Meh, we see Vader at the end of Episode VI as a ghost. A shrine doesn't seem logical to become one or else Yoda and Obi would have needed them too.

Well, via TCW Yoda did actually need to visit these types of places in preparation and Obi-Wan received this knowledge by proxy. In fact for all we know Obi-Wan may have done this, as Yoda advises him to begin his training towards this goal at the end of ROTS. Though I doubt he would have left Luke on Tatooine unguarded.

Ooops, sorry bro ... I need to be more careful. Spoiling is a quick path to the dark side.

Bet good money that Yoda has a dialogue with Luke at the end of the film.

I was just thinking how strange the "Chosen One" proohecy would have been if it mentioned balance for only 30 years. "He is the one who will bring three decades of balance to the Force." But I think the destruction of the Jedi Order was inevitable and part of Anakin's legacy was conceiving children that would insure it's survival (with some much needed change in it's view on love)

The force ghosts really should be part of the film. I think they would help Luke to not repeat the earlier mistakes that nearly destroyed the order.

They have to be careful how they do it. The only way it would make sense is if it is a scene which has Luke alone talking to them (perhaps while meditating). If the other characters in the movie are there, it would be awkward because nobody else knows who any of those characters are.

Can't tell you how awesome it is to see people reference my article and discuss it! Thanks everyone!

Let me throw this out there....

if the Jedi have the ability to keep their consciousness after death ....then I would assume that the Sith would have something that would be the opposite of that. Since they are the same thing "different sides of the same coin"...

Maybe the Sith become mindless dark energy? Tarkin chapter 9. Regarding the Jedi temple and the Sith Shrine underneath it. Might add up. Also the "Dark Side Cave" on Degobah in TCW episode "Voices" where physical smoke surrounds Yoda...food for thought.

AND...if I may add...if the Sith do have a power that's the opposite of the Jedi...I believe it's connected with what Darth Plagueis figured out somehow. Judging from the dialogue from ROTS. "Keeping the ones he cared about...from dying." and "to cheat death only one has achieved"...The Force Awakens indeed....

    Agreed!

This is just my opinion, but I hope that Plagueis comes back as an actual Munn (or whatever species they make him). I would feel like if he "cheated death" by becoming dark energy, that really isn't cheating death. I feel like there has to be more to it than that - kind of like the Horcruxes in Harry Potter.

    Let's look at the facts:

Episode IV: Obi Wan becomes a ghost, but only in voice. Talks to Luke in spirit towards the end.
Episode V: Obi Wan appears to Luke on Hoth, then on Dagobar.
Episode VI: Obi Wan appears to Luke on Dagobar, then on Endor with Anakin and Yoda.

Force Ghosts were an integral part of the OT, and I think warrant a brief role in the sequels. Now there may not be one until Episode 8, but given the limited options on the table - Obi-Wan, Anakin and Yoda, we can assume if there are any it will be one of them. Put it this way if there are no Force Ghosts in the ST, it will be very strange. We'll all be wondering what happened to them after Endor.

Out of all the Force Ghost characters, Yoda is the most likely to appear in TFA. He'd be the easiest to recreate. He probably cared the most about the future of the Force, and especially wanted Luke to pass on what he learned. You'd think he'd be there in spirit to guide him. So my belief is that Yoda will reveal himself to Luke, probably after something bad happens - not sure if it will be in a flashback or at the end, but will be a catalyst to fire up Luke to get his sh*t figured out.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I could see them using Yoda in TFA. Luke will definitely be force ghosting at some point in the new trilogy.

If the Jedi Temple is still standing (perhaps Palpatine made it into an anti-Jedi shrine, which now has fallen into disrepair if not ruin), Luke should take it back as a place to train his future Jedi.

I think Skellig Michael is a spectacular setting, but unless they build mockups, I don't see them using it long term, simply because it was so difficult just to get the necessary permissions and to transport production equipment/props and personnel to the island.

Well I think he had the right to do so considering it was originally built over a Sith shrine (emperor).

As would I. The Jedi temple on Coruscant was built on a Sith shrine that was potentially thousands of years old, and the Jedi hoped that THEIR temple would be a "cap on a volcano". all things being equal, THAT place (to me) seems like a place where users of the both (light and dark) sides of the Force might gravitate in search of....answers.

I've always thought that after the Jedi were purged and Palp remodeled the Jedi temple, then was killed that that place wasn't just going to turn into office space. It seemed to me that it should've/would've become a quiet and discreet place of a "pilgrimage" of sorts, and it would just be left to potentially rot or become another temple of sorts....IDK, maybe it's just me looking back at our own history.

As far as the ghosts, remember that Luke has been a lone Jedi for the last 30 YEARS....someone was liable to have spoken to him from the other side. There is another "Ghosts" thread here and there are those that say "It makes no damned sense that (perhaps) Qui-gon would speak to Luke in TFA", but remember....there are 30 years that we haven't seen. Force ghosts...yes.

Considering what a major plot point the Force Ghosts have been in virtually all on-screen canon, to me at least ... it would be really strange to not see them play some role.

What would be the point in retaining one's conciousness while becoming one with the Force, if there was no intention in interacting with the physical world? With the near - extinction of the Jedi Order ... this ability took on even extra importance.

I've read all the adult novels so far, I do believe Sith shrines will play a role in TFA whether its in a scene or just mentioned.
