JJ on GMA This Morning

Wow that was revealing! XD

 

He did explain the "Who is Luke Skywalker" question more clearly though. Clearly, it's just about who Luke is to the new young characters.

 

Though he didn't reveal anything, he did assure me that he gets it. He gets what Star Wars is about. Hope, that you can become anything. In the OT Luke was an unassuming farm boy who wanted nothing more than to see the greater galaxy and leave his planet and by the will of the Force he was brought onto a great adventure. That spoke to me when I was a kid. When I watched the OT for the first time I felt good seeing the Rebels celebrate with the Ewoks. I hope I get that same feeling at the end of this ST. From all the stresses of being a young adult today I just want to be taken back to that feeling I had when I was a kid and from what JJ said I can tell that was his main focus.

Yes, he discussed Luke and what the original cast means to the ST and the new adventure.

 

I find that to be a bit of a relief. When JJ first said "Who is Luke Skywalker?" it was not very well-explained and led to a lot of speculation that Luke had become something other than who we know him to be. But now we know JJ's not asking whether we, the audience, know who Luke Skywalker is.

Now, I really do feel that while there are sure to be surprises in store, JJ will not mess with my favorite characters too much.
