For fans interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of Lucasfilm, some good news seems to be headed your way, as longtime Lucasfilm contributor Lawrence Kasdan (whose writing credits include The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, and Solo) will be directing a six-episode documentary about George Lucas and Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), according to composer James Newton Howard.

Speaking on Score: The Podcast (at about 1:06:52 into the show, hat tip to r/StarWarsLeaks), Howard has revealed that he's finished scoring a multi-part documentary series about the behind-the-scenes history of Lucasfilm, its founder, and the visual effects company that revolutionized Hollywood:

Howard also implied that he may be involved with Disney Plus's sequel to Lucasfilm's fantasy adventure Willow, which is being overseen by Lawrence's son Jon Kasdan.

Several documentaries have been made about the development process on Lucasfilm's Star Wars movies and their other productions, with some, like Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy, made available for Disney Plus. However, that film was made in 2004 and is only focused on the original trilogy and little else about Lucasfilm's storied history, featuring comprehensive coverage of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back but spending less time on Return of the Jedi. It's possible, then, that this project may end up becoming more comprehensive.

The untitled George Lucas/ILM documentary does not have a release date, nor a means of distribution confirmed. It hasn't even been confirmed if Disney or Lucasfilm are officially involved with this. With that in mind, it is highly likely that this will end up on Disney Plus, given the emphasis on behind-the-scenes content for the streaming service.

Hat tip to TalkingBay94 as we first caught wind of this from his tweet about seeing it on Reddit.
