Hello once again Cantina! I just saw this tweet and I thought it would produce some interesting feedback. I personally have never seen any of her movies so I'm not familiar with her style. Feel free to share your thoughts below. :)

    Her projects:
    Selma
    I Will Follow
    Middle of Nowhere
    This Is the Life
    The Door
My mic sounds nice: The truth about women in hip hop
TV One Night Only: Live from the Essence music festival

I know many star wars fans would probably shoot her down right off the bat.
If a credible director like JJ Abrams is vouching for her, then that should give her all the more weight. On top of that since star wars is about story, acting, plot, then she may be a damm good choice. I'm open minded. Star wars needs female directors anyway IMO.[/ATTACH]

Star Wars needs more great directors, talent trumps gender and it goes both ways. Get the right person for the job based on skill and past performance not the most "social politically correct", otherwise the movie will suffer.

For me it has nothing to do with gender and race, but rather her filmography and she should bulk up her résumé with more si-FI type of deals .

I dont think JJ would say that for nothing. Theres obviously a quality she presents in her story telling that he thinks would make for a good SW movie. Like I said above i have never watched any of her work so I cant say for myself.

Me neither...story wise, yes...Im just not so sure about the execution for something like SW...JJ already has had proven experience with that waaayyy before SW, however.

Shes not a huge director...yet...but shes a contender to direct Black Panther and its weird because it almost feels like that all these predominantly black films are courting directors of color just because.

Ava Duvernay will most likely direct a Star Wars in the future. I can almost place money on this bet. JJ Abrams recommended her, Selma had great style, and let's not forget the biggest reason this is happening:
Disney is already bringing her into the studio. She is directing an ambitious big-budget adaption to one of the most popular sci-fi novels (and one of my favorites) of all times, A Wrinkle In Time.

    No problem.
This is all starting to come together. Kathleen Kennedy stated recently that she doesn't want to set up a female director for failure. She mentioned that most female directors aren't given ambitious projects with the level of special effects sophistication...
    Enter "A Wrinkle in Time,"
a special-effects heavy film that was originally bestowed to director Jennifer Lee (who directed "Frozen.") I am confident that Disney will be watching the results very carefully. IF Wrinkle in Time performs nicely at the box office and turns out as splendid as its literary counterpart, then they will transfer her to Lucasfilm.

Her projects are very character driven. I think she has a shot but I think that she would be more suited as a producer at first before a director considering how JJ handled TFA WITH her
    .

In JJ I trust, but not with this. I want to see her do a sci-fi flick first.

NOooo... haha Justin Lin did a good job on ST Beyond, so I think he might be on Kennedy's radar for a standalone. So Duvernay has to direct a sci-fi flick other then SW just for the experience.

He went from HORRROR though and onto Flash so I doubt it for the forseeable future.
