John Boyega has previously stated that he'd be fine coming back to Star Wars if his co-stars Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac return, but it's come to light that he had also expanded his list of talent he'd like to work with again to The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker director J. J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Recently, a clip of John Boyega (interviewed by Jake Hamilton) from May 2020 has resurfaced, with the actor saying he's willing to discuss the possibility of returning to the galaxy far, far away after a prominent role in the sequel trilogy:

The timing on this statement is pretty interesting, given that a few months later he shared an interview explaining his grievances with feeling like his character was marginalized in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker after being the co-lead of The Force Awakens. But about two months after that, he turned around and talked about how he'd be open to returning in a Disney Plus series following a conversation that he had with Kathleen Kennedy about his concerns. He noted that would want to reunite with several of his co-stars, and was particularly interested in the idea of reworking Finn's planned story arc from Colin Trevorrow's unmade iteration of Star Wars Episode IX, which would have culminated in him lead an uprising of citizens and renegade Stormtroopers on the streets of First Order-occupied Coruscant. The lingering hints at Finn's future as a Jedi, which were absent from that script but present in the movie that was made, also appears to be a narrative thread ripe for exploration.

The door remains open for Finn to reappear, but nothing is certain at this time. John Boyega previously mentioned that he worried about playing a character too frequently out of fear that he'd get typecast into a specific type of role and not be able to test his range as an actor, indicating that a return as Finn isn't immediately on the cards. Nonetheless, he currently has his sights set on returning to a different role as he prepares to step back into the shoes of Moses in a sequel to Attack the Block, the movie that put him on the map as an actor in spite of disappointing box office results. He'll be producing that movie and collaborating with writer-director-producer Joe Cornish in a sequel that should hopefully find greater success. J. J. Abrams, in the meantime, seems he'd be harder to snag, due to his and Bad Robot's commitment to several key WarnerMedia productions; he's also noted that he feels like working on two Star Wars productions was enough.
