I agree. On the whole, I'm really curious about the long-lasting effects on SW Canon that these anthology films are going to have. When I first heard about them, I had subconsciously kind of written them off as "Star Wars popcorn flicks" - fun while you watch them, a nice appetizer for the next Episode film, but nothing major. But the more I hear about Rogue One, the more I think that's incorrect.

I’m getting more and more the impression that Jedha will get into trouble at some point.

    Isn’t it beautiful? :)

This planet is on the way to become one of my favorite. Hey, please don’t let them destroy it - It has to be around way longer!

I really hope so. Kyber crystals are so rare – but if the Empire has gotten what it wants, who knows… to much dangerous folk wandering the streets down there.

I am quite optimistic, there is this line in ANH.

I just realized that it is the walled city on Jedha with that high tower building that sits on top of the huge plateau, shadowed by that ISD.

Those sea-turtle like imperial shuttles with the 4 flipping wings are getting quite abundant throughout the teaser.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The more you explain things that don't need to be explained, the smaller and less interesting the universe becomes. Star Wars is best when there is mystery and wonder. Science and Magic, it becomes less magical the more you delve into it.

    Masada

I get 2 vibes from the Jedha. From the trailer and some of the leaked characteristics make me think either of Granada from the reconquista or moreso now Masada. The Masada angle would be an interesting if it does play out in that it was an area that initially resisted the Romans and became one of the havens for the Jewish resistance. It was of course surrounded and wiped out by the Romans, well I think the story was all the occupants of the mountain top fortress killed themselves before the final Roman assault. But Masada came to have spiritual and cultural significance as a focal point of Jewish resistance and fight for survival as a state much later.

So does anyone else get the feeling Jedha won't survive this film?

We see the U-Wing transport escaping a crumbling planet in the new trailer, and that debris looks very much like the rocks surrounding the town on Jedha.

I believe Jedah will get demolished, not quite Alderaan level but close. It could still be partially intact but made completely uninhabitable by the DS test firing not going as hoped.

Maybe it ends up looking like this planet from The Clone Wars, where The Citadel was located?

I see where your coming from, but consider that the planet we see here is geonosis. If memory serves, the Death Star was constructed at geonosis. If that is Jedah, then are we seeing the Death Star above three planets in R1? Geonosis, Scarif AND Jedah? In one movie? When it took the last 20 min of ANH to clear a moon for a shot at Yavin?

This makes me think "why is it elevatated"? It looks FANTASTIC!!! But why? Are there natural predators that warrant such construction? I don't buy the Mecca/holyness of the city cuz it doesn't look like monks live there. Also, do we know that the city/planet in called Jedah? Do they share the same name? Idk...

The TV show Rebels recently had the crew visit Geonosis and they saw a dead world, and surmised that something huge had been constructed in orbit but was then moved. I don't remember the specific episode.

There is the issue of Chekhov's gun. Not Chekov from Star Trek, but the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov who said...

"Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there."

If you're going to have the Death Star in the film, then you *have* to fire the superlaser.

I’m quite confident that in the scenes with the DS from the outside and also from the viewport, we see Jedha, not Geonosis. It can be pinpointed at the eclipse: Undernet on the ground, there’s clearly the big city from Jedha with the large tower building, resting on that rocky plateau.

    eclipse_over_Jedha.jpg
I don’t think that we will encounter Geonosis in this one, as this would confuse the already none die-hard fan viewers even more. But it would link the PT quite nicely.

What if that's the only city on Jedha?

It's a desolate place for a holy site.
