Well, it turns out Ilum is located in the Unknown Regions. So even if the Sith knew of its location, there are still more financially effective kyber crystal planets to mine instead e.g. possibly Jedha.

In Legends, they had been around 25,000 years. Canon hasn't said how old they are.

If we change "land" slightly to "location", then you know what real estate agents say, hahaha!

That was the Darth Bane reign, we don't know exactly what was before that.

Lucasfilm knows how the word Jedi was created, it is a film genre that descibes a time period long ago, maybe Jeddah represents in the story the old times and ways of the Jedi spiritualism.
Lucasfilm is in charge, I know not one Disney employee working in the Lucasfilm Story Group atm.

I wonder why old Palp is not shutting the whole planet down altogether. He must be hopping mad to have a spiritual place catering to the Jedi and the light side, which memory he likes to see extinct, to be around any longer and have pilgrims and warrior monks on the loose in his Sith empire.
    (emperor)

Edit: Jedha would make up for a good target to test the firepower of the ultimate weapon in the universe me thinks.

I can't wait to see the physicality's (film location/sets) of Jedha on the screen, I really love the look of Jedha so far. I truly believe that Rogue One will expand our SW Universe.

Well, one thing is that Tarkin says in ANH that Alderaan was the test for the Death Star.

Second, your first point is exactly right. Does Jedha have a Senate seat? Is it even a planet that falls under the Empire? Maybe it is in Hutt space, or a neutral area that the Empire annexes.

How do you have a planet that is full of Force-faithful pilgrims in the same Universe as the guys like Han Solo and that Imperial Officer that doubt the Jedi existed?

    True.

"For over a thousand of generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the Dark times... before the Empire."

Athiests and Mecca exist in the same universe.

Is it just me or does these Jedha characters look like Royal Guards?[IMG]

That's a fine point. Keep in mind though that in the GFFA there is proof that Jedi existed, which doesn't have a real world corollary.

fun fact: Jeddah is in the mecca region.
I think yes but that could just be a visual reference, the Royal guard armor was constructed like mandalorian armor in legends.

I think that the resemblence either means they're affiliated with Sheev or they inspired the Royal Guards' armor.

    All in all – intriguing!

Jedha seems to become quite the interesting place. Crashed X-Wings, captured rebel pilots, imperial garrisons incl. new tanks & troopers patrolling the streets, the ambush by Cassian & Jyn. K-2SO as reluctant luggage bearer.

And on the street scenes, imperial officers seem to mingle with the street folk in an casual walk-by atmosphere with force pilgrims anywhere.

This really will expand the galaxy.

I was going to point that out! Interestingly the next tallest building in the world is being built in Jeddah, SA.

I'm 100% with you on this one. As soon as I saw the trailer and pictures I can see and feel that Jedha is Star Wars.

For whatever reason, I just get a familiar feeling as with Indy I, the Egypt scenario. The heroes visiting this desert country and city, full of street markets, ancient lore and beliefs, while Nazi henchmen are patrolling the streets for them. Well, at least Sallah won’t show up or an ape with poised dates. ;)

I can picture the Imperials being amused by the pilgrims and their hokey religions as they file along in the streets. The political atmosphere of Jedha must be one of an occupied territory, with civil unrest simmering under the surface.

Any chance they will directly reference the Church of the Force, or that Lor San Tekka might breeze into frame?
