I personally thought that Solo was a fun movie but, among all the reasons that try to explain why the movie isn't a box-office smash (May release, TLJ, Star Wars fatigue, the movie itself), Harrison Ford is often mentioned. Alden Ehrenreich seems like a great guy but for many people he ain't Han Solo.

There are actually quite a few fans doing trailer versions with Ford on Youtube, from recuts to futuristic deep learning with mixed results like this one:

So the question is: do you think the presence of Harrison Ford, here and now in 2018, would have improved the movie and/or its box office?

Yes, a brief cameo, with appropriate amounts of make up to make him look different and perhaps a wig, as Han Solo's dying old father (or mother!) who wishes his only son to not waste his life trapped on Corellia like his old father had, but instead to "follow his dreams", or some other such sentiment. Then he snuffs it.

I was really, really hoping that somehow there might be some footage of Ford, Fischer, and Hamill all together as their characters sort of an epilogue to the film (I know that due to when that would've needed to have been filmed, that was pretty unlikely).

If we just got to see those three together, even if it was some otherwise not particularly noteworthy moment... it could've been one of the greatest things we've seen on screen in a long time.

i was hoping for a framework that might include Harrison Ford (telling the story to little Ben or laughing about it with Billy Dee as a couple of old farts), but i'm okay without it.

i had nothing but fear and trepidation going in, but Erenreich did a great job; people need to give him a chance.

I don't care about the box office.
And I think Aldrin did a good job as Han Solo. Also I dont think Ford would like to appear in any other SW movie again. In ROTJ he asked to kill Han Solo in the destruction of the second Death Star....

Harrison Ford wasn't needed in a film about the younger days of Han Solo. And his Han was killed off in "The Force Awakens"? Why are people so narrow-minded? If a person is going to condemn a movie or an actor's performance . . . why not see it first before judging it? More and more, the human race makes it easier for me to wish that I wasn't a human being in the first damn place.

And by the way, this wasn't about Harrison Ford's lack of presence in "Solo". This was about a lot of fans being pissed off about "The Last Jedi" and they want Disney and especially Kathleen Kennedy to pay for it. A lot of people have already made up their minds that they were going to boycott "Solo" because of the media coverage over the film's production and especially "The Last Jedi".

No, and your poll is screwed up.
My answer has nothing to do with Ford's age.
He did not want to be in it.
He did not want to help out at all; he changed that after Howard came on.

He didn't hate the notion of a Solo film. He simply doesn't believe he belongs anywhere near it because it's not his moment.

He did not go to the premiere and his stated reason was that he didn't want to take the attention away from Aldrin.

I don't care about these views. Every Star Wars has someone picking on something.

I think Jack Gleeson was quite right when he said that, to some extent, we, as a society, seem to adore and idolize greatness because we love to tear it down and watch it fall; that it, in some way, feels like an ownership of that greatness through its destruction.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

No but no nasty snark or agism required.

I just don't think it would add value and might actually just work as a rub the nose into it level reminder that Han Solo will not be played by Harrison Ford for some.

I think Alden is a great Han Solo and would like to see him continue in the role. He wasn't doing a Harrison Ford imitation, he was just doing Han.

The movie did fine without Harrison Ford. Alder Ehrenreich did a very good job with a role and should get enough credit for it.

I do enjoy that we seem to have a Bangleduck Crumblebat problem with Alden's name. :p

Though I voted 'no', I agree with this. OP, you might want to rephrase that option.

Ford wasn't needed in this film. It wasn't his time or place. He would just be a distraction.

I did worry that another actor in the role would be strange, but Alden got me in the first 5 minutes and, well, he is young Han Solo for me now. I am also happy that in spite of movie's bad financial results, this won't affect hes career unlike some other SW actors, because he was great in the role.

Why did you label it as a contest? Anyway, I do believe the casual audience (even the hardcore) couldn't see the movie without him. Regardless of quality that Alden had for the role.

About the label, it was a mix of being a newbie, a honest mistake and not knowing how to edit threads. Oops!

But lots of great opinions here!
