Ok, I am a fan of John Williams. And I am a music composer.

He is soon to be 86 years old!

    86!

    Eighty-Six!

I just listened to the score he composed for The Last Jedi.

Rose's theme, is one of my favorite from this movie. Again... something old and new at the same time.... but moving... perfect!

What he has done for this movie is a Tour-de-force. Not only because he is still composing new Leitmotivs for the Saga, but scored a fantastic and touching score for The Last Jedi.

He has now composed scores and your favorite themes for 8 Star Wars movies. I lost the count but it's easily over 20 hours of music.

Since we're on a Star Wars forum, I am not even writing about his masterpieces for other movies, or Olympic events, or else.

This man is a musical genius, that is fortunately still alive.... hopefully to complete his own arc with the Star Wars Saga with Episode 9.

He is the soul of Star Wars and... without even looking at the movies, the special effects, the acting....good and bad... You can close your eyes and by listening to John Williams' soundtrack travel to a galaxy far far away.

In parallel to all these reviews, discussions.... rants.... praises...

John Williams is forging an oeuvre d'art, a masterpiece that will be studied and talked about... for generations to come. It's comparable to "Die Walkure" from Wagner,... it's something we see constructing in our era... piece by piece, theme by theme... but that we often oversee.

    Kudos to Master John Williams.
    The soul of Star Wars.
You did an incredible Tour-De-Force at your venerable age for The Last Jedi.
I pray with everything I can to hear what you have in store for the final chapter of this new trilogy and then the circle will be complete.

He's a great composer. I went to the Fan event for TLJ and the exclusive footage was a featurette of JW over the yrs and some TLJ recording video. He did say he hasn't decided if he is doing Ep IX, at that point. But, went on to say, that he hopes the experience doesn't end.

    Thank you for this thread!

I listen to From the Top on NPR, which showcases young classical music talent. It's amazing how many people came to classical music through the awesomeness that is John Williams. Though SW is most often cited, there's also Jurassic Park, ET, Harry Potter, etc.

In fact, Star Wars on their home page right now. Here's a cute clip of a little Darth Vader, Princess Leia and Yoda playing together (They're AMAZINGLY good and pretty funny, love the part where Leia accidentally plays the Star Trek theme):

When he's gone, I don't know who is going to inspire the next generation of young composers. My son plays in a Gamer Symphony Orchestra at his school so I suppose that's the next step- and I suspect in that medium SW will still live on as a force in music, no matter what.

What was the song when Luke walks out of the cave to face the FO?

On the soundtrack the track is called ‘The Spark’ and it’s one of the most thrilling JW Star Wars tracks in recent times, for me.

The track going from the Leia theme to Luke then walking out and the music building up in intensity raises the hairs on the back of my neck every single time.

Stunning music. The man is a genius.

I just listened the soundtrack on Spotify.
Man, this is one of the best I've heard since... well, probably Phantom Menace (For a Star Wars movie).
The Canto Bight track shows how genius Master Williams is.

I am still amazed by how much original and new stuff came out this time from a venerable old man.
He truly put his heart in this.

Like Dax said previously, not even watching one of the Star Wars movies, JW's music is something on its own.
Studying masterpieces from great composers is always looking back hundred years...
Again, I feel privileged being alive in the same era as a legend that is writing his masterpiece while I am breathing. A masterpiece that will be studied hundred years from now... not as the soundtrack of a movie, but as a Musical Suite that was composed for a medium... like Wagner and the operas.

    Another under rated masterpiece:

I know what I said, 'masterpiece' and it is.

Yoda's theme is equally as epic. Yoda and Sidious, they get overshadowed by other characters in the saga and their themes. But as characters they're both otherworldly and absolutely incredible in their own right, same goes for their themes. Yoda, master of the light side of the force, Sidious the dark side, John Williams is equally as masterful as both of those at his craft and like them both, doesn't seem to diminish at all with age.

How could I forgot this one.
    One of my favorite.

Is it me or we had a glimpse of the theme during the Millennium Falcon scene in Crait's crystal mines?

"The Fathiers" from the TLJ soundtrack is a great addition to the saga, it's classic SW music. Long live John Williams, the true heart of the GFFA!

    Agree with all of you.
I waited for the sound track almost as much as I waited for the movie.....

BUT I have one problem with TLJ's music: in every movie, there is ONE track that is the "principal", or most important, or most used in all other track s. Like the imperial march, across the stars, duel of the fates, rey's theme, etc......and usualy, it is the second track on the disc. In TLJ, I can't find a "principal" track.... A lot of parts of TFA were used, and a lot of new parts, but no track stands out as the "main theme of TLJ".... Do you agree? Or did I just miss it?

This might be in there too, but i only noticed the music from when the falcon is chased by tie-fighters in a new hope. I thought that was very cool.

I found his score in the PT amazing. Rather lacklustre and repetitive in episode 8. Same feeling for episode 7 with a few golden tracks

Lacklustre! Let's keep this thread as a celebration of his incredible work over all the films. Every score at the very least, is very classy and screams Star Wars. For that , I salute him.

It's not just star wars, but every film he has created a score for. Home Alone, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones...Etc, etc.
