I'm interested to hear what George Lucas says about JJ directing 9, given his reaction to TFA.

I get ya, but didn't Rian already confirm they will not be touching Snoke's origin it TLJ? I expected to be enlightened regarding Snoke in IX. Now with JJ helming that episode I have a feeling it will be left blank. Or expanded in the subsidiary material. ;)

Lucas will probably complain about any SW movie that was not directed or produced by him specifically. Besides, Lucas hates all of us, die-hard star wars fans especially.

Well, some people certainly don't like open endedness, lacunae and mystery. But those 3 usually result in good literature! :p

To be honest , I wasnt really happy about this decision because RJ. TLJ isnt even out yet and my feelings about it are like ..that movie need to be the best movie in SW history.. its strange I know but I cant help myself.
    BUT
J.J started all. He was in the worst position for director and he did a great job with TFA. There are sooo many new fans, young fans. New generarion of fans and they love it ..there were few similarities with ANH but thats only way to present SW to our new generarion. Anyway ..IX is not first episode so I bealive JJ is going to show us his full power on directing.
    Cant wait !

I think TLJ will tell us a lot about episode IX, strangely enough. If it closely parallels the plot of ESB, it will be clear that LFL has mandated it from on high, and we can probably expect IX to follow suit. I for one don't think this will be the case, and I'm optimistic that JJ and Kasdan built in the parallels to ANH into TFA simply to cushion the impossibly difficult endeavor of re-starting the franchise without Lucas. With all of its nostalgic notes and cameos, R1 to me was a statement from LFL that they don't intend to just build stories just around pre-existing characters: they could easily have chosen to do Han Solo right after TFA.

But I've been an optimist before to my own detriment. I adore the Lord of the Rings films, and I when the Hobbit movies came out, I kept defending the dubious moves of making multiple - ultimately three films. And, even after the first one, I remained pretty damn hopeful. Disappointment ensued, but I don't regret the optimism: it's much more fun to look forward with excitement to something than to anguish about it...

Not overly convinced the trilogy will be anything but average, Disney likes to play safe as we know. JJ direction is always average/good, he is a bankable guy, but no SW films under him will ever be in pushing sci-fi, groundbraking or worthy of a special status. The Anthology films will be where directors will be given chances like RO, to try new things and push the Universe into areas it needs to go.

Well, what I mean by mess is all the open endedness. As that may be good and well to kick off a trilogy, RJ and KK have stated there is no "grand plan". There is no outline to follow or continuing arc, therefore, JJ had the freedom to leave whatever loose ends he wanted. Obviously, what Colin had in mind to tie them up, didn't satisfy the mouse, and now JJ has returned, hence my previous post.

The two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other in the context of that quote (or in any context).
It's not like I complain about TFA though, I think it worked as the beginning of a saga. It very certainly won't work for the closure though. I doubt JJ could even answer his own "mystery boxes" (aka.: write a vague script and hope for other people to fill the holes), let alone delivering a story smart and emotional enough to finish Luke's tale...

On this topic of JJ leaving things open ended..
LFL is still debating internally what to do beyond RotJJ and Obi-wan: keep a trilogy format or switch to an MCU format. An open ended RotJJ could serve as a springboard into that new format. Civil War was pretty open ended and that was the conclusion to Captain's "trilogy". Yeah, it did feel like Avengers 3, but it broke the stumbling block that 3rd act films have broke their hulls upon trying to mimic the course of Jedi.
I'd insert the quote from x-men apocalypse here but youtube appears to have misplaced this infamous movie quote.

JJ and Kasdan created open-ended stories. We don't really know how much JJ contributed to the script, i'd imagine quite a bit. However i'd also assume that if JJ had ideas then he bounced them off Kasdan.

As long as Terrio has a lot of input, JJ takes some of the criticism on-board and brings TFA-level directing. We are in for one hell of a movie.
