John Williams thinks that Rey's parents might be identified to us in Episode IX.

You go dude!! I hope that there's more to Rey's parents than two alcoholic losers, but I refuse to get my hopes up for now. However, if the spoilers after the first premier of Ep. 9 that get leaked all over the internet reveal that there's something more significant about Rey's parents then I will be back here to celebrate with you. Until then, keep up that fight!

 

I think she's a random girl as anti-climactic as that reveal was. I think people are fooling themselves thinking that'll change. Then again, if different I'll eat crow.

 

Regardless if she's a nobody or a Skywalker (or Kenobi ect...) there's going to be a portion of the fan base that will be disappointed again after EPIX. As of now, all these theories are head canon because there's enough for JJ to go on to go in any direction he wants. Any writer worth 2 cents can spin that whichever way and make it seem plausible.

As for JW, it's not impossible that Disney even asked him to make this comment. Even if the average fan enjoyed TLJ, for the average fan, there isn't much of a hook for EPIX. By having JW put Rey's parentage back into question won't turn any fans away and has the potential to draw more in. It's a win/win for Disney

 

JW has a huge crush on Rey, end of story nuff said...

 

Using TLJ as an example for thought out plot twists isn't really a good idea either. If anything IX has the potential to make the twists less meta (deliberately misleading fans) and more in tune with the actual story.

 

I really hoped so much for years that Rey is Luke's daughter, but I gave up hope. Rey is sadly a random. What a terrible waste.

 

McD, the ST isn't about ancient prophecies and bloodlines of destiny like the PT was.

I loved the PT, and really enjoyed the idea of bringing the Force into balance and seeing how Anakin pulled it off. But that story's been told. The ST is going a different way. If the OT was about heroism and the PT was about destiny, then the ST is about choices.

Kylo Ren would have inherited the Falcon, Vader's lightsaber, Chewbacca's companionship, Han's and Leia's final parental affection, and the ancient Jedi texts if the ST was about bloodlines. Instead Rey got all of those things. She didn't even try to get them, they just came to her. Kylo tried his hardest to get them and lost them all to Rey, a complete nobody. The lesson is that bloodlines don't count nearly as much as the choices each character makes.

 

My favourite theory pre TLJ was Rey Kenobi, my second was Rey Random. I am happy with the reveal that Rey is random (obviously not as happy as Rey Kenobi, but oh well). As a fan of Rey Random, i do not believe that Rey random = Reylo. I am not a fan of Reylo either (at least not a romantic version of Reylo, a mutual understanding i believe is the way to go, as seen in TLJ there was nothing romantic about their relationship, it was only growing to understand each other better).

 

I'm sure we will get Rey Random and this just leaves me with not caring for this character, especially how she was handled in TLJ. This movie made me reject her completely.

 

So Rey Skywalker would make you care, even if nothing else in her character changes? Come on, it's just a name. She can be a Skywalker by spirit. Names don't make people!

 

It is my oppinion and for me family is much more important. No problem if you disagree and prefer a random. For me Star Wars was always about family, that's why I came into this franchise and not for big explosions, spaceships or blaster duels.

 

And it's even more about family right now. => Becoming a family.
