FYI, those worrying about Ep. 9 being another rehash, to JJ's credit, when asked if had any regrets about 'The Force Awakens' he said he wished he could've made it more original and not have borrowed so much from ANH.

    On Terrio:

Argo is phenomenal. He packs A LOT into his scripts. And the problem with BVS was that the director and editor didn't wisely take all that and work into a functioning film. They just basically shot it line for line and made a 3 hour cluster. A smarter director and editor could have made that script work. And guess what? You know what JJ Abrams movies are usually incredibly good at? Editing and pacing. TFA slows a bit, but that is honestly all Star Wars movies. And the editing in TFA is fantastic.

With Terrio's thorough scripts and JJ + editing team, this will not be like BVS at all.

@StoneRiver Rian merely added to what J.J wrote, so I doubt anything like that regarding Snoke would have changed at all. If J.J made him new, Rian would simply continue what was already written.

As long as it's fun. I don't really care. Because Star Wars should always be fun.

Personally I think this is the smart move and a good one. If RJ was offered and declined (and I would have said No if I'm RJ), then KK would have been foolish to not at least speak to JJ.

As for him writing with the guy who did Argo and Superman v. Batman, I think that's a good choice as well. Argo was fantastic and the problems with SvB weren't because of the script.

Plus, with a tight window production begins in what, 4 months??? You need someone who won't take long to get up to speed and can take what was already written and fix the problems.

Now, in the future, they need to shy away from the directors like Lord/Miller, CT, etc... You can't go with these young guns who have had one or two hits and suddenly think they are the best thing since aerosol cheese.

Simply the best choice : even if i would have preferred to see each episode having a different director, it simply wasn't possible anymore, given the tight schedule.

While i love Rian Jonhonson already (just his Breaking Bad "The Fly" episode was enough to convince me he is a genius), i doubt he would have enough gas left in the tank so soon after completing the biggest project in his career. (heck he is not out of the woods yet)

So i salute the return of JJ : not only is he a talented director, but i will forever remember him as the guy who resurected Star Wars, brought the magic back and made it fun again.

If Rian was an option, it wouldn't make sense for them to pick him before knowing how people would respond to The Last Jedi. I personally think he's going to do a phenomenal job with it, but we just don't know yet, so that makes sense. Plus, Rian is still finishing up editing and stuff with this film. I doubt he wants to jump back into it immediately. I can't blame him.

I liked what JJ did with The Force Awakens. Yes, there were similarities between it and A New Hope, but I do think some of it was intentionally done to bridge the gap between the new and the old fans. It reintroduced classic characters and ideas, but it also introduced new and fresh ideas, too. I thought he did a good job, so I'm glad to have him back. I don't want another rehash of any of the movies, but I really don't think that'll be the case this time around. He's going to do a great job, I'm sure of it.

However, wasn't Episode IX supposed to start filming in January? If that's the case and he's re-writing the whole script, that only gives them four months to have everything ready, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the film get pushed back (hopefully only a few months, because I'll be disappointed if we don't get it in 2019).

To be honest, I'm more interested in what Chris Terrio would bring into the script, because Abrams' style is already known by all people who saw The Force Awakens. I know, he wrote Batman v. Superman, but this film had Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer attached to it and that is probably the primary reason behind BvS' poor quality. Now, the elephant in the room - is Epsiode IX going to be a soft remake of Return of the Jedi? I don't think so. In my opinion Episode VII was more of a mixture of all films from the OT than a straight remake of A New Hope and while reworking the script Abrams and Terrio would be stupid to turn it into something that is too reminescent of Episode VI, especially since the rehash argument is very known and often brought up, even by interviewers who speak with filmmakers behind the new SW films. All I can do is wish them good luck and hope that Epsiode IX is a strong finish to the Sequel Trilogy.

Depending on how TLJ ends, I don't see how they could do a soft ROTJ reboot. The stories just aren't heading in that direction

There will always be intentionally added similarities, but TFA was not ANH, and I seriously doubt TLJ is ESB, so I'm not worried about IX being ROTJ. It's a mix of old and new.

Man, a lots happened since I landed on Argus.. lol. Having a neutral view of Colin, I kinda feel nothing about his release. I'm just glad they didn't listen to that fan petition.
I do wonder if this says more about Star Trek than it does Star Wars.. Nu Trek 4 and Nine in 18 months? Not too thrilled about his choice of writer; BvS isn't a credit I'd like to have my name attached to.
Until I see the Ocho I can't honestly give an opinion on what I think JJ would do this film.

News flash; TFA is polarizing. That means, there are people who like it and dislike it. Trying to create an either or fallacy on those who disagree with the movie I am sorry is very intellectually dishonest. Does that mean that naysayers do not take it too far? Yes. Of course, they do. And those people should be ignored/ not approached. As any form of rational debate is fruitless.

But it is just as naive to sweep away any positives on this movie(much as I dislike TFA, it has its moments, like Kylo Ren) it is equally naive to dismiss any forms of legitimate criticism at this movie. Like its lazy plot. Because echo-chambers on both sides of the spectrum are awful. Because, the longer one hears their own voice, the more vulnerable they are at being inept to be challenged.

Its very hard to get exited, I like JJ he has done some great things and TFA wasn't bad but there was some seriously questionable decisions in it. Chris Terrio I like though and hopefully Ep. 9 will be a bit more original than TFA. I will be very cautious at least until we start to get some info about the movie. Hopefully TLJ ends in a good place for Ep.9 to take off and hopefully they don't have it take place immediately after TLJ ends. Oh and get Billy Dee Williams ASAP, there is going to be a hole where Carrie/Leia was and a character like Lando can help fill it.
