The real answer is that after months of editing and continuity checking to whittle 4+ hours of footage and several story threads into 2 hours and a few story threads they made a mistake.

I wan't to hear why they didn't feel the lightsaber/skywalker history and Kylo's origin stories didn't work. Don't get me wrong, this is up there with my favourite SW films but having read the MSW/MF shot lists amd seen the film 10+ times it's obvious there was a lot of stuff cut out and some context was missing behind a lot of secenes and conversations. I wish they'd have just had a 3 hour film or something!

This film had to do more than any other SW film as it has to start up again after a conclusive ending AND introduce 4 new leads, why couldn't they have allowed a longer running time to fit everything in? Why does a film need to feel 'too short'?

I love the film but the 'a good question, for another time' parts annoy me. Just feels like they took the easy way out for the sake of something as arbitary as a run time. If the film is great you don't notice how much RL time is passing!

Leia was strong with the force also. She would have felt Rey if they were related, specially when Kylo and Rey were fighting. Rey also had Skywalker visions rather than Force visions. Why did Luke not have Force back visions when he picked up the lightsaber and Rey did? Is Rey already more powerful than Luke was, or was it because Luke already taught her skills she had suppressed?

Rey DID have a sky walker vision on Bespin... Luke ever touched the saber from that I remember .

Would Leia have "felt" that Rey was related, just because she's strong in the Force? In the OT she and Vader never knew they were related even while they were interacting. We know the Force allows a "spiritual connection" sometimes through family relations, but does it always? I don't think we know enough about the Force to be able to predict how FS people are able to use it every time.

"Women Always Figure Out The Truth. Always."

    Han Solo

That counts for Force sensitive woman I think even more.

It means women always figure out, have their "sixth sense". Now imagine a Force sensitive woman with a "six sense" and you get someone you surely dont dont want to be your wife, or at least not near you every day....

    Ask Han.

Now serriously: women can be fearsome Force sensitives, surely ahead of men is some ways.

    Ask Kylo Ren.

Han's been married for 30 years. I think that has more to do with his statement than the Force. ;)

I think it was just a rumor about the 4-hours of footage since I think I remember JJ Abrams saying something about how the movie was always intended to be around 2 ish hours of whatever it reall y was even after the first pass of the edit .

THANK YOU! I thought the same thing. It's like HBO telling all year long: "Jon Snow is dead and more than dead." I mean, why to bring this up now? It sounds sort of fishy.

I don't care Leia didn't pay any attention to chewy. She had more important things on her mind and so did chewie. Star Wars fans just like to nitpick the blast out of their movies.

I can't find the sources but I'm sure I read that Bob Iger wanted the film to feel 'too short' and to have the audience walking out going 'was that it' to combat the modern blockbuster trait of feeling too long in his words and I'm certain that I read from JJ himself that 4 hours of footage was filmed. I know they never intended it to be a 4 hour film but he said that was how much footage was shot. I know a lot of it will be unusable so that's why I suggested a 3 hour run time. There is no reason whatsoever that this film had to have roughly the same runtime as the other SW films because this project was completely different to those in how much they actually had to do with this film.

TFA felt like just over an hour for me, I never checked my watch once as I was enjoying it so damned much. Everyone I've spoken to felt the same and the general concesus on the internet is that this was a highly entertaining wicked film. They could have easily snuck in another 30 mins at least to flesh the main story more

To be honest, I am disappointed to JJ Abrams as a directer as well. I already have though he is a bad storywriter, but I have considered him as a good directer. If he intended to make Chewie to focus on Finn rather than share emotion with Leia...well, Abrams totally failed because in the real movie Chewie just slowly passed Leia away rather than running for Finn. I do not think him as a good director anymore because his intention totally failed.

I got goose bumps watching that scene, I was hoping she would have revealed something about knowing Rey's parents but hesitant to tell her at first, I'm definitely was glad ''I am your mother'' didn't come out, glad that didn't happen.
