SPECULATION Is this Star Wars story going to end?

it really should do. before VI came out I would have thought it would have carried on. However passage of time, Carrie passing on, subsequent films it needs to. Star Wars as concept will live on without a shadow of a doubt but I fear its going to end up like the Marvel franchise which to me personally is sad.

 

Yes. It should. I think it will. Let's see something different. The Origins of the Jedi. The Rise of the Sith. The Dawn of the Republic. Honestly this where I hope RJ's new trilogy goes.

I'd suggest a TV show about Luke's early attempt at creating a Jedi Order, the Search for the original Temple with Lor San Tekka, and Snoke's corruption of Ben Solo.

 

No, just a shift in focus to the new generation of characters and beyond. Of course I never considered it to be the Skywalker Saga but the Star Wars Saga that is following this particular continuity and space opera style so I feel no need for any particular end point because galaxies go on for billions of years.

 

Maybe we'll get Star Wars romcoms, half hour comedies set in GFFA.

I asked before but no one really answered, but what is Star Wars for you? If we have something like Crazy ex Jedi (Crazy Ex Girlfriend)....or the New Sith (New Girl ) Is it even Star Wars?

 

It probably won't for business reasons and given the need to re-use stories.

 

It will be the end of the Skywalker saga as announced, despite that TLJ was already more or less the end of this.

 

My guess this trilogy ends and they pick back up in a few years. In the meantime Lucasfilm will work on establishing new series.

For me ,personally, Star Wars ends (cronologically) with Skywalkers.

Anakin was created by the Force itself at the historic point of fulfilment of time , and should have bring balance, trough his bloodline.

Films about Star Wars ends ( I repeat for me) if Skywalkers end.

Restrospective films, as well as developing stories from the galaxy's past are ok, but, in my personal case Skywalker-free films, if cronologically placed after eventual Chosen one bloodline end, will not see me in cinema nor will see my fan support.

That's just me.

 

I see this going one of two ways.

1) We get the happy ending ala ROTJ. Ren dies, the forces of light rebound for total victory, something big blows up, blady blady blah. If they go this route, the Episodic Saga should come to an end. The Evil Skywalkers have been Vanquished from the Galaxy so that good in the form of Randoms can rule forever. And after their bloviations in 8, this would a) likely be welcomed by the same fans that thought making Rey a Random was a good idea, and b) feel like a cheat. They spent all of 8 proclaiming subverting expectations and throwing out the old, only to fall back on Old Faithful to conclude 9? Regardless, its the most likely scenario at this point.

2) Kylo Ren wins. Rey ends up leaving after being brutally betrayed(by a student?)... elsewhere. Unknown Regions, Outer Rim, Disneyland, McDonalds... doesn't matter. Rey and Friends go into some form of exile for a good long while. A live-action TV Series is set during Ren's reign. A few years(IRL) pass, and then you have 10-12 to close the series, where she finally defeats Ren and the Evil Skywalkers are Vanquished from the Galaxy to end the Saga(or at least the numbering).

 

So Ren respectively Ben needs to die to end the Skywalker saga, right? Personally I don't mind Kylo or Ben dying because it would make the whole story very tragic and I like that. But he doesn't need to die to end the Skywalker saga. The "evil" Skywalkers can vanish without them dying out. Kylo/Ben can end/break the Skywalkers' curse and still live on, happily and in peace.

 

The people making it certainly made enough noise about him being the only Skywalker needed. If that's the case, then the Skywalker Saga ends when he does. Ergo, if you're looking to make 10-12, he needs to win. Any attempt to end the trilogy with the last of the Skywalkers dying, and then having 10-12, would be silly. You misunderstand the Episodic 'Skywalker' Saga if you think that. If they end Ren, either he has to have had a kid, or they need to end the numbering.

What would be the point of continuing the numbering? At that point, you can simply make whatever you come up with as new IP, same as any of the other new trilogies.

 

he doesn't need to "win". he just needs to live.
and he can do that in the Light.

 

Maybe Ben survives and then they stop making episodic movies. Just Look at Rian's and the GOT makers' trilogies. They won't be called Episode X etc.

 

I think you are correct, but i would argue that this should have happened after ROTJ. The original characters stories were complete. They should have started the new era of SW films with totally new characters and not have called it Episode VII. It should have been it’s own thing.

 

Hooefully the Sith don't back after IX. Darth Bane and the Skywalkers should have a lasting legacy and a return to the Old Republic status quo would make everything meaningless.
