This would fix a lot of SW problems. Would explain attachment to Skywalker Saber. Would explain the vision of Luke and Vader fight. Would make her Luke’s “kid’? Without making Luke a bad father or bad Jedi. Would make her a Nobody with no Parents. Would explain the cave screen where we see hundreds of Rey while she was looking for answers to her origins. Would leave us with a Skywalker descendent that was pure like Luke and never evil. Would explain her power, maybe even her abilities without training?

    Solve so many problems.

TFA's original opening involved Luke's hand flying through space.. there must be some significance (unless the plot point was thrown out)

My biggest issue with this (besides it being a big stretch of the imagination) is that it undercuts what seems to be the message of the sequel trilogy - that lineage and birthright don't matter, instead the choices you make are what turn you into a hero or a villain.

Rey was born a nobody and will be called a Skywalker because of her heroic actions. Ben was born with the name and rejected it, fell to the dark side and lost everything because he assumed his grandfather's legacy meant the world was his for the taking. I don't see how her being a clone ties into that message or changes it in a positive way.

I personally don't want Rey to be a Skywalker, but if so, I think this is probably the wrong way to do it.

Anakin lost an arm in AOTC (that didn't apparently fall into lava like ROTS), why not his clone, then?

The concept just seems muddy and thrown together, imo.

Interesting theory but if she was a clone then she would be a he with sandy blonde hair I think.

It would explain a lot of things, but at this point I think there are so many expectations after TLJ that it would further split the fandom.

Other options would be clone of Anakin or Shmi, but all have the same issue.

In the end, the Skywalker story should be over after IX, so I don't think she'll be a Skywalker unless she dies (along with Ben). Then again, what do I know?

I know there's a technical argument to be made that a clone doesn't have to be 100% identical, but a clone of Luke that's a female that looks nothing like Luke would make me cringe. Rey's origin is a bit of an obsession I understand, but she doesn't need to be connected to Luke.

I mean...maybe, but I really hope not. I do want Rey's parentage to be explained, and I Kylo to have lied to her, and I kind of want her to be a Skywalker (and I really am leaning waaaaay away from the honorary Skywalker name theory). But to be from cloning would just make me cringe. It's too Star Trek. I know we had Clones in the PT, but that was different, and had a purpose. It was the evil actions of an evil emperor to manipulate himself into power, and while WE grew to love the clones, they were created for them to be cannon fodder, so cloning made sense. This just wouldn't make sense....

Definitely would split the fandom, even more than TLJ...She does look a little like Shmi though....

I don't like that idea of clone, I rather prefer the idea of reincarnation.

    REY is ANAKIN
. Please understand me : I don't mean Rey is blood-related to Anakin. She is neither her grand-daughter, nor she is her rear-grand-niece, nor she gets anything related by bloodline to Shmi's son. Both are born and have lived on different planets, at different eras, there is no direct link between them.

My take is : REY is a reincarnation of ANAKIN.
Remember how was born ANAKIN : he comes from nowhere and was created by the Force, in response to the dark deeds of both PLAGUEIS and SIDIOUS.
"Darkness rises... and light to meet it" : we all assumed these words, when we heared them in the episode 8 trailer, were from SNOKE and aimed at KYLO REN... but no! These two words just synthesize these two opposing forces who, from the beginning, fight each other all the whole Star Wars tales long : good vs evil, light vs darkness, empathy vs brutality.

The rise of Skywalker does not mean ANAKIN waking up once more after a nap, and yawning a little bit before taking his lightsaber and crushing some villains :) it's neither ANAKIN's soul rising to the sky, nor it is his buried bones extracted from the ground.
The rise of Skywalker is globally this kind of energy, that started with ANAKIN's birth, was continued with his son LUKE, perpetuates today in REY, and tomorrow very likely will survive in BROOM BOY.
The rise of Skywalker is when "nobodies", without parents nor established ancestry, beings that come from nowhere, are invested with the mission to find the force inside themselves, and go start the war against the evil. ANAKIN was a nobody ; so was LUKE at least at the beginning of episode 4 ; REY is a nobody ; BROOM BOY is a nobody. And even if she lived in a Palace inside a loving family, so was LEIA.

"becoming a Skywalker" means nothing but quitting his former life, taking up arms, finding an ideal and fighting for it.

When one finds enough power inside oneself to fight for his ideal... then... one feels "the rise of Skywalker" inside oneself.

This is not how cloning works! ;D

It is already explained. The force chose her to wield it.

It could be a "memory" of the saber, so why would "Clone Rey" explain this?

The meaning of this scene is, that she doesn't need her parents to be someone. Almost her whole life she was alone and functioned as her own parents.

Power or abilities can't be cloned though.

Problems which aren't even problems IMO.

On this topic, I was a bit suspicious about the way TLJ ended. If the story of this trilogy really is that anyone can be a jedi I don't understand what the need was to re-emphasise that point with broom boy at the end. To me, it looked like they knew full well that the next film will undermine that point so were cashing their chips in early.

You could make a case for it. But in the overall story aspect of it, It wouldn't make sense. To me it's a theory that just wants to explain that Rey is not a nobody. And she may be somebody and I may be wrong. They could maker her a clone, but I doubt it.

The original Forceback scene was meant show path of the lightsaber and the opening (cringe worthy in my opinion and glad it was scrapped) was showing how the events started. The hand and lightsaber fall to a planet. Then in the flashback scene if I remember correctly went something like this:
    Person picks up saber
Lights saber and catches grass on fire
    Wealthy man buys the saber
The clan use the saber to fight the seven (presumably Kylo and the Knights of Ren)
The seven defeat the clan (this is what we see in TFA with the KOR in the rain, however since the Forceback was changed it could have another meaning now)
Maz takes steals the lightsaber from the battlefield (this was how she originally gets the saber)

So the hand and saber floating through space concept was supposed to be about the lightsaber and not the hand. It was scrapped and in the process some of what had happened in Maz’s Castle was changed too

As far as the clone theory, I’m not a fan of it. Too much to try to explain. So far in SW when we have had clones they have been exact copies. Now trying to explain how a clone of Luke has become a female who in no way resembles him is a stretch

The main reason I don’t think this idea is likely is because they did this storyline quite memorably in Doctor Who (Series 4, episode 12-13), so with an idea quite as prominent as this, people would automatically assume it had been ripped off from there.

I'm surprised that so many people suggest this theory with a straight face.

This is like Jar Jar = Snoke levels of ridiculous. There is literally 0% chance Rey is a Luke clone.
