. Luke is a prime Jedi master. No conflict. Very powerful. Fights for the Resistance. What is the point in Rey? Where is the tension when the hero is God-like? Isn't having another infallible, straight, Jedi master a bit dull? The problem is people have played too many computer games and read too many EU books with super-Luke in them. When it comes to actually making a decent film, that character doesn't work. With Luke in TLJ, you have a character arc, reasons why we need a new hero and new story and then, in the end, the moment of wonder from Luke that we've waited 30 years for.

Then you're a prisoner of your own misguided expectations. What does it matter that they didn't all have a bunch of kids? This is still very much about the Skywalker legacy. Why is the bloodline itself so damned important to people? Isn't Kylo Ren, aka Darth Vader fanboy and grandson, enough?

There's so many restricting parts of the lore that have been set up it's no wonder Lucasfilm wants to produce something outside of this saga.

    - the rule of 2 for the Sith
    - Jedi are not supposed to have children

The list goes on and on.

They've also done a couple of things in the ST to open up more possibilities for the future:

    - Introducing the UR which seems to be a place disconnected from the goings on within the known GFFA.
    - The Rey/Ren darkness rises thing. It provides a new means to provide central characters with extraordinary power that doesn't require rehashing the chosen one thing or linking them to the Skywalker bloodline.
    - The possibilities of other powerful force users from beyond the known galaxy (though we do further explanation of this in my view).
    - New Force powers.

I can't wait to see what RJ and those GoT guys come up with.

Luke dreams of his life on Tatooine if he hadn't become a Jedi. Nothing really game changing.

Except that Jedi already broke Jedi code even by dreaming to have a wife.

I guess I'm confused. I didn't know this was a matter of debate.

I'd say that if the director doing it couldn't do it the oppinion of someone who isn't a director doing it counts for less, wouldn't you?

As for Mark Hamill's disagreement, he got over it, and seems pleased with final product. He's gone out to counter those who quote him to detract from the movie. I suggest we give that a rest.

For crying out loud, I am just expressing my opinion. I am glad if you found it profound, I just thought it was a solid film but not the best star wars film. To Me, To Me, it had a lot of story telling problems but I also like the message of the film. I just had a big problem with its execution.

And you can't fault anyone for disagreeing with your opinion, and bringing up solid arguments against it.

    Dear child.
    I see your eyes.
    You already know the truth.
Whomever you’re waiting for on Jakku…
