    ?????????????????????????????????????

I know BvS was bad but Justice League hasn't even come out yet. If you want to base your argument in better known territory he's also credited for Argo.

Gotta say reading this news brought a big smile to my face

JJ brings a sprinkle of star dust to proceedings that makes following the whole circus more fun.

Also, I wonder what this will mean for Jack Throne who was recently brought into replace Trevorrow with the writing. Will he also be replaced by JJ & Chris Terrio?

You just know it is going to be magic, and also much more than the last time, will involve a lot of Spielberg :)

    Yikes...terrible news.

the hype around the return of Star Wars really stopped people from thinking on their own. TFA was a mess...especially the second half.

This guy isn't an artist. He is a producer, a brand manager. And he is good at that stuff, no doubt.

But his writing and directing? He is completely unoriginal.

This is really disappointing. It is pretty obvious KK has been completely spooked into playing everything 100% safe. Not good.

KK asked Rian, but he turned it down. Obviously the poor man was tired, but J.J was better than another CT issue. They can't afford to keep taking chances.

I'm happy with the news. JJ (and Kasdan) created a lot of these characters, so it'll be nice that he gets to close their stories in the last film. And while I realize the Force Awakens was a bit of a re-hash, I still feel it had individual, distinctive characteristics as a film. If the story is good, I'm sure JJ will execute it well.

Love it. I think it's fitting that JJ be the one to open these "mystery boxes" that he'll have tortured us with 3.5 years by that point.

And the writer I'm sure will be fine. Argo won an Oscar, and honestly, the biggest problem with BvS was its editing and its director, not its writing.

Originality and explanation just took a hit. Mystery boxing elements for Episode X, XI, and XII are possible.

The writer from Argo and more importantly Batman vs. Superman is also onboard. That was awful as a piece of character and plot writing. I gave that movie a 3 out of 10.

    Not very pleased.

At least Rey was ok with the most focus minus the whole not telling the audience enough about the character like should have been done in VII.

I liked the extended version of BvS. I never saw the theatrical release though. Argo was great. And I've loved Fringe since day 1.

It's a great choice directing wise. But I'm not really pleased with him (re-)writing the script.

I'm actually more happy about this than I thought I would. It is a safe choice in the positive meaning of that word. I'm bummed Rian won't do this, but apparently it was too difficult to make it happen right after TLJ.

Even though I love TFA, I really dislike how much rehashing there was, but I'm sure they're not going to let that happen again. As for Chris Terrio, there are two ways of looking at it... On one hand there's Argo. But then he's got a bunch of weak DCEU stuff on his resume...

One thing I'm slightly worried about is that if Rian took things in a different direction than J.J. imagined, he may want to backtrack in some aspects now. Let's hope he'll focus on the current state of the trilogy rather than his initial vision.

Oh man, that's right. I'm pumped for that.

    Awful choice.

Shows KK has no intention of exploring the vast possibilities of SW.

    SW is basically Transformers now.

They'll push the release date way back and we'll be lucky to know the title by 2019.

Much as I despise JJ Abrams as a director, I can why LF chose this guy. TFA did make plenty of money and in turn reinvigorated the franchise. Undeservingly so, in my view, but that is a fact. Also, he has a good working relationship which that matters people. I mean imagine going to work and you having to deal with a bad co-worker? It makes your job suck. Now, that said, the only thing that makes me less bitter about this is the screenwriter attached to this film: Chris Tierrio. I am a big fan of his work as Argo is a fantastic film. BVS, I argue was less his fault and more David Goyer. And as for those who say that Abrams will copy ROTJ: he won't, or more so LF won't allow it.

TFA had the luxury of nostalgia, ten years without a SWs film. That kind of effect will never happen again anytime soon. And let's look at this logically: assume that TLJ is a resounding success and managed to do something super unique and yet kept to the SWs flare and Abrams pulled the same stunt he did with TFA?

You know how bad of a strategy that would be? That would kill so much momentum going forward. Not just with the critics(ignoring the hardcore naysayers), but even people who liked the TFA. So yeah, I totally understand why people are nervous. And truth be told, if Abrams does do what he did for TFA for episode nine, I will be livid as that is my favorite SWs film.

So overall, this to me is a bittersweet message. On one hand, fine; pick an established director. But at the same time, given I do not like this director; I wanted another choice. Still, I get some joy in that Kasdan and Ardnt aren't back.

More like "Return of the Mystery Box". Haha!
Okay, this could be a good thing though. He can answer his own questions now. What I like about the choice of JJ is that he will probably use Snoke and the KOR more than Rian would've done it.
