I think we can all agree the story of the Skywalkers and their rise and fall on the galaxy, is the one of the greatest. But as episode 9 comes closer i keep thinking, is this the final chapter of the story?

Will Episode X follow the story of a young Jedi that has heard the distant legends, and almost forgotten myths of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and the days of the Empire and First Order?

Will we see another saga of Skywalkers saving and destroying the galaxy?

Will we go back in time and see the first Jedi wars or the rise of the Sith?

Personally, I believe episode IX will mark the end of the story, and characters we love, and honestly I think I am okay with that. I would love to see a story jump 50 -100 years into the future, the Jedi are alive and well, and so are the Sith! SITH VS JEDI!

    What do you reckon?

I have this theory which is in no way supported by information from Disney or Lucasfilm, only based on years of marketing experience and current trends.

Episode IX will effectively end the Skywalker Saga (for now). It will be the culmination of nine movies, three trilogies.

In 2027 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars, Disney and Lucasfilm will premiere the first film in a remake of the Skywalker Saga.

From a film making perspective it makes more sense to plan and execute 1-6 back-to-back in sequential order, but for cashing in on the anniversary and nostalgia it could be more poignant to start with A New Hope. However, at that point, nostalgia will be higher for the prequel era generation. So it is a toss-up.

Like I said, I have nothing to back this up, but it seems they have things pretty well planned out with RJ's new trilogy and stand alone films until right about time for the 50th Anniversary...remake time!

Not saying I support or want this, just saying, if I were running the studio. This would be my plan.

In my wildest dreams, we would have films focused on the things worse than the Empire that the Chiss are fighting against. With as much Thrawn screentime as they can possibly manage.

It feels right and makes sense that the Skywalker saga ends with the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy. There were three trilogies, all of which have been amazing so far, but—assuming Leia will have died in Episode IX and that JJ Abrams doesn’t change who Rey’s parents are—Kylo Ren is the only living Skywalker. Whether he is redeemed or not, I don’t see him surviving Episode IX, which, therefore, means the Skywalker family will conclude with him.

At some point, Disney/Lucasfilm really needs to realize that there’s a lot of potential for films outside of the Skywalker saga. Rogue One was hugely successful and I think, for the most part, fans are very optimistic and open to other Anthology films (the Han Solo one was not one many of us asked for, so that one may be a bit more polarizing). I really think they need to focus on Anthology films, TV series, books, video games, and other things outside of the Skywalker saga once Episode IX is released.

I think JJ Abrams and Daisy Ridley have both said that they view Episode IX as the conclusion of the Skywalker story, and I really think it should be. If they continue with these films, they’re inevitably going to ruin them at one point or another. But if you end them with Episode IX, you have this beautiful beginning, middle, and end that just works so much better and avoids ruining the legacy of the films that so many people love.

There’s enough potential for Anthology films that I think, if they space them out a little bit (one film a year is going to create franchise fatigue very quickly), they’ll be fine without the Skywalker films. There are still plenty of gaps in between films for them to tell more stories about the Skywalkers through other media, but I think Episode IX should be it in terms of the Skywalker saga.

If i were running the studio I would end the skywalker saga and turn my attention to the future including a new not so retro technology which will be more relatable for generations to come.lets move on.but of course it has to include the Jedi and Sith.

See, I would argue that the more you update technology in the films the higher risk you have for them becoming dated and less relatable. The retro/future tech places it in its own timeless period in my opinion. It is part of what I like about that universe.

Could Ben already have a child, or is that already ruled out by something in the books?

Maybe ben had a kid before he turned.

To be honest, watching TFA and TLJ back-to-back makes it like one movie. That's a good thing but I want more time with our heroes and villains. I think it would be really nice if they make Episode IX a satisfying end by making it a bit longer than usual ( 3 hours? ) or maybe like what some of you guys have proposed, an Episode X but that would kill the symmetry.

I think it will end with Episode IX but I want to see Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8 more and maybe they will make Episodes X - XII or a new trilogy ( just with these heroes ) in 2027, 2030, 2033 in honour of the 50th anniversaries of the originals.

The possibilities are endless but I really think the important aspect is how they differentiate the different sagas and trilogies. :)

Yes. Ben and Rey will have a baby, born from the dark and the light, whose birth will bring peace to the galaxy.

The Skywalker Saga must end. All good things must end. They won't make another movie after IX about Rey, Finn and Poe. Perhaps a standalone. The most likely thing we'll see is a live action tv series.

But really its a good thing the story nears completion and gets some closure. An endless story is no story.

The Skywalker saga effectively ended at 6. This new trilogy doesn't feel like a Skywalker thing to me. They should kill off everyone in 9, and then bury this abomination of a saga.

I think that the part of Star Wars history commonly referred to as the "Skywalker Saga" could very well wrap up as of Episode IX.

The truth is, though, the collective Skywalker influence and legacy, even without namesake survivors, will be felt throughout all time.

Those fans so eager to see the "pages turned" are going to get their wish. It's probably as good a time as any for fans to begin to expect the unexpected with the Star Wars line from here on out, as I'm sure LFL/Disney will feel both compelled and emboldened, without any major immediate continuity concerns, to go anywhere they wish with the story.

If you're a fan of Star Trek, or any ongoing sci-fi series, you have a sense of what to expect: various stories which may or may not compare well with the original themes, characters, settings, and plot lines. There will be great runs, I'm sure, like Star Trek: The Next Generation, and any other variable quality content that might at any point excite or bore, please or perturb the fanbase.

If talented writers continue to be involved, and if great care is taken in extending Star Wars, there is near infinite extensibility in this storyline. They can go deep into the past, far into the future, and show us plenty of new things.

It will be interesting to see how well integrated these stories can exist within the greater Star Wars chronology.

Personally, with so much unexplored potential now at their disposal, I would consider any attempt to reboot Episodes 1-6 a complete waste of resources, time, and talent, not to mention fan attention and nostalgia. Remake them any number of times, any fans and critics will compare and debate endlessly as to their qualities.

In my mind, no one can replace Mark, Carrie, Harrison, and the other major characters. And the original trilogy is a cinematic gold standard not easily to be rematched or surpassed. Aside from more sophisticated CGI, which is certainly attainable today, it would range from challenging to impossible to recapture the synergy and chemistry of the original heroic trio of Luke, Leia, and Han.

So, I hope LFL/Disney will decide make the creative most of this amazing opportunity to take Star Wars in new directions while honoring the spirit, tone, and quality George Lucas wished this collective saga to have so it could be enjoyed by all ages and for generations to come.

Yes the skywalker saga will end at IX and that will be the end of that linage, it will be compelling to see Kylo Rens downfall and death in that movie. Hope they make it epic.

Who knows if Rey is a Skywalker, always in motion is the future.
it sound right Rey Skywalker it has a ring to it. But maybe Kylo is right and she is nothing.
    Lets where JJ takes it!
I love the sequel trilogy! i love that it is its own bold thing and that it shits on everything its fresh and new a rehash story would have sucked.

The story could end, but I have a feeling it will be satisfying in a way, that it could pick up another generation if they so wanted it in a distant future.

I would like to see the Skywalker story end. The things I'm most interested in is a large scale Sith vs Jedi conflict (either the Sith Wars of the past or a future version of Rey's new Jedi Order vs the new Sith) or a Clone Wars Anthology film set between episodes 2 & 3 (was never that interested in the animated series). Would also be interested in a Anthology set between episodes 3 & 4 or 6 & 7

Taken that Kennedy has specifically said that the main saga will always be about the Skywalkers, I don't think so.

Taken that Kennedy has specifically said that she will never remake the previous 6 movies, I also don't think so.

People need to take a grasp at the big picture and realize that future movies and trilogies can co-exist with the main saga. You don't "have to" end the Skywalkers just because you want to call future trilogies for Episodes. They can be something else; Parts, Chapters, etc. There are so many possibilities.

I just don't see them building up these characters only to kick them to the curb for future instalments. I think it would be a colossal task to make the complete collapse of First Order a reality within the space of one film, especially considering the fact that the Rebellion has only just been reborn. It would be a major asspull for them to be portrayed as a fully fledged fighting force as seen in the OT in my opinion.

I suspect that the ST will provide a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga, but also leave enough threads dangling for future cameos or solo movies featuring the new cast members. If they established a kind of Cold War setting between the First Order and a New Republic, then it would leave a ripe scenario for future tales to by told. This is just pure speculation on my behalf of course.

Disney will sell the franchise in 2050 for a zillion dollars and the entire canon including the 9 or 12 episodes will be rebranded “legends“ and Star Wars will be rebooted.(pwned)
