    I've just finished Life Debt - what and ending!

    I now find myself completely and utterly obsessed with Jakku and what the hell is going on there? For Palpatine to be so interested in it, must mean it's massively important.

    I had a few ideas, some of which have more than likely been discussed before.

    • Snoke is buried here
    • Could it be a secret weapon that helped in the creation of Starkiller Base?
    • A Sith temple
    • As a 'Snoke is Plagueis' fan - could it have something to do with Plagueis?
    I'm so intrigued and it's driving me mad so I'd love to know everyone else's opinion. I can't help think there's some connection with Rey as well. Why abandon Rey on a planet which Palpatine had such a massive interest in?

    Will the secrets of Jakku be revealed in Episode VIII or will we just have to wait for Empires End?

    I hope so, it was Rey's temporary home, it had a interesting first outing in TFA so no doubt she'll return to it.

    There are a lot of "coincidences" in the new canon stories.

    • Something was buried there a thousand years ago;
    • There was a battle on Takodana a thousand years ago;
    • The Sith were thought to be extinct for a thousand years;
    • Lor San Tekka and his fellows of the church of the force were on Jakku
    • Rey was left on Jakku

    we also happen to now have a character that's been around for a thousand years or more... in maz.

    i suspect that she has one hell of a story to tell.

    ..............ici les convergions! Not to mention the holy figures sitting on top of pillars like Syrian Stylites. Rey's survival guide is a must read for you. It may start of a bit childish, but it is full of hidden hints about the significance of Jakku.

    Interesting thoughts! I just saw a video this morning about the original opening of TFA, which would have apparently seen Luke's disembodied hand w/ lightsaber falling to Jakku, at which point the lightsaber was picked up (probably by Maz). It definitely seems like something's up with the planet, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's revisited at some point (probably in the third film). I just really hope we don't get a Plutt/Hutt opening scene "rhyming" with ROTJ... I don't know if I'm in the minority, but I just don't think we need any closure with Plutt. Plus, I don't want to have to deal with people having more ammo for claiming that the sequel trilogy is "unoriginal".

    Hahaha, well played! :p

    I have not read Life Debt and really don't have the time to. Is there a good synopsis of it somewhere that will give me what I need to know about Jakku and other things that happen in the book?

    Because it was the site of one of the last great battles in the Galactic Empire era.

    Don't forget good old Sarco Plank who has been known to plunder relics belonging to Force users. I really doubt he'd be so far away in Jakku just to catch some sun rays. Something important might have drawn Sarco there.

    The most interesting thing about Jakku for me was that many moons ago it was a fertile planet that at some point was turned to dust. When you then consider that along with this "significant Sith site" then it strikes me that the Sith/Dark Side is what destroyed the planet.

    In my opinion, this planet was once home to a Force tree which the masters of the Dark Side abused and used to drain the planet of the living Force to empower themselves. Once the Sith were destroyed, the Jedi took the trees and planted them in their own temples. However, Palpatine of course later destroys the Jedi and perhaps planted a Force tree back on Jakku that he planned to use to make himself "immortal" or even more powerful.

    I believe Snoke has access to this ancient Force power of draining and used the tree (which corrupted him).

    perhaps it's just me, but i think that whatever happened on Jakku... is big screen worthy.

    seems to be such a huge story there.

    I particularly like the idea of Snoke himself being buried there.
    I'm not saying he is Plagueis nor that he was resurrected. Maybe he was "sleeping" there.

    In terms of timeline it kinda works: whatever was buried there was still buried during Palpatine's time, which supports the lack of Snoke on all previous movies.
    It also supports the idea that he might be "very old" and even "around during the events of the OT" (around, just not active).
    Maybe someone (Gallius Rex?) awoken him at some point in time after the fall of the Empire and that's when he left Jakku and got involved in the First Order.

    Heck, maybe his awakening is even somehow connected to the events of Rey being left there.

    Whatever the story is, it has to be easily explainable in a movie. A lot of backstory, like Palps burying Snoke only for him to be resurrected by Gallius, etc., just seems too complicated for them to explain within the context of a movie. The vast majority of people will not have read the books, thus will only know what is in the movies.

    My understanding is that palps buries something there as it was once significant. He puts something there again.

    A Force tree in my opinion. That works with the timeline, explains what happened to Jakku in the past (and why it still retains a strong force predence), why Luke is off on missions getting Force trees back from the empire and perhaps why there is one on ahch to where Luke is now.

    I think the trees offer a means of connecting to the localised force power in an environment and for Sith the potential extraction of that power through the old power of force draining - as mentioned by Tashu in aftermath.

    I would like to know if Jakku's sand is less coarse and irritating than Tatooine sand. Does it also "get everywhere?"

    I thought the immediate significance of Jakku is an underground Imperial research facility under Carbon Ridge.

    Could smoke be a failed experiment by plague is to keep people from dying which led to the creation of Anakin Skywalker, which is why Snoke wants Ben so badly to study them and ultimately use his genes to become fully "normal" again which is one of the reasons for the base on Jammu?
