I don't think the prequels are as bad as people say they are. I don't think Episode 1 or 2 are great or horrible, just average, as both films have really good and really bad stuff IMO. I personally really like Revenge of the Sith, for the most part.

I tend to regard the Prequels like I do the Originals - flawed but still first-rate. Actually, that is how I feel about a lot of movies and TV series that are favorites of mine.

I've posted this before, but one of my favorite parts of the prequels is seeing the galaxy before it's ravaged by war. Say what you want about TPM, but it is pretty cool seeing Jedi work in a more traditional capacity, and seeing a galaxy relatively at peace.

That being said, I think this setting also caused some issues. Here's why-

TPM- Galaxy at peace, decade before Clone Wars

AotC- Eve of Clone Wars, tensions rising, opening shots

RotS- Tail end of Clone Wars, beginning of Empire and rise of Vader

The Clone Wars were a thing fans speculated about before the prequel trilogy had even started, so it's kind of a shame that the vast majority of them take place between the last two films. Sure, the animated shows were really cool and do a good job of filling in the blanks, but if we're strictly talking the PT, I think this was a missed opportunity. If I was able to make my own edit, I'd have the events of Episode One leading directly into the Clone Wars confrontation, and having Anakin's training be entirely during this period of war. This way, Episode Two could be entirely about the Clone Wars, and Episode Three could focus on the Vader stuff. Plus, giving Anakin a warlike training could be pretty instrumental in his development.

But still, either way, I'd want to see the galaxy before the wars like we do in TPM. Establishing the "ordinary world" is important in storytelling, and I think this establishment in the PT doesn't get the credit it deserves for showing what we lost by the time the Empire falls.

Doesn't the entirety of TCW take place in the year right before ROTS though? Skipping two years of the conflict? That's a pretty huge missed opportunity by itself, yeah? I wish we got to see that.

    I've never heard that.

I checked the timeline, and it looks like TCW is spread out over those years. The Crystophsis stuff happens not long after Geonosis, for instance.

Anakin: is knighted, made a General, gets that scar, grows out his hair, is assigned a Padawan, meets Ventress and Grievous - all right after AOTC? Wow, that's a really busy weekend.

It's entertaing. I grew up with the OT, and when the TPM came out, I liked it bit I was slightly dissappointed. More than a decade later I have grown to appreciate them better.

Must've had a Snickers to get all that done. :p

Anyway, just a couple of random dates, since there are a lot.

    Battle of Geonosis- 22 BBY

Relief of Crystophsis, Ahsoka assigned to Anakin, Battle of Teth (all the stuff from that movie)- 22 BBY

Cad Bane's Infiltration of the Jedi Temple- 21 BBY

    Mortis- 20 BBY

Satine's Death, takeover of Mandalore- 19 BBY

    Trial of Ahsoka- 19 BBY

So it's all kinda spaced out for the whole war- they just didn't do a great job aging Anakin :p

Did you see how wookiepedia worked out when the movie takes place? The source that's sited? It's pretty funny.

It’s from a tweet from Leland Chee that’s just a string of numbers (apparently) reflecting how many years each movie and show takes place after TPM. TCW is 10-13, thus the movie is 22 BBY and that makes it CANON. That made me laugh. He’s the ‘holocron keeper’, so who am I to argue?

Palpatine RE Anakin guarding Padme: So, they've finally given you an assignment. Your patience has paid off.

Fast forward a couple months: Anakin’s a Jedi Knight and General with command over a fleet. Awe, Star Wars :D

Yeah, I'm sure the science isn't exact. :p

Still, I think if anything, the Domino Squad storyline probably best demonstrates the scope of the series as far as time goes.

They are pretty bad. I argue each have moments where they shine, but each also have painful, painful moments to watch. Also the CGI is very dated and they often look terrible.

The best thing you can do with a prequel is to imbibe your favorite adult vice and then make fun of them with your friends as you watch them. ;)

    Wooden nickel opinion only.

TPM was the first Star Wars film I watched at the cinema when I was 15. I enjoyed it and only when re-watching as an adult did I truly see how annoying Jar Jar was. I don't remember going to see the others at the cinema so TPM couldn't have gripped me as much as I thought. I was an avid OT fan as a child and my sisters knew ROTJ word for word because I watched it that much. AOTC is a complete bore fest and the CGI has not aged well at all. It's easily my least favourite film. Thankfully ROTS helped redeem the PT films & it's generally a strong well written and enjoyable film expect the final scenes which HC acted awfully and Padme giving birth that seemed very rushed.

I know a guy who's originally from Afghanistan who thinks prequel Obi Wan is hilariously sexist because whenever he looks at people he is always touching and twirling his beard, which in central asian countries communicates sexual attraction.

Why can't people express their views using words like "I thought they were . . . " or "In my opinion . . . "? Why do they constantly express their views as if they were facts?

I guess there's always the implication that if someone is expressing their opinion then it is what they "thought" or is expressly their "opinion", but it does get to be problematic when someone pretends objectivity on stuff like this.
