It has been no secret Joel Edgerton has been completely on board with returning to Star Wars as Owen Lars if given the opportunity. Well, the idea has resurfaced now that the Kenobi series has been confirmed. MTV News' Josh Horowitz ran the idea by Edgerton in an interview recently, and the actor may have tipped his hand a bit.

Back in 2017, Edgerton was interviewed by Business Insider where he minced no words in expressing his desire to return as Uncle Owen, even painting a potential narrative for the character. From the 2017 interview:

Between his candid eagerness to return and as Horowitz puts it, his recent coy evasiveness, it's quite possible Edgerton has already been asked to return and now has to keep mum about it. Two years ago he was rallying off his story ideas, and now he is being a bit shy...NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) anyone?

I would be shocked if Joel Edgerton is not back as Owen Lars in the Kenobi streaming series, it just makes too much sense and can happen without it feeling like some sort of force-fed fan service. He is supposed to be there. We will keep you posted if more details on Edgerton's potential involvement surfaces. But in the meantime, just keep relishing in the fact that Ewan McGregor is coming back as Kenobi, because I still am.

Meh, I was never that fond of his performance as Uncle Owen. It was very bland. But perhaps time and a different director may help.

Will he call Obi-Wan a crazy old wizard?

Wonder what ever happened to Kitster?

@Rodney-2187 , I love your post partly because of what I imagine was the thought process...

"crazy old wizard... ("...so wizard Ani!") ... Kitster?"

If this isn't what happened, I don't want to know. :D

Sort of. Just thinking who else could be around on Tatooine. Jabba? I hope the focus is on new characters, but I wouldn’t mind a few cameos.

Judging from the dialogue in ANH I get the vibe that Lars and Obi-wan had a falling out at some point. I guess we'll see what went down but I assume that Obi-Wan and Beru hooked up behind Lars' back while he was out tending to the moisture vaporators, Beru got knocked up with Rey and left her to be raised by Jawas.

There's so much in those short scenes between Owen, Beru and Luke that it would be a missed opportunity not to involve the Lars in some capacity. I've said elsewhere I'd like Edgerton back - he's the right age, his profile is greater than at the time of the prequels and his acting talent is proven. One barrier I can think of may be money, but that's up to him and his agent.

In terms of story, there's good possibilities in the relationship between Obi-Wan and Owen - reluctant comrades, possibly a developing respect and friendship over time. As to what they could be involved with Tattoine has a lot going on with the Hutts, Mos Eisley, Mos Espa, Tusken Raiders, the growing influence of the Empire. No reason why they can't also go offworld, though Obi Wan would need to be pretty well disguised I'd have thought. Key to ANH is the fact that the Empire and Vader have no idea where Obi Wan and Luke are, so they need to avoid direct Imperial involvement in stories, unless Obi Wan is very subtle indeed about his use of the force to avoid exposing Luke to risk.
