We now know the story behind that city-like planet we've been seeing for a while now, that it is a sort of Mecca/Jerusalem for the GFFA, very connected to the Jedi and the spirituality of SW.

We haven't seen anything quite like this in any of the previous SW media, TCW or Rebels included, and I find that it adds an interesting wrinkle to how the Jedi are seen by the populace at this time, like what would a guy like Han Solo think of this planet?

What is the Empire's plan for this planet? It clearly represents a threat to their new order, and almost certainly needs to be obliterated to make way for the evils the Empire will unleash on the GFFA. Will that happen in this episode?

What are everyone's thoughts on this new planet?

I don't know what to think of Jedha, but it certainly interests me. Maybe the power source for the death star's laser is there?

By the way, I'm pretty sure the beach planet is Scarif, Jedha is the city looking planet that was in the trailer

Ah, you are probably right. I went out of town and am trying to get caught up on all the details that have come out. I will edit accordingly.

I think we are good on new planets that start with J for awhile. The city looks cool though kind of mos eisley-ish a bit.

Then it must be like Ilum. I wonder what Jedha's history is with the Jedi Order, how they regarded it. As in, clearly they probably took students to Ilum to find their saber crystals because it was more challenging, but did they keep watch over Jedha?

Can we assume that the Superlaser on the Death Star is powered by a giant lightsaber crystal like in those unfinished Clone Wars episodes? And that the Empire wants Jedha for that reason?

You say that like it's something we already knew. Was there a source that said it wasn't just Ilum that had the crystals?

Lothal in Rebels had them, Ezra got it from there. The wookipedia article mentioned the Ultimate Star Wars book.

after Donnie Yen's interview i'm thinking that Jedha is important in that it has kyber crystals.

yes, Ilum and Lothal also have these crystals, but maybe there's a particularly large lode on Jedha, or the planet's core is actually made of one giant crystal.

    dunno, just spit balling here!

Can't wait to see this planet. I wonder if the Jedi get their name from it.

Jedha is where they are getting the crystals for the Death Star. Just a hunch.

Yeah because Illum has all these tricks to get the crystals and Jedah does not .

So the planet will be destroyed to harvest the crystal core .
    --- Double Post Merged, Jul 26, 2016 ---
It seems a bit obvious that they would have .

Maybe "Jedha" means "Land of The Force" and "Jedi" means "follower of The Force". "Jed" = The Force, "ha" = land, "i" = follower.

Same. Plus Disney can basically make whatever new info they want since they're in charge of the canon now.

This time, they can actually tie the lore to later events instead of having 18,000 years pass in between the Jedi disowning the dark side and the birth of the Sith. We also have a chance to see the name "Sith" come from somewhere other than the Sith species.
