JJ being in conversation with Lucas for TROS is interesting and hopeful. JJ is in my opinion a better first act director than final act director. Same with Peter Jackson. Give them a chance to set up a world and set some characters spinning and its all great but tying it all up satisfyingly and I find them both a bit convoluted and sappy.

Lucas on the other hand is not a good first actor kinda guy but if you look at his writing its all in the final act for him. Hes a crescendo kinda director. It all focuses into a single moment. The throne room, anakin & padmes marrige. Obi wan Vs Anakin, the deathstar/medal scene, the end scene of TESB, the I am a jedi like my father before me...that all is amazing cinema, the junk he surrounded those moments with was hokey but at the end it was always satisfying.

So if JJ asked for tips from Lucas thats a big plus.

I also think we now can see a common theme between Lucas’s sequel trilogy and the actual sequel trilogy- the young leads, in lucas’s version (apparently) the new leads would all be teenagers finding their way with the help of the old bunch.

Now in the ST we have rey, finn and kylo. They may be in their 20s & 30s but as characters they function like kids almost, playing dress up, finding their own way through the rubble of the previous movies and getting pointers from the last generation. Both Kylo Ren and Rey idolise and emulate skywalkers like kids in cosplay. They even squabble over who will have the skywalker saber one of them belives
It is vaders weapon and the other lukes. So for me i can see echoes of a lucas outline. I dont think he would have leant so much on nostaliga in the characters interactions with the GFFA but I do think this child like fight over their positions in the galaxy would always have factored.
Lukes exisle because of an evil pupil was written in, as was his re-awakening due to a young female pupil. Both those ideas were Lucas’s.

So this tug of war that Rey and Ren are playing was in Lucas’s outline in some way at least.

For me the only conclusion is that each of themselves are a side of Anakin Skywalker. The chosen one. They both are cosplaying that idea. Ren genetically has the claim to fame so far but I am fairly sure that either by cloning at the hands of the emperor, midiorian-conception or pure determination Rey will prove she is Anakin Skywalkers heir and the Anakin to Kylo’s vader.
This claim to fame: the title of supreme force user, is the struggle. Wether it will in-fact be them siding together to face the emperor/the galaxy as a way to heal Anakins divided soul/halfs or the two of them dueling it out until only the true skywalker heir remains...I don’t know. But based on the idea of going forward with these characters in the future (as KK hinted at) I don’t assume we will lose either of them for good at the end of this trilogy. I think the conclusion of the skywalker trilogy is simply fulfilling the PT prophecy and balancing the force and i think the head to head between the two of them was probably in lucas’s draft all along.

I see this duality too, but please let it be pure determination on Rey’s part, not cloning or medichlorians... I think all that pseudoscience could come across as a bit clumsy in a film... The simplest connections are always the better ones IMO.

I like your analysis here very much. I like this idea of the chosen one being a result of either Kylo and Rey uniting forces or fighting each other... KK also said that the ultimate message of TROS is hope, so I’d say that either Kylo transformes from Vader to Anakin or Kylo/Vader dies and Rey/Anakin lives.

I don’t buy or just don’t like the cloning idea. I suspect however there’s something else... and weird.
“If you live long enough you see the same eyes in different people” - “ thousands of generations live in you”.
Rey can be a kind of new “incarnation” of those thousand generations of dead Jedi, that merged with the force after death, if the force is also what creates life.

    That regardless her “biological” parents.

I agree about what you said about Ren. But I see on the other side of the spectrum is not only Rey.
The story and legacy of the Skywalker is also a story and a legacy of people fighting for democracy.
It’s the story of Padme and Leia and Luke as a rebel too.
The “heirs” will be those that choose that legacy of light... So Rey, Poe and Finn.
These are the heirs John Boyega alluded to. Imo.

However... that title has Skywalker not SkywalkerS.
And for many reasons, it makes perfect sense story wise that it is about Anakin.
    One way or another.

I think the theory does make sense... the first 2 trilogies were about Anakin, him becoming Darth Vader, his redemption and now the aftermath with his children and grand children, it would make a lot of sense if Anakin's story or history is a driving theme of the final episode... Kylo's assumptions about Darth Vader, all he thinks he knows, that has to be torn down for him to understand and be redeemed, if he's to be redeemed. It also will open Rey's eyes to understand what happened to the Skywalkers. Luke's words to Rey from the trailer may come at a point where she needs to be reassured, where the weight of the past has come crashing down on her and she feels unprepared or even alone in the galaxy. They can't in effect "let the past die" without really knowing what happened. Kylo says it, but by trying to be the new Vader, he's doing the opposite.

I couldn’t agree more. But then again the new Canon already did take a shine on bringing back cloning to the ST.

Cloning is a lot like time travel. When done right, it is fine. when done wrong, it's a sloppy lazy effort to explain something away without putting thought into it.

Me too more than any other release or for the first time ever really, I’m NERVOUS about this one. I was SO put off by TLJ (I don’t want to relitigate that movie... happy for those who enjoyed it, but it didn’t sit well with me) that for the first time I wasn’t really into SW for a while. I tried to inch back in with Resistance, but that show is pretty corny and Kaz is kind of annoying. I was in the SW wilderness for awhile.

I finally brought myself to watch Solo a couple months ago and LOVED it. It didn’t really expand the SW universe that much or delve into the meaning of the force, but it was just so stinking fun to watch. So fortunately I’m as optimistic and excited about SW as I’ve been for a while.

That being said, that makes me really nervous for this one. I don’t just want to love it, I feel like I NEED to love it!

I like TFA and trust JJ will do a good job but that horrific ending to Lost has me on edge!

I do think JJ will put out a more universally liked movie so I’m excited!

Dude, you know it. JJ is going all out on this one.

I have a copy of the script right here. He's making the most controversial Star Wars film that's ever existed. I don't want to give too much away but I'll let you in on a few of the highlights. You may want to stop reading now if you want to go into Episode 9- a Star Wars film made by JJ Abrams- totally fresh.

R2-D2, not getting enough screen time in the sequels, takes a second job at Foodora. A mix-up results in some dissatisfied customers (the cantina band from A New Hope) and he spits pizzas out at them for a good twenty minutes of the movie. Pretty sure this is in the third act.

C-3P0 only communicates in sign language in Episode 9.

Chewbacca, in a big reveal, speaks perfectly fluent Japanese.

The film is the first adult rated Star Wars film because of the introduction of the XXX-wing fighter. You don't want to know what it shoots.

There is a Death Star 4. They skipped over the 3rd Death star just like the third Traveling Wilburys album skipped over Volume 2. Apparently it's some sort of homage to Roy Orbison, who is also in the movie via CGI.

They decided to bring back Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru as Rey's guardians because everyone who dies in Star Wars is alive again now.

Force Ghost Luke also arm wrestles with that guy who had his arm cut off in Mos Eisley. It's the cut off arm too but JJ says you don't need an explanation why it's that arm or why the walrus guy is a Force Ghost, you should just go with it.

Luke then arm wrestles the Wampa. Wrong arm again but whatever.

Something blows up at the end, probably C-3P0.

The new characters all die in the first couple of minutes.

    Can't wait!

I just hope they took some of what Lucas said to heart (if those rumors are true). I will be honest, my expectations are not too high. However if they can wrap up all 9 movies into a nice positive ending I will be happy.

I agree. I don't totally know him..but people seem to praise him for his...mediocrity. These people also confuse others..and I am little tired of hearing from them. There should be a demand for greatness.

    J. J. Abrams: "My favorite thing about this one [Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker], is that it's about a group of friends together on this adventure - like you get to see them on this crazy, thrilling adventure together and not split up - so I'm really excited about that."

Aww! I was just reading that quote to @NinjaRen and he said- funny thing is that the first Rey says in the trailer "it's too dangerous, I have to go alone" :/ hopefully they won't let her go alone, splitting the group up means half the fun.
